Summer Power is a super-lively, full-day enrichment program
focused on quality, small group, age-appropriate activities. We
provide a Healthy Living experience for kids by educating on healthy
foods choices and the right balance of physical activity. Kids stay
motivated, entertained and are encouraged to make choices and
exercise independent thinking. Each week is packed with an amazing
variety of activities including multiple field trips to exciting places.
Not only are the kids entertained and engaged, they’re learning new
things, developing a healthy lifestyle and making new friends.
No two weeks are alike! Some of the popular things your kids will
enjoy every week are:
• Arts & Humanities – creative projects and learning through
the arts
• Science Projects – fun and learning through hands-on
exploration
• Health & Fitness – staying fit, healthy and strong while having
a blast
• Large-group Games – playing Capture The Flag, Kickball,
Scavenger Hunts and other popular kids’ games and sports

SUMMER SCHOOL CARE
For youth attending Mounds View School District, ETS summer
school, entering grades 1 – 6 in fall, 2016. Weekly fee includes

Our lacrosse instruction is designed to stimulate a kid’s love of the
game through focus on skills, drills and rules of the game.
FLAG FOOTBALL
Participants will be bussed from drop-off sites to summer sports
locations. Specific sites are TBD, visit ymcatwincities.org for
most updated information.
One time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child
includes a program T-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee.

Kids play every position and learn the basic offense and defense
skills including catching, passing, capturing the flag, punting
and kicking off a tee. Our focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship
and learning the game without contact or tackling.
SOCCER
Entering grades K – 6 in fall, 2016
Weeks of June 27, August 15 and August 29
Member Participants: $195/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week
Kids learn the basic skills and techniques of soccer and improve on
those skills as they learn to play every position. Our staff works
through a curriculum with kids on ball-control, passing, trapping,
shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing
their own shin guards and plastic cleats.
VOLLEYBALL
Entering grades K – 6 in fall, 2016
Weeks of July 5* and August 22

Kids learn about the sport of volleyball including: rules,
communication skills, serving, setting and bumping. Players work
through a progression of skills while learning the importance
of team work.
TENNIS

Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week
Kids will develop and improve their tennis techniques and skills:
forehand, backhand, serving, anticipating the ball and play
strategies. They’ll play a set or two as they learn the rules and
unique scoring. Participants are encouraged to bring their own
racquet. Tennis balls are provided.

Kids learn the proper techniques of running, pacing, jumping and
throwing. They will work on personal bests and learn about track
and field greats and their success.

Participants learn about proper grips, stances and alignment for
setting up a great shot. We will practice on a local golf course
where young golfers will have an opportunity to work with golf
course staff to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring
your own golf clubs; but clubs are available if needed. Bussing
provided from summer sports site.

SWIM ACADEMY LESSONS NOW OFFERED

Now kids can take YMCA Swim Academy group swimming
lessons during their time at Summer Power. The weekly
swim lessons occur during regularly scheduled Summer
Power swim days, at open swim time over seven weeks.
Swimming lessons are 30 minutes for ages 3-5 and 40
minutes for ages 6+. Swim students still get over an hour
of free swim time! Small class sizes ensure
student-centered swim instruction. YMCA certified
instructors use a nationally recognized learn-to-swim
curriculum. Registration information will be available
after May 1 at

Summer Uproar is a full-day, experience-based enrichment program
that encourages older kids to explore their ever-expanding world,
increase understanding, build independence and have a boatload of
fun. Uproar brings a multitude of character development
experiences to kids through community involvement, leadership
activities, team building exercises, goal setting and more! Days are
filled with super field trips, outings to amusement and water parks,
and fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind
and nurture the spirit of our youth.

Start your preschooler’s love affair with the great outdoors
by enrolling him or her in Wee Backpackers! From the moment
campers arrive each day, counselors guide them through
traditional day camp experiences including arts and crafts,
swimming, group games and nature studies. Let their
imaginations run wild as they sing songs and meet new
friends. All activities are carried out under the watchful eye
of camp counselors and are geared to show your child the
wonders of nature. Enroll your little camper today! We
maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:6.

Imagine yourself as a bold explorer hiking through the wooded

At age 18, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime – a position as YMCA camp counselor at
Camp St. Croix. I discovered my passion for working with youth and helping them to connect with
nature through meaningful outdoor experiences.
To be a part of the Camp Heritage team is beyond thrilling for me! I look forward to giving kids
fun and unique opportunities for growth in a nature-inspired setting. Whether you are a parent or

SPECIALTY CAMPS
OUTDOOR SPORTS SPECIALTY CAMPS
PROGRAM INTRODUCTION
OUTDOOR GAMES CAMP
Develop a greater passion for the things you
love, or try out something new at one of our
specialty camps!
At each of our specialty camps, day campers
spend approximately two hours each day in
their specialized activity. The remainder of
the day is spent enjoying traditional camp
activities. Samples of a typical day can be
found at daycampheritage.org.
Entering grades 1 – 3 in fall, 2016

