WELCOME TO THE MEGANTIC REGION
Populated from the late 19th century by Irish, English and Scottish immigrants and later
by French, the Megantic region is located in the Eastern Townships, right by the border of
Maine. Megantic, which means “place where fishes are held” in Native American
language (Abenakis) offers an exceptional natural environment and is not far from big city
centres.
The magnificent Megantic region is truly
splendid throughout all four seasons. Come
discover a diversity of activities, all
surrounded by imposing mountains and

THE SUMMIT DRIVE
The Summit Drive, one of the most recently
designated tourist routes in Quebec, connects
high mountain peaks in the southeastern part of
heights of discovery! the
province. Chains of majestic mountains,
magnificent lakes and endless country roads
characterize the region's landscape. At altitudes of 350 to 550 metres, 15 municipalities along
the 157 km route welcome visitors, each in their respective decor. They are the doorways to
many cultural and outdoor activities. An information panel located at each village rest area
describes its attractions and services, and acquaints newcomers with local tradition and
heritage.
