FORE OUR KIDS CHARITIES
About Blank Children’s Hospital
Blank Children’s Hospital
was built by A.H. and Anna
Blank and opened in 1944 in
honor of their son, Raymond.
Since that time, the hospital
has grown and undergone several renovations to accommodate sick and injured
children. Today, Blank Children’s Hospital is a 96-bed facility that is committed
to family-centered healing, caring, and teaching for children across Iowa.. The
number of medical specialists, programs, and services is constantly growing to
improve care and meet the changing health needs of children and families. Each
year, through inpatient treatment, clinic visits, transport and outreach, Blank
Children’s touches the lives of more than 80,000 children across our state. Funds
from the Principal Charity Classic are used to support programs, services and
equipment needed to provide the best possible care for patients and families! The
Principal Charity Classic purchased two Starlight Fun Center video game units
for Blank Children’s Hospital in 2014. The Starlight Fun Centers provide bedside
entertainment and bring the healing power of play to pediatric patients. Blank
Children’s Hospital is part of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, which also includes
Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Methodist West Hospital,
John Stoddard Cancer Center, UnityPoint Clinic, and UnityPoint at Home.

cultural community as a key element of a world-class quality of life. Sixteen central Iowa municipalities
and governments – Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Carlisle, Clive, Des Moines, Grimes, Indianola, Johnston,

in 2005, Bravo Greater Des Moines has awarded nearly $20 million in funding to more than 90 arts, culture
and heritage organizations. Funding provided by The Principal Charity Classic®, in partnership with the Greater Des Moines Community
Foundation, supports Connecting Kids and Culture. This program provides supplemental funding to Central Iowa schools for grade K-5
students to attend an arts or cultural field experience or host in-class arts education program.. The Community Foundation and Bravo
Greater Des Moines combine contributions from The Principal Charity Classic to fund this program. Since 2007, Connecting Kids and
Culture has provided more than 260,500 central Iowa students with an arts or cultural learning experience and more than $1,1Million has

About Variety—The Children’s Charity
Variety - The Children’s Charity of IOWA helps Iowa’s children in need. Programs supported
by Variety benefit children’s hospitals, youth at risk, children with disabilities, and more everything from funding programs to the purchase of medical equipment. Variety is a unique
organization that raises money and distributes it to children’s programs. All money donated
to and raised by Variety of Iowa stays right here in Iowa helping Iowa’s youth. Variety’s Kids
on the Go Program helps kids gain mobility, confidence, and independence by providing
bikes, helmets, and locks to children who have never had their own bike, specialized adaptive
bikes and medical equipment for children with special needs, and Variety Vans for children’s
organizations. All kids deserve to have the same childhood experiences — from bike rides to zoo days — even if they may have to go
about it just a little bit differently.
