To the Pigeon Fanciers of the World:
Welcome to the 2015 Ontario N.P.A. Grand National
The eyes and attention of the pigeon world will truly be on Ontario, California January 29-30-31. The Los
Angeles Pigeon Club and the National Pigeon Association will be hosting, what we feel will be, one of the
greatest nationals of all time. No expense has been spared in making this show something special. From
renting a $25,000 first class exhibition hall down to the tiniest detail. Look around this 77,000 square foot
building and you will see skirting, decorations, banners, volieres, flowers and plants, with an art display by
Lynn Watson that is second to none. These are just a few of thing that make this a show you won’t want to
miss.
The location of the show hall across the street from the Ontario International Airport and the close
proximity to restaurants, and the host hotels make this one of the most convenient shows of all time.
Gifts to the exhibitors include a patch commemorating the show and a full color poster/calendar
compliments of Kenny Davis’ Pomona Feed. Cash awards of $1,050 donated by the Los Angeles Pigeon Club
for the five top pigeons in the show offer financial rewards as well. Special pigeon sweat shirts, polo shirts and
t- shirts will be available. A spectacular white homer release by Luthor Nelson’s White Dove Release Co. will
officially kick off the show on Thursday. We are inviting T.V. and newspaper coverage of this event and
possibly a sports celebrity releasing Luthor’s birds.
We cannot guarantee sunshine in January but we can guarantee no snow and being warmer than 90% of
America that time of the year. We urge you to take advantage of the tourist sites within a couple hours driving
time of Ontario. Make this a winter vacation as well as a pigeon show.

We have heard from fanciers from twelve foreign countries planning on attending. It will be a gathering of
many of the famous pigeon enthusiasts of the world. Take this opportunity to meet them. Dick Hamer noted

pigeon photographer from Zuphten, Holland will photograph the winning birds. The Los Angeles Pigeon Club
has hosted seven national shows since 1942, and six of them have set exhibition records. Perhaps a new record
will be set but if not it will no doubt be the biggest show held in the U.S. since the 2011 San Diego National
that had 6,500 birds.
Entries absolutely close January 5th, 2015 – The officers of the Los Angeles Pigeon Club and the NPA
say:
“Don’t Miss Out On This Great Event!”

