Meet the people ... Share the passion ...
Discover the beauty and taste the quality of
North Georgia’s developing wine region.
In the 1800s there were many vineyards and wineries thriving
in Georgia in a golden age of little regulation and no taxation.
Records show that in 1900, Georgia ranked sixth among grape
growing states.

In 1907 Georgia adopted full alcohol prohibition, 11 years
ahead of national prohibition, destroying a generation of wine
making traditions brought by many European immigrants
to America. Today a farm winery renaissance is taking place
across America. Most states have passed farm bills and all 50
states can boast at least one bonded winery. Georgia’s bill
was passed in the early 1980s and the state’s two oldest and
largest wineries, Chateau Elan and Habersham Winery began
production. But the real explosion in vineyard development has
been in recent years. Over a dozen wineries have opened in the
last decade in North Georgia, largely based on the success of the
premium European varieties thriving in the area. The critical
success of this developing wine region has prompted the launch
of still a dozen more projects slated to open in the next couple
of years.
We invite you to experience the beauty of our vineyards and
taste the quality of our wines as North Georgia emerges into a
prominent wine growing region.
The Winegrowers Association of Georgia is a non-profit
corporation organized to promote and market Georgia wines,
to improve the market environment for Georgia wines, to
increase public awareness of Georgia wines, and to facilitate
research in Georgia viticultural and vinfication techniques to
improve Georgia wines. Annual members must qualify with
a minimum of five acres in Georgia of vinifera or FrenchAmerican grapes in production or with a minimum of 1,000
cases of wine produced annually from Georgia grown vinifera
or French-American grapes.

BlackStock Vineyards
BlackStock Vineyards, the first and largest of the current vineyards in
the Dahlonega area, was founded by formally-trained winemaker David
Harris, a 20-year pioneer in Georgia wine. After a decade dedicated to
evolving a vineyard with wife and partner Trish, the Harris’ now offer
an estate winery for your pleasure. Enjoy spectacular views of the Blue
Ridge Mountains in the panorama of
lush vineyards, while experiencing some
of the best wines in the Southeast. We
cater to the serious wine enthusiast,
promising an educational experience for those with
a passion to learn more about wine, and are
particularly family-friendly with an array of
diversions for young children. The winery
specializes in private events from formal weddings of up to 200, to
informal luncheons on our vineyard deck. We offer deli selections daily,
with fresh baked goods and live music often featured on weekends.
All BlackStock wines are currently made
exclusively from estate grown grapes produced
on the winery property. The Harris family believes
very strongly that wine is made in the vineyard,
and our wines represent specific field selections
grown to fulfill their particular niche and style.
While the cellar practices are meticulous and
detail-oriented, the emphasis is on gentle handling
and minimal intervention. The real differences are
derived from how the winegrapes are cultivated in
the field.

Crane Creek Vineyards
At Crane Creek Vineyards, we like to think that wines made from our
grapes are an expression of our unique area. Our goal is to grow the
finest regional winegrapes possible then craft these fruits of our passion
into distinctive and delicious wines. We love what we do and enjoy
sharing our passion.
Crane Creek Vineyards sits high in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The
microclimate, a combination of warm dry summer days, cool mountain
nights, and well-drained mineral
soils, allows us to cultivate grapes
that produce complex wines
with fresh assertive aromas and
concentrated flavors.
Here at Crane Creek we share
the belief that first and foremost
wine is best enjoyed with food,
friends and family -- preferably all
at the same time! We also believe
that wine is for everyone, and for
everyone there is a wine. As such,
we craft a variety of separate labels, each with a different style and appeal
to our many guests.
Our unique tasting room is located within the original 1886 Appalachian
Farm House. Enjoy your tastings there or on our spacious decks
Overlooking the vineyards and the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.
Vintner’s tours are available and include a wine tasting, cheese and
cracker appetizer and a souvenir glass. They are by appointment only so
please call ahead and set up your tour today.

