The Visionary Bowling Products/TCBA National Playoff Tournament was held May
14 – 16 at Astro Bowl Sports Center in San Antonio and Fiesta Lanes in New Braunfels. Over 200 teams from nine states participated in the tournament.
In the women’s division, The Bowling Shop from Dallas claimed the title. The team
led the qualification and semi-final rounds, and was close to untouchable in the
match play finals. Winning 6 of their 8 matches, they won with a comfortable 276
pin lead. The members of the team have bowled competitively together and against
each other for 10 – 20 years and their mutual respect and knowledge of each others
games is what they believe is their greatest strength. ―We also have strong friendships that have been in place for all those years as well which helps to solidify the
team, too,‖ team member Michelle Rogers added. When asked if any one member
stood out as most valuable, Michelle said, ―Everyone bowled very well the entire
tournament and we had strong games every time. So we didn’t have just one person
who did really well; everyone contributed every game and we all thought that was
pretty amazing.‖ The team averaged 1050 scratch during the final round. Team
member Jennifer Hayes rolled a 300 in the first game of match play finals.
The win was very special to the team this year. On their shirts they wore the initials
of a former teammate, Vickie Rios, who had passed away. A bracelet with her name
on it was worn by every member of the team, as well. Also, for teammates Michelle
Rogers and Sammye Ragland, both members of the TCBA tournament staff for 15
years, having the name of the former TCBA President, Joe Cramer, embroidered on
their district champion patches and having retired tournament staffers, Mary Ellen
Clemons and Cathy Dosser, cheering them on meant a lot to them.
The Bowling Shop members are Melody Foster, Sammye Ragland, Bev Richardson,
Jennifer Hayes, Michelle Rogers, Alecia Henderson and Christy Daniels.
In the men’s division, Storm from Houston won the championship. This wasn’t the
first TCBA national victory for the team. They won the national title in both 2003
and 2006. The team also includes TCBA All Star tournament winners, Gerald West
and Eric Traylor (who has won the singles event 3 times).
Storm led the semi-final round and won 7 of their 8 match play final games. They
took the lead after game 3 and never looked back. Averaging 1110 scratch, they finished with a commanding 669 pin lead. Team member Charles Ackley bowled a 300
in the position round game of the finals. Members of the team include Mike Heineman, Charles Ackley, Mark Busscher, Cody West, Derek Johnson, Steven Pike, Eric
Traylor, and Gerald West.

TCBA!
Welcome back to a new season of TCBA.
There is a lot of information in this issue, so you may want to take it home
and review it.
the Delegates heard from prospective
centers on information to help them to
vote on the location of the 2011 All Star
and 2012 National Playoff sites.
After 16 years of working with one of
the fairest and kindest men I have ever
known, I hope I can come close to what
he has meant to the TCBA, and the
bowlers. Joe and I had many conversations over the years about where the
TCBA would be in the future. The future will have to go on with memories of
those talks, and what I retained from
them.
The Executive Board of Director’s were
up for re-election and some positions had
to be filled. Keith Savoie was elected to
the position of President, Charles Tanner retained his Vice Presidency, Sammye Ragland also retained the Women’s
Executive Secretaries position. The positions of Executive Treasurer and Men’s
Executive Secretary were vacant, to be
filled by the Board of Directors after the
tournament.
The weekend started with the Delegates
meeting on Friday morning at the Hilton Airport hotel . The meeting started
with Betty Shields saying a prayer and a
reading from Deana Cheshire to remember her father, and our past president
Joe. After some of the tears had dried,
After the joint meeting, the men voted
on proposed rule changes. The delegates
after some discussion approved the raising of the Entering Average Cap to 1050
for any five bowlers on the lanes.
