practices all summer to prepare for the fall season. Seniors and their dates enjoyed the dance with friends, followed by an all-night Prom Fest held at Chapelle that was chaperoned by parents and teachers. It was certainly a night to remember! Prom Fest Senior Countdown On Thursday, May 14, the class of 2015 celebrated Senior Countdown outside with families and friends. Seniors wore t-shirts in their class colors, burgundy and champagne, and released balloons according to tradition. Congratulations seniors, Chapelle will always be your home! Baccalaureate Mass On Thursday, May 21, Archbishop Chapelle held its Baccalaureate Mass before the Class of 2015 graduation. Co-valedictorians Mallory Knudsen and Alyssa Rieder and senior class officers gave readings during the ceremony. The senior class favorites presented their symbols; including the class votive, senior ring, senior motto, senior sweater, and class flower and colors. The 2015 Outstanding Catholic Senior, Courtney Giardina, was recognized for her Catholic leadership during her time at Chapelle, along with the outstanding student nominees from the class of 2015. Lastly, seniors awarded Principal Serio with the class gift, an Archbishop Chapelle flag, to leave their mark on their alma mater. Congratulations, graduates! Elementary School Service Trip Twenty-two Chapelle students volunteered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton this month to assist the elementary school's annual Field Day for 1st-7th graders. Field Day included water games and fun activities with shaving cream led by Chapelle students and chaperoned by parents and teachers. On Friday, May 22, the Class of 2015 Commencement Ceremony was held at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans. 157 seniors were conferred as outstanding graduates of Archbishop Chapelle High School. Eighth Grade Closing Ceremony On Wednesday, May 27, Chapelle 8th graders celebrated their graduation and initiation as high schoolers. Congratulations to all of our young Chipmunks! Junior Artist Wins Silver Award Archbishop Chapelle Junior Alexis Mancuso won the Silver Award Honor in the 2015 "With Art I Can…" Mixed Media Contest. Mancuso was awarded a $50 gift coupon to Blick Art Materials and Chapelle art teacher Mrs. Sarah Bachemin was awarded a $100 gift coupon. Mancuso highlighted the power of art to heal using pencil and acrylic on canvas with gold foil and shattered glass to symbolize recovery. Chapelle art students are regularly featured in the fine arts building lobby to showcase our diverse group of talented young ladies. Congratulations to Alexis and to Mrs. Bachemin for her mentorship! Building Literacy Through Art Chapelle art students participate in the Students Rebuild Literacy Challenge to help improve youth reading and writing skills around the world. For each bookmark students create, the Bezos Family Foundation donates $1 to the Save the Literacy Boost program in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Our young artists have created more than 62 bookmarks so far and continue to dedicate their time to advancing literacy in developing countries. Great work, girls!