Weeks of June 27, July 25 and August 22
Game on! It’s all fun and games as campers learn to play a variety
of outdoor games with a “camp twist”. This camp keeps kids active
and learning about lifetime games. Campers learn to play Kickball,
Volleyball, Disc Golf, Gaga Ball and new camp games. This camp is
a safe, fun, non-competitive program designed to build leadership
skills and self-esteem through team work. A special field trip is
planned each week.
CYCLE ADVENTURES BIKE CAMP
Entering grades 3 – 5 in fall, 2016
Member Participants: $185/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $210/week
Weeks of June 20, July 11 and August 8
Take the outdoors on with two wheels! In this fun camp, kids
explore the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes on safe and fun bike paths.
Kids also learn the basic parts of a bike and how to maintain it. We
will use popular bike and city maps to navigate the wonderful trails
using the best safety practices. Campers also plan an all-day bike
trip. Campers must bring a bike and helmet. Bikes will be
transported by a bus trailer and locked up at camp M – F.
CLIMBING CAMP
Entering grades 4 – 6 in fall, 2016
Member Participants: $190/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week
Weeks of June 13, June 27, July 18, August 1 and August 15
Campers embark on a climbing adventure! Campers will gain new
skills and self-confidence every day through a variety of climbing
activities. Campers strike out on an adventure as they test their
strength, strategy, and skill against our climbing tower. During
these sessions, climbers learn safety procedures, belay techniques,
knot tying and proper climbing techniques. This camp will feature a
field trip.
At each YMCA Specialty Camp, day campers spend
approximately two hours of each day in their
specialized activity. The remainder of the day is spent
enjoying Traditional Camp activities. Samples of a typical day

Don’t let this camp be “the one that got away”! The Rice Creek
Chain of Lakes provides the scene for shoreline fishing fun.
Campers learn the basics of fishing techniques through the catch
and release method. With some luck, kids will bring home pictures
of their “trophies.” Fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided but
campers may bring their own pole if they wish. This camp
features a special guided trip on a voyageur canoe provided
by the Wargo Nature Center.

Weeks of June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22
While learning the fundamentals of archery, campers examine
equipment close up, identify the parts of the bow and arrow
and learn the science behind drawing the bow and releasing the
arrow. Instructors teach proper grip, stance, and aim alignment.
Campers will discover their ‘eye dominance,’ the first step in
becoming a skilled archer. This camp will feature a field trip to
Bwana Archery.
Archery Camp uses more advanced equipment such as Genesis
Bows. Equipment is provided.

Campers learn paddling skills and canoe safety as they experience

Teens rise to the challenge of Leaders-in-Training Camp and
discover their leadership qualities. Participants will learn
and develop camp skills needed to lead camper activities,
including personal development through confidence building

through activity planning and event organization. They’ll have
opportunities to shadow counselors of younger campers and
assist staff in their camp activities. There will also be plenty
of time to hang out with friends – new and old. Come
experience camp from a whole new perspective!
JR. COUNSELOR PROGRAM: Take the next step in your
journey to becoming a young leader at Camp Heritage!
Campers need to complete one session of L.I.T’s and
must be entering 10th or 11th grade. Following L.I.T.
graduation, campers will receive a Junior Counselor

Don’t let this camp be “the one that got away”! The Rice Creek
Chain of Lakes provides the scene for shoreline fishing fun.
Campers learn new techniques in casting; lure choice and fish
identification. With some luck, kids will bring home pictures of
their “trophies.” Campers are encouraged to bring their own
pole if they wish but fishing poles, tackle and bait are
provided. This camp features a special guided trip on
a voyageur canoe provided by the Wargo Nature Center.
TEEN CANOEING CAMP
Entering grades 6 – 8 in fall, 2016
Member Participants: $190/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week
Weeks of July 11 and August 15
Campers embark on a canoeing excursion full of adventure and
challenges. Advanced safety drills and games will be taught
and played on the water. Paddling techniques and teamwork
will be essential in this fun camp. Campers learn the skills and
importance of reading the river map as they plan their trip.
The highlight of the week includes a full day of canoeing the
St. Croix River!

Campers discover the science behind drawing and releasing
the bow while fine tuning their archery skills. Archery lessons
take place on and off-site. Campers will receive a lesson from
the experts on their field trip to Bwana Archery. Instructors
teach proper grip, stance and aim alignment. Equipment will
be provided.

Campers strike out on a bold adventure of climbing and canoeing
as they test their strength, strategy and skill through a week of
their favorite outdoor activities. The essential skills of map reading,
knot tying and outdoor cooking will be taught early as the group
plans their trip. This exciting camp allows kids to create and
implement a fun outing through the exploration of their favorite
outdoor activities. Previous experience climbing and canoeing is
beneficial. This camp will feature on overnight trip of climbing
and canoeing on the St. Croix River!

a day at Camp St. Croix’s high teams challenge course. This
camp will feature two field trips. The highlight of the week
is a full day trip at Taylors Falls climbing the bluffs on
the river.

Fully experience the great outdoors! Tent camp for two nights with
us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave
Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up,
the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the
WI Dells. We’ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike,
swim and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us
for this thrilling outdoor adventure!
LANESBORO BIKING AND CAVE TOUR
Offered July 12 – 14 (3-day session)

This adventure begins at Mystery Cave State Park near
Lanesboro, where we’ll set up camp. Then we go underground
to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation’s most unique
caves. We’ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the
historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the
Root River.
ZIP LINE ADVENTURE
Offered July 19 – 21 and August 9 – 11 (3-day session)

This adventure takes campers soaring! Participants will learn a bit
about nature and history at each stop. Beautiful Interstate Park is
our campsite for one night. We’ll enjoy the park’s rolling, wooded
hills and the banks of the St. Croix River. Campers will spend
a half-day at Trollhaugen Zip Line Adventures soaring from
station to station. Then we’ll experience a night sleeping in the
Yurt at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. Here we will canoe and participate
in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway!
NORTH SHORE KAYAK AND
ALPINE SLIDE TOUR

The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the
spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things
to see and do there! We’ll spend two nights camping at
Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include
riding the alpine slide, hiking and exploring. On Wednesday
campers will spend the day in a guided kayak tour to local islands.
This is a trip you don’t want to miss!

The Y is committed to the policy that all persons should have