All questions, or any special arrangements, should be made with Chet Edmonds directly.
* Do not send the birds to his home address as it could take an extra day going through a second Post Office.
At this time the most economical way to ship birds to the show is via the U.S. Postal Service. The main post
office in Ontario is two blocks from the show hall. Birds shipped in will be picked up by Chet Edmunds
(951-750-2216) or other show personnel as soon as we are informed of their arrival. There may be some direct
delivery to the show hall by U.S. Postal employees as well. At the close of the show Saturday afternoon if the
U.S. Postal service does not come to the show room to process them birds will be taken to the post office by
our show personnel. Hopefully most of the birds will be back at their home loft by Monday afternoon.
UNITED/Continental AIR CARGO – Air cargo is a faster delivery than the U.S. Postal service but has these
draw backs. During the week days there are no shipping problems with many daily air cargo flights into
Ontario from around the country. Your birds and you will be shuttled from the airport to the Radisson or
Double Tree hotels if you are registered there at no charge. However, there is no air cargo service on Sunday
at Ontario if you choose to go home on that day. There is air cargo service from Los Angeles International
Airport by United/Continental on Sunday but you would need to arrange transportation for you and your birds
on your own or the host hotels can shuttle you to LAX for a fee. Travel distance is about one hour. Price for a
crate of under 50 pounds is quite reasonable at approximately $120 one way.
Call United/Continental Air Cargo at 800-575-3335 to make reservations (at least three days in advance).
Also check on crate requirements. Delta Airlines – Conflicting information on Delta accepting pigeons as
checked baggage exist. Some airline officials report checked baggage is o.k. at $200 a crate one way. Other
sources say only air cargo is available and rates are in excess of $200 per crate each way. Apparently it is
possible to ship birds on Delta but we suggest you contact a Delta representative at 800-736-3738 to get the
latest up to date information.
4
Alaska Airlines – Alaska accepts birds for Air Cargo but not as checked luggage. Flying into Ontario during
the week days via air cargo is no problem but there is no service for air cargo on Sunday. Service on Sunday
maybe available at L.A. International airport but we suggest you call 800-225-2752 to answer questions about
taking birds on Alaska. The hotels have a Sunday shuttle to LAX for a fee. Contact your hotel for fee
schedule. Alaska air cargo prices for a 50 pound crate runs between $170-$235 each way.
DAILY SCHEDULE:
Tuesday, January 27, Show Setup, 8:00am until?
Wednesday, January 28, 8:00am until noon finish show setup (Entered birds may be brought in and cooped
after 12 noon.)
Thursday, January 29, All entered birds must be cooped by 4:00pm. Judging may begin after 12 noon on
Thursday if all the birds in a breed are cooped. *Also, judging may begin after 12 noon on breed category,
color, marking and pattern classes that are filled. Breeds with large entries often elect to do this to maximize
time allotted to judge.
Friday, January 30, Judging of birds. Shaw hall closes at 5:30pm due to the NPA Banquet taking place.
Banquet site: Ontariio Convention Center Banquet Room. Tickets may be purchased with your entry blank.
Ticket Cost: $35.00 per person.
Saturday, January 31, Continuing of breed judging. JUDGING OVERAL SHOW CHAMPION tentatively
scheduled for 2:30pm. Specialty club meetings, awarding of show awards by specialty clubs, various raffles
and auctions.
Show ends on Saturday at 4:00pm, bird release time shortly after 4:30pm. To insure the security of all
entered birds please do not take your birds out of the show hall until an official announcement is made by Fred
Maenpa or another show official.
For safety reasons the feed and water cups will be emptied starting at 12:00noon on Saturday. This is done
due to spilled feed and water along with shavings on the floor especially during show teardown making for a
potential sllip and fall condition.
*The Grand National Show photographer will be Dick Hamer from Holland. Dick is a world renowned
pigeon photographer so he is a great addition to the 2015 NPA Grand National show team.
The Los Angeles Pigeon Club was formed in 1911 so it is one of the oldest and certainly one of the longest
lived and successful pigeon clubs in America. The LAPC has had the high honor of hosting the six largest ever
in entry numbers NPA Grand Nationals, it is our goal to see the 2015 GN Show right up there in entry
numbers. Entry numbers aside the Los Angles Pigeon Club has been going way back in years gained quite a
bit of recognition for its annual Pageant of Pigeons, entries are usually large, attendance by fanciers from near
and far outstanding and breed competition top notch. The Pageant of Pigeons over the years has been a must
be at show for top fanciers across America and even several other countries. Also noteworthy is that the LAPC
has going back to 1942, hosted with this year’s Grand National Show included eight nationals, perhaps the
most by any club!
While the LAPC and fancy misses the Pageant in the year before it has hosted a NPA Grand National
(putting on two big shows two months apart is not economically feasible) the LAPC membership fully
supports hosting a Grand National Show every few years. One thing that makes a Los Angeles Pigeon Club
hosted Grand National very popular is the generally great January weather in So. California. Many fanciers
delight in taking in some So Cal sun during a winter month that is not quite so inviting weather wise in their
home state area, other countries fanciers that have harsh January weather are elated to come to So Calif. in
January, many also enjoy bringing their wives and taking the short jaunt to glitzy Las Vegas after the show for