Frogtown Cellars
Nestled in the North Georgia Mountains between Dahlonega and
Cleveland, Frogtown Cellars is dedicated to the production of high
quality wine grapes and premium wines. Our vineyards encompass 40
acres of rolling terrain at 1800-foot elevation, planted with 18 different
varieties of vinifera grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc,
Merlot, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Tannat, Touriga, Roussanne, Marsanne
and Viognier. Frogtown Cellars produces over 150 tons of grapes each
harvest for use in its winery and sale to other wineries.
Constructed on a hillside overlooking the vineyards, the Frogtown winery
is an underground, tri-level, gravity-flow winemaking facility. Using
gravity in place of pumps allows for gentle vinification and treatment of
our grape must, juice and wine from start to finish, allowing us to treat
every wine grape in an individual manner and develop a style of wines
that is uniquely Frogtown.
Atop our underground winery sits Frogtown’s traditional mortise and
tenon timber frame tasting room and event facility. With panoramic
views of our vineyards, 4-acre lake and the North Georgia Mountains,
Frogtown is the perfect venue
for winetastings, wine dinners
and lunches, weddings and
special events. Planning your
wedding or corporate event
is our specialty. For great
wine, fabulous food and
attention to detail contact
frogtownwedding@gmail.com.
Our dedication to wine grape
growing and production in the
vineyard and winery has allowed our wines to earn awards in some of the
world’s most prestigious wine competitions. In fact, Frogtown is one of
the most awarded East coast wineries in major U.S. competitions.
Escape to Frogtown, taste our wines and enjoy a day in the vineyards. The
Frogtown Tasting Room is open year round, Fridays 12 to 5, Saturdays
12 to 6, Sundays 12 to 5, or by appointment. The Frogtown Bistro
open from 12 until 3:30 Friday & Saturday, 12:30 until 3:30 PM on
Sunday; and the tasting room is open on Sunday 12:30 until 5 PM.
Winetaster and Winemaker Dinners are offered on Saturday nights
by reservation and Winetaster Brunches on Sundays by reservation.

Habersham Vineyards & Winery
Montaluce Winery & Estates
Producing Georgia wines since 1983, Habersham Vineyards &
Winery is one of Georgia’s largest and oldest wineries with production
exceeding 15,000 cases annually. Just one half mile from Alpine Helen
in Nacoochee Village, the winery features daily tastings, a large gift shop
with a great selection of unique wine specialty items, and gourmet foods.
The production area including the tank room, bottling line and barrel
room may be viewed from the tasting room.
We utilize our best grapes and oak barrels to produce premium, vintage
dated, varietal Creekstone wines. Our popular Habersham label includes
varietal vinefera wines as well as blended wines using both vinefera and
French-American grapes. Our Southern Harvest wines utilize the native
muscadine grape as
well as fruit flavors
and are nostalgic for
many Southerners.
Most of the grapes
used in our wines are
from two company
owned vineyards,
Mossy Creek and
Stonepile, which yield
around 135 tons
annually. Varieties
grown include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Seyval, Vidal
and Chambourcin. We also purchase other varietals such as Sangiovese
and Viognier from nearby Blackstock Vineyards and produce Muscadine
wines from grapes grown in South Georgia.

Montaluce Winery & Estates, just an hour north of Atlanta, is the
newest addition to North Georgia’s wine growing community. Inspired
by Tuscany’s rolling hillside vineyards, Montaluce is situated on 400
acres, on the edges of the Chattahoochee National Forest near downtown
Dahlonega. Winemaking here embodies an artful blend of sense of place,
ingenuity and the best technology. Montaluce’s lead winemaker, Stefano
Salvini, comes from Bertinoro, Italy and the lauded Campodelsole
Winery. He brings his talent and knowledge of Italian winemaking to the
United States and will harvest Montaluce’s first grapes in fall of 2008.
At the heart of the property and atop one of Dahlonega’s highest hills,
the Montaluce winery is reminiscent of a centuries-old Tuscan villa. The
impressive building, with magnificent 180-degree views of the vineyards
and mountains beyond, houses a world-class restaurant (Le Vigne) and
event facility, wine tasting bar, gourmet gift shop, roof-top Owner’s Club
and state-of-the-art winemaking facilities. With more than 10,000 square
feet of production space, the gravity flow winery is poised to produce
some of the Southeast’s finest wines. Tours and tastings are available
year-round, Tuesday through Sunday. Private events for up to 200 and
romantic vineyard weddings are our specialty.
Come enjoy “La Vita Bella,” Montaluce’s ideal based on the Italian
philosophy of food, wine, family and sharing. Guests will enjoy gourmet
dining, winery tours, educational wine seminars, culinary classes and
demonstrations, wine tastings and breathtaking vineyard views at the
foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Montaluce Estate’s master plan
has more than 300 home sites
of unparalleled beauty including
cottages, villas and estate homes.
Lots range in size from one to
three acres and consist of some
of the most beautiful lake, river
and vineyard front lots. A limited
number of lots are currently
being released. Overnight
accommodations are available
in luxurious rental cottages and in mid-2009, a 60-room Inn will open
offering an unrivaled Georgia wine country getaway.

