THE Polwhele Post THE NEWSLETTER OF POLWHELE HOUSE Issue No. 86 24 January 2012 From the Headmaster... DIARY DATES In yesterday’s prep school assembly I set the children a number of ‘impossible’ tasks involving tearing and folding paper and finished with this ‘impossible’ intelligence test: Tuesday 24 January 3.00pm U9 Netball v Truro High (home) Wednesday 25 January 2.00pm U11 Netball & Football v St Joseph’s (home) Thursday 26 January 3.00pm PHSoc Afternoon Tea & AGM 5.00pm Boarding Taster Evening: Film Night Saturday 28 January 10.00am Chorister Auditions Tuesday 31 January 3.30pm U10 Mixed Hockey v Truro High School (away) 1) How many animals of each species did Moses take on board the Ark? 2) Which country has a 4th of July – the UK or the USA? 3) What is the next letter in this sequence: O T T F F S S ? 4) If I take two oranges from three oranges, how many have I got? (Answers at bottom of page 6) Between them the children did very well and realized (I hope!) that sometimes things really are impossible and sometimes things seem impossible but in fact are just about possible, even though we almost always like to see or hear something being done in order to believe it. My message was simple: when faced with a difficulty, approach it with a sense of optimism and have a go! Looking ahead, there are some football and netball fixtures today and tomorrow at U9 and U11 levels; on Thursday afternoon the Polwhele House Society is hosting an afternoon tea and AGM in the drawing room before it becomes a cinema for the evening to entertain the boarders; and on Saturday we look forward to welcoming some internal and external candidates and their families into school for our annual chorister auditions. With best wishes, Alex McCullough HEADMASTER headmaster@polwhelehouse.co.uk Boarding Taster Evening (Y3-Y8) Thursday 26th January Come and enjoy the first ‘Film Night’ at Polwhele House.