a day or two before returning home.
The National Pigeon Association and the Los Angeles Pigeon Club hope you will enter birds in and attend
the 2015 NPA Grand National Show. Both the NPA and LAPC know it will be a great experience for you and
all those who are in attendance.
5
*Some interesting facts on past NPA Grand National Shows held in Southern. California.
1942 Long Beach 3500 entries... (2 months after Pearl Harbor).
1949 Long Beach 4376 entries. (NPA record entries.)
1962 Long Beach 5411entries. (NPA record entries.)
1966 Costa Mesa 5792 entries. (NPA record entries.)
1991 Pomona 7290 entries. (NPA record entries.)
1998 San Bernardino 8788 entries...A new all time entry record that stands today.
2006 San Bernardino 7527 entries...Second most ever.
*2015 Ontario....What entry numbers will be recorded? Will a new entry number record be recorded? That
might well come to pass if you enter your birds in the 2015 Grand National.
GRAND NATIONAL SHOW RULES: ARTICLE B XII
Section 1: National Pigeon Association Grand National Show Rules
READ THOROUGHLY – DO NOT ENTER IF YOU CANNOT ABIDE BY THESE RULES
1. Failure to recognize or abide by these rules will exclude entry without refund.
2. The entry fee will be established by the host club with approval of the NPA BOD.
3. This show only recognizes NPA approved bands. All birds must be seamless banded and within one size for
that breed.
4.This show recognizes all breeds of NPA recognized standard-bred pigeons and ADA recognized doves.
5. Specialty clubs have selected their own judges and their decisions are final. Open class judges have been
selected by the host club and their decisions are final.
6. Each exhibit entered must be the bonafide property of the exhibitor and must be shown in its natural
condition. Proper trimming and preparation is considered natural condition. The right is reserved to disqualify
all unworthy specimens.
7. The show management will not be responsible for the loss of birds. However, the best security possible will
be given.
8.An NPA Show Catalog listing exhibitor–s names, placing to one past half the class and awards will be
printed and mailed to all exhibitors for a fee determined by the NPA BOD.
9. Clean water and feed shall be provided daily.
10. An adequate amount of bedding shall be provided and shall be available for replenishment during the
show.
11. All birds entered in the show will be cooped individually.
12. No substitutions will be made prior to check-in at the show. Substitutions shown with specialty clubs will
be allowed as the individual specialty club allows. The exhibitor must make the change on the coop card and
give the change to the specialty club secretary prior to judging so the change can be made on the judging
sheet. Open class substitutions will be permitted only when made in the same class, color, age and sex as the
original entry.
13. When a display award is given, the specialty club shall establish the method of scoring points.
14.The show management reserves the right to reject unhealthy or diseased specimens received for exhibition.
If sickness develops, the ill bird will be removed from the show hall.
15. The Grand National officially opens on Thursday morning at 10:00am. Birds may be cooped beginning at
noon on Wednesday. All birds must be cooped by no later than 4pm on Thursday. All entered birds must
remain in the show hall until 5pm Saturday. Birds may be cooped at 4pm Saturday and will be released at 5pm
Saturday after all exhibitors have verified that all their birds are in their possession.
16. The number of placings in each class shall be determined by the Specialty Club.
6
NOTE: There will be no bird sale section at the 2015 Grand National. This decision was made due to
the LAPC having to secure from other sources coops to hold the entered show birds over and above the
LAPC’s show equipment inventory of approx. 5000 holes. To rent, borrow and transport additional coops
and tables for a sale section did not make economical sense.
In addition, by Ontario Convention Center rules absolutely no selling of birds or other items will be
allowed in the parking lot or any other Convention Center property.
17. A Grand National Championship Certificate will be awarded to each breed exhibited where two or more
exhibitors are showing.
18. Specialty Clubs shall establish their own classes. Where no club agreement is in effect, classes shall be
provided for Young hen, Young Cock, Old Hen, Old Cock.
19. No birds shall be allowed in the show hall area on which an entry fee has not been paid. Entered birds may
be sold but must remain in the show hall until all birds are released on Saturday. No bird sale areas in the
parking lot will be allowed.
20. The disposition of carry cases is the discretion of the host club. No birds may be kept in carriers without
written permission from the Show Committee. If left in the show hall, all carriers must be stored completely
under the coops and may not extend beyond the coops.
&%$ A violation of these rules will result in a partial or total loss of rebate to the Specialty Club involved and
under contract for this show. A consideration of the loss of exhibiting privileges may also be considered by the
NPA Board. The Board’s decision in these matters is final.
Section 2: NPA Grand National Show is "OPEN COMPETITION". Birds will be shown with sponsoring
specialty breed club.
Section 3: NPA Grand National rebates held if specialty clubs do not return judging sheets.
Section 4: NPA members receive a $1.00 per bird NPA member discount for each bird entered at the NPA
Grand National Show.
Section 5: NPA Grand National Show & Convention itinerary:
Receive birds: Wednesday 12:00noon
Board meetings: Thursday, 7:00am & Friday, 7:00am (other meetings scheduled as needed)
Start of Show/Judging: Thursday, 4:00pm
Membership meeting: Thursday, 7:00pm
ARTICLE B XIII: GRAND NATIONAL SHOW SALE SECTION RULES

