Homecoming
November 16–21, 2015
October 2015
Dear Alumni and Friends,
DBU invites you to Homecoming 2015: Celebrating 50 Years in Dallas! The weekend of November 20–21 will be a wonderful time
of celebration on our campus. This year, we will be honoring the classes of 1975, 1985, 1995, and 2005.
The weekend will kick off on Friday evening, November 20, at 5:00 p.m., with the Chancellor’s Reception as Dr. and Mrs. Gary
Cook welcome all DBU alumni to join them in the new Jim and Sally Nation Hall. The reception will be followed by the Alumni
Homecoming Banquet, held at 6:00 p.m. in the Hillcrest Great Hall of the John G. Mahler Student Center, with special seating
for the classes of 1975 and 1985. During the banquet, the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award will be presented to Mr. J. Miles
Arnold (’05), CEO and founder of Mining Consultants, LLC, located in Dallas. While studying at DBU, Miles met his future wife,
Allison (Brown) Arnold (’03). Shortly after graduation, Miles and Allison were married, and Miles began working in mining and
production of natural stone and aggregates for construction, eventually opening his consulting firm in 2007. Miles and Allison
have two children, Brooklyn and Hudson, and they attend Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where Miles serves as a
deacon. We will also be recognizing Dr. Denny Dowd with the 2015 Honorary Alumnus Award. Dr. Dowd currently serves as
provost and chief academic officer at Dallas Baptist University. In 1999, Dr. Dowd came to DBU following his retirement from
a 28-year career as a teacher, coach, principal, and central administrator in the Arlington I.S.D. Dr. Dowd’s commitment to
education is a family tradition, with his wife, Candy, daughter, Kelli (’98, ’05), and son, Trent (’09) all serving the students of
Arlington I.S.D. Denny and Candy attend Fielder Road Baptist Church, where they have been members for 46 years. Dr. Dowd
serves as a deacon at Fielder and a board member for Mission Arlington and Trinity Kids.
Immediately following the banquet, DBU will host a 50th Anniversary Worship Service, which will take place at 8:00 p.m. in
the Patty and Bo Pilgrim Chapel. This special service will be an encouraging time of worship for the entire DBU Family. Many
alumni, current students, and faculty and staff will participate in the program, as we reflect on all that God has done and pray
together for what God is currently doing and will do in the future.
Homecoming Registration will take place on Saturday, November 21, from 2:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m. in the Constitution Foyer in the
Mahler Student Center. We will also have tours leaving from the Mahler at 2:00 p.m. If you are available to attend a tour, or are
able to visit the campus any time during Homecoming week, the Alumni Art Showcase (located on the third floor of the Collins
Learning Center) will be on display during all operating hours of the Learning Center. We hope you will take the opportunity to
enjoy a guided tour of the DBU campus to see the Lord’s provision of our newest additions and renovations.
DBU will host the Patriot Tailgate Party in the parking lot in front of the Chapel at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, where alumni and
students will enjoy food, games, and music as we prepare for the Homecoming Basketball Game. The class of 2005 will celebrate
their “10th at the Tent,” and the class of 1995 will celebrate their “20th at the Tent” as part of the Tailgate Party festivities. You
may purchase tickets for the 7:00 p.m. basketball game, where the Patriots will take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor
Crusaders, by calling the DBU Athletic Department at 214.333.5324, or by purchasing them online at www.dbutickets.com.
During halftime, we will crown the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen, and after the game celebrations, continue with the
Alumni After-Party and Student Life Bonfire Bash at the DBU Southwest Ponds. Please see the attached schedule for a more
detailed listing of events.
I hope that you are able to join us for this exciting weekend! If you would like to receive more information or have any questions,
