1) How many animals of each species did Moses take on board the
Ark?
2) Which country has a 4th of July – the UK or the USA?
3) What is the next letter in this sequence: O T T F F S S ?
4) If I take two oranges from three oranges, how many have I got?
(Answers at bottom of page 6)
Between them the children did very well and realized (I hope!) that
sometimes things really are impossible and sometimes things seem
impossible but in fact are just about possible, even though we almost
always like to see or hear something being done in order to believe it.
My message was simple: when faced with a difficulty, approach it
with a sense of optimism and have a go!
Looking ahead, there are some football and netball fixtures today
and tomorrow at U9 and U11 levels; on Thursday afternoon the Polwhele House Society is hosting an afternoon tea and AGM in the
drawing room before it becomes a cinema for the evening to entertain the boarders; and on Saturday we look forward to welcoming
some internal and external candidates and their families into school
for our annual chorister auditions.
With best wishes,
Alex McCullough

Cross-Country Results
th
On Tuesday 17 January we participated in a Cross-Country event at Truro Prep involving
Truro Prep, Truro High School and Polwhele. The course involved field and woodland running
with the Year 3 & 4 boys and girls completing 1000m and the Year 5 & 6 boys and girls completing 1500m.
It was rather chilly, but at least it was dry and all our runners did well on the day. All of Year 3
took part and thoroughly enjoyed this fixture as it meant they all got a chance to ‘strut their stuff’
and prepare for our Polwhele Cross-Country event in three weeks’ time.
Some of our top finishers included:
Year 3 boys (14 runners in total)
Timmy Roberts 2nd
Charlie Brocklebank 4th
Charlie Beckly 6th
Year 4 girls (21 runners in total)
Elyse Rodda 2nd
Thalia Farrelly 5th
Year 6 boys (11 runners in total)
Oliver Brocklebank 4th
Charles Morris 6th
Year 6 girls (11 runners in total)
Cicely Willis 2nd
Olivia Willis 3rd
It was great to see 23 of our Cross-Country runners putting in great performances on the day
and we look forward to our Polwhele Cross-Country on Saturday 4th February.
First Round
Cornwall Schools’ Cross-Country Championships 2012
Saul ran a fantastic race in very wet conditions. He paced himself extremely well and
used tactical overtaking to ensure he completed in the top 10 of the junior boys’ race.
The top 10 go through to the next round –
South West Schools’ Cross-Country Championships in February.
Excellent running Saul, good luck for the next round.