Section 1: RULES FOR SPONSORING A MEET AT THE NATIONAL
1. Any club that has sponsored a breed at the last three Nationals will receive the primary bid if they apply.
2. Co-sponsorship is to take place when more than one club wants to sponsor a breed. There will be one
National Champion and the rebates will be split by each clubs number of entries. It is in the interest of the
NPA that primary sponsoring clubs and secondary sponsoring clubs promote their breed in a friendly and
cooperative manner. The NPA reserves the right to arbitrate any dispute in Sponsorship of a breed.
3. Primary Sponsoring Clubs will remain primary sponsors unless they default in lack of cooperation with
secondary sponsors.
4. New clubs may sponsor a breed provided they are affiliated with the NPA and the breed does not have a
competitor in that they promote specialty clubs to become active in their chosen breed.

clearly stated on the entry form and in promotional materials.
13. The show hall shall be locked and secured at all times outside of show hall hours.
14. The host club agrees to provide a room for the NPA Photographer to photograph birds for the NPA Show
Catalog. This room shall be of such design that loose birds can be easily recovered without incident.
15. The NPA provides for a picture of each Breed Champion only. The host club must colTlect $10 for any
additional pictures requested by the Specialty Clubs. This may be deducted from Specialty Club rebates if
there are sufficient entries. The host club agrees to turn over, to the NPA, all collected monies for additional
pictures.
16. The host club agrees to set up an area with show coops for birds in the NPA auction. The number of
required coops and layout of the auction area will be coordinated with the NPA. The auction will be held at
1pm on Saturday unless otherwise specified.
17. The host club may hold any raffle or auction of its own to generate additional revenue to cover show
expenses.
NPA Meetings:
1. The host club shall provide adequate meeting space and time for NPA BOD meetings and the General
Membership meeting.
2. NPA meetings shall be coordinated per request from the NPA Secretary.
Show Judging Books/Sheets:
1. The host club shall either provide copies of completed judging records, or the original records themselves,

to return completed judging sheets will result in forfeit of any rebates.

Due to the Los Angeles Pigeon Club hosting the 2015 N.P.A. Grand National there will be no 2014
Pageant of Pigeons. The LAPC when they are honored with being able to host a Grand National must put
all their efforts into the Grand National and putting on the clubs Pageant of Pigeons just two months earlier
is not in the best interests of either the Pageant or Grand National. Economic factors and putting together
the work force needed to put on successfully two huge shows back to back dictates a Pageant in November
preceding the LAPC hosting a Grand National the following January is not logical.
However in November of 2015 the Pageant will return. The LAPC welcomes all to enter and attend
the Pageant of Pigeons in November of 2015.
Thanks to all who will make the 2015 Grand National a Great Show!

The dream of completing and opening the museum has been fulfilled. Let's preserve the dream
and support the museum. With a $25 donation, not only will you help accomplish this but you
will receive 10% off in gift shop, advanced notification of special events and receive a quarterly

Curator's Note - March 2014
As many of you know, we launched the museum for the NPA convention weekend in January and it
was a great success. The museum had over 300 visitors in 3 days. They came from all over the United
States and we had some international visitors as well. There are some great images on the website. For
now, the museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM and by appointment.
Since January, we have been blessed with numerous new donations. One in particular is a large pigeon
basket from Her Majesty’s Royal loft in England. See the image below.
This is such an exciting time. We may have just begun but the museum continues to add to the
collections and to develop new programs and exhibits. One way you can help is to become a member.
By becoming members, it helps us to grow and especially, care for the collections we have. Membership
information will be added to the website so all the pigeon fanciers can take the opportunity to become
members even if they can’t visit anytime soon. For now if you would like to become a member of the
museum, just mail me the $25 membership fee (checks made out to The American Pigeon Museum)and
your contact information. Send to The American Pigeon Museum & Library; 2300 NE 63rd Street;
Oklahoma City, OK 73111. You will be given a membership card; 10% off in the gift shop; quarterly
newsletter, and advanced notification for special events. Gift shop will be accessible online soon.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments. And as always, thank you for your support!

