IV Lindholm, Garrett Trumpet How To Use This Tempo Chart 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Using a metronome, establish your ERROR-FREE TEMPO. “ERROR-FREE” is defined as a minimum of TWO CONSECUTIVE PERFORMANCES of the given excerpt with a metronome and without a single error. This includes all articulations, style and phrase markings, dynamics, and evenness of technique. Increase the tempo in 2-beat increments until you reach the point when errors appear. Record the DATE to the right of the excerpt’s measure numbers and beneath the number that corresponds to your error-free tempo. If there are no measure number ranges listed it means there are no further excerpts for you at that tempo. You do not have to fill in the box beneath each tempo marking. You may find that you can increase your tempos by several beats in one day. It will become more and more difficult to increase your tempos. Start NOW, and use the strategies modeled by your directors and private teachers. Be honest with yourself! You will be asked to demonstrate your highest error-free tempo on demand!
