President’s Message
We wish our member,
District V Vice President
Sandy Schrah, well in her
bid for National Secretary
Treasurer at the National
Women’s Leadership
Conference in
Albuquerque, New Mexico!
As Mother Nature is slowly bringing us
shorter and darker days and is attempting
to slow us down, the Novi Oaks Charter
Chapter members have remained
extremely active. What a truly extraordinary
September that was! Not only did we have
a great monthly meeting with a valuable
presentation, we also had a successful
annual Autumn Brunch With Auction.
A great example of a
successful
collaboration is our
annual fundraiser.
This was a TEAM
effort as this year
more than a half of
our chapter members
helped out.
It is very exciting to see more members
interested in being involved in the various
committees and contributing their time and
ideas toward the growth and success of our
chapter. The willingness to commit and
follow through is among the strongest
attributes of any team. We all are unique
individuals who bring such a wealth of
diverse occupations, interests and talents
to our group. By capitalizing on our
strengths and working together toward a
common goal, it helps to grow and
strengthen all of our members. Success will
be more meaningful when it comes from a
joint effort.
I would like to express a heartfelt THANK
YOU to all who were involved in this year’s
event! Everyone who helped collecting
donations, setting up the banquet hall,
decorating and hosting the tables, assisting
with the auction items, and “running the
show,” made this event not only beneficial to
our chapter’s education fund, but also very
enjoyable to all those in attendance. I am
very excited to share with you that we
exceeded $10,000 in gross receipts for this
event.

President’s Message Continued
This is wonderful news for our chapter
because next year we will be able to
again offer scholarships for those
women who seek to better their
professional careers and pursue
professional degrees. In addition, we
will be able to support our own
members who seek to continue their
professional growth by attending the
ABWA conferences.
The 2016 National Women’s
Leadership Conference is just around
the corner and the excitement is
starting to build as the members are
making their last travel arrangements.
It will be a sensational moment when
all of the Novi Oaks members in
attendance walk across the stage and
accept the Best Practices Level I
award on behalf of the entire chapter.
There is a long list of requirements to
qualify for such a remarkable honor,
and our team, with the great
leadership of 2014-2015 Executive
Board, diligently fulfilled those
requirements. I am very delighted to
be a part of this dynamic, fun and
inspirational group of women.
Another proud moment for our chapter
at the national conference will be to
show our support for our own Sandy
Autumn Brunch With Auction a Success!
This is the 11th time we have held our
Autumn Brunch With Auction. Many of
the people who attended and many of
our donors have been with us from the
beginning. Our auctioneer, Coy Dockery,
has donated his time and talents for the
eleventh year. We also welcomed Ms.
Wayne County Arianna Quan.
Many members and friends worked hard
to obtain donations, and to make
donations themselves. Carol Mullaney
was able to find several new donors in
the Clarkston area.
Our members continue to come up with
wonderful table themes. This year, for
the first time, we asked attendees to vote
for their favorite tables by dropping
marbles in jars on the tables. The top
three vote-getters were: Kathy Crawford
with “Pure Michigan,” Sheila Marable
with “Paris in Spring Time,” and Jill
Novi Oaks Charter Chapter
Nancekivell and Jamie Schutt with “High
Tea.” Each winner received a large mum
plant as a gift.
Peggy Aniol and Sheri Mayer donated
plants for purchase, so we had our first
“Scholarship Garden.” The plants and
pots were absolutely beautiful!
Peggy, Sheri, Chris Struwe, and Carol
Mullaney worked tirelessly to make sure
all of the auction items were recorded
and assigned numbers and lined up in
the right order. Their many hours of
behind-the-scenes work made this event
super-organized!
Schrah by casting a vote for our next
National Secretary Treasurer. Sandy’s
roots in ABWA run deep as she has
been an active member for 18 years
and has served the organization on
many levels. She has been a vigorous
advocate for this great group of
women because she strongly believes
in continuous personal and
professional growth. We need
enthusiastic and passionate leaders
like Sandy! Best of luck to you, ABWA
sister! Your Novi Oaks Charter
Chapter members are behind you!