Russian Tumbler Breed
By Beth Davis ©2004, updated 2014 by Mark Newby
The Russian Tumbler pigeon originated from the East Prussian Roller of Germany, whose early
ancestors are believed to have been imported from Scandinavia in the 1700s as the Norwegian
Tumbler. By the late 1930s they were known as Russian Tumblers in this country and East
Prussian Tumblers were no longer imported to the US after World War II.
Over the years the conformation of the Russian Tumbler has become more compact, and
powerful with longer feathers than its early ancestors. This cobby bird has a full, broad crest, oval
head with pearl eyes (bull eyes allowed in whites only), large rosettes, a powerful neck and layered
muffs of 3" to 4". This broad breasted, wedge shaped bird should have a short, well proportioned
deep and rounded body with cocks weighing between 12 to 13 oz. and hens weighing 11 to 12 oz.
See the complete written standard and a drawing of the ideal purebred show pigeon on the
Standard Page. These even-tempered, small birds are economical to keep and make very good
parents. One of the many beauties of this breed is the many colors; black, dun, red, yellow, brown,
khaki, lavender and white selfs, combined with almond, kite, indigo, grizzle, dominate opal,
rosewing, whitesides, baldhead, badge, saddle, magpie, white bib, moorhead, shield and mottle as
well as bars, checks and T-patterns make this bird an inviting project bird for the fancier interested
in genetics. You can create new patterns and colors, which will become recognized at future shows.

The Los Angeles Pigeon Club, Inc.
Since 1911
The Los Angeles Pigeon Club, Inc. is proud to host yet another NPA Grand National Show. Hosting large
all breed shows is old hat to the club as with few exceptions since 1946 each year the LAPC has put on the
Pageant of Pigeons and their annual September Young Bird Show. The LAPC holds monthly meetings on the
second Thursday of the month at 7:00pm. The club puts out a monthly bulletin which is offered in full color
online or printed and mailed in B&W, each bulletin is a minimum of 12-14 pages, The full color e- mailed
version is generally expanded to 18-20 pages, sometimes more depending on content submitted.
Yearly dues in the LAPC are $20.00 for senior members and $7.00 for juniors 16 years of age and under.
The LAPC also offers a family membership at $25.00 a year.
LAPC monthly meetings are generally lively with guest speaker programs on various breeds, slide or
video presentations on pigeon shows in America and other countries, loft visits, and interviews of visiting
pigeon fancier from near and far. Starting at the June meeting thru Oct. of each year we hold young bird table
shows with great awards for best Fancy, best flying and best utility bird.
The LAPC is affiliated with the National Pigeon Association and is a proud supporter of the American
Pigeon Museum in OK City, Oklahoma. The LAPC has a permanent display at the museum with LAPC
memorabilia going back many years. A highlight of that display is the LAPC’s 100 year history book which is
hard cover and 448 pages. That enormous project was put together by Robert “Bob” Nolan a long time LAPC
member and officer.
The LAPC puts out on the Pageant of Pigeons a show report called the Pageant of Pigeons Marked
Catalog. This is the finest pigeon show report put out in the world. The last several years the catalog has been
in full color and 150 pages or more, the 2013 Marked Catalog was 196 pages plus with the ad pages.
This show report is not just a listing of the shows placing but oh so very much more. It includes pages and
pages of color photos of winning birds, participating breed specialty clubs breed and judging areas plus their
members, the Pageant banquet and lots of Pageant attendees. In other words it is a color pictorial of the show
from show setup day thru the shows teardown. The proof of that is that each Pageant of Pigeons Marked
Catalog is sought by pigeon memorabilia collects worldwide.
No club of any sort remains viable for 100 years plus without over the years many dedicated members
who put their all into seeing the club stays active and more importantly continually moves forward with new
and innovative ideas that are adopted. LAPC officers and members know that no club can stand on past
laurels, they realize that what was successful in the past is no guarantee they will be so today or tomorrow.
They realize a club to remain successful must have an eye on what is
happening today but also on the future tomorrow’s.
While the LAPC is rightfully proud of its 100+ year history that history has
not been without hitting some serious bumps in the road that could have spelled
disaster for the club those bumps were navigated and any damage they inflicted
repaired in short order.
The LAPC meets the second Thursday of each month at 7:30pm
at Lambert Park in El Monte, CA.