Persimmon Creek Vineyards
Established in the spring of 2000 by Dr William “Sonny” Hardman III and
his wife Mary Ann, Persimmon Creek Vineyards is truly a botanical gem
nestled between Lake Rabun and Burton in the mountains of Northeast
Georgia. The cool mountain air and rocky soil of this 110-acre, 2100-ft.
elevation estate have made an idyllic home for 100% estate grown Riesling,
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Seyval Blanc. The immaculately maintained
vineyards planted along the rippling Persimmon Creek produce high
quality grapes that are treated to a winemaking combination of old-world
tradition and state-of-the-art technology and devotion to Georgia’s special
terroir to produce wines acclaimed by Master of Wine Jancis Robinson
and Appellation America’s Roger Dial. The process begins with manual
pressing. The juices are then fermented in custom-made stainless steel
tanks and aged in French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels. Each
vintage is then bottled by hand, handcorked, and hand-labeled.
The vineyards are opened by
appointment only for educational tours,
private tastings and custom luncheons.

Tasting Room and Shop Persimmon on the Square opened
in downtown Clayton in April 2008. The
entire Hardman family worked gathering stones from the vineyard terroir
to construct a 10’ wide fireplace, graced further with vintage aged barn
wood. Besides le vin de famille, the shop offers the olive oils, honeys, salts,
specialty pastas, ceramics, and glassware we love most. We hope you will
come in to enjoy the conversation of like minds who enjoy the life of good
wine, family and friends.
Open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday from 11 AM until 6
PM - Tasting of Persimmon Creek’s North Georgia Mountains Estate Grown
Wines: Seyval Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Ice Wine.

Sharp Mountain Vineyards
Sharp Mountain Vineyards operates on the simple but essential
principle that to produce the finest wine, you must begin with the finest
fruit. This quest for perfection requires personal attention to every
detail – from employing tried-and-true “winegrowing” practices to
personally harvesting the best grapes and
handcrafting the wines.
Ron and Jan Rathgeb began their labor of
love in earnest in 1995, planting Merlot,
Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and
Franc, Gewürztraminer, Viognier and
Pinot Noir. In 2000, the Rathgebs added
Primitivo, Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc,
and Pinot Gris to the breezy hillsides of
their peaceful, 19 -acre Sharp Mountain
estate.
At 1,500 feet, Sharp Mountain Vineyards
is ideally suited to its purpose. The rocky,
alluvial soil is perfect for growing these
balanced vines, which thrive on 5 acres of well-drained slopes. The westfacing site provides even, north-to-south exposure to nourishing sunlight,
and wider spacing of the plants maximizes air circulation.
The Rathgebs regularly remove leaves and thin the crops to maintain the
health of the plants and to produce the highest quality grapes. Although
these practices lower yield, they ultimately produce more intense and
complex wines.
From start to finish, Sharp Mountain Vineyards wines are truly handcrafted in the old-world fashion. At harvest-time, Ron and Jan choose
each grape with care and begin the wine making process utilizing the
highest-quality Italian-made equipment.
The result is more than a wine: it is an experience.

Tiger Mountain Vineyards
Visit Tiger Mountain Vineyards for a unique taste of the Blue Ridge
mountains in a glass! We take pride in growing and producing unusual
vinifera varietals. The winery is 2½ miles south of Clayton or just 90
minutes northeast of Atlanta. Our fine handcrafted wines, which have
won over 100 awards in national and international competitions, are
made from European
and American grapes
grown near the tiny
mountain town of Tiger.
John and Martha Ezzard
started planting their
wine grapes in 1995 on
the five-generation-old
farm where John was
born. They took their
cues from a successful
Virginia vintner,
selecting varieties of
grapes suited to the
climate of the Southern
Blue Ridge Mountains:
French and Portuguese
varieties and the
American Norton.
Bill and Leckie Stack
began making wine at
Painting by Mimi Shaw - mimishaw.com
their apple orchard in
Tiger in 1988 and refined their winemaking skills with studies, travels
and experimentation.
In 1999, the Ezzards and Stacks pooled
their talents to open Tiger Mountain
Vineyards. The two families hand craft
their wines from grapes they grow in
the Ezzard and Stack vineyards on sunny
slopes at the base of Tiger Mountain.
Their barrel aged wines are sold in fine
retail establishments throughout Georgia
and in Highlands, North Carolina. Tiger
Mountain wines are listed in five star
restaurants including Atlanta’s
Bacchanalia, the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead
and The Cloister Beach Bar at Sea Island.
