Airport
Munich for
Tourism Professionals
Dear travel industry partners,
Isn’t it true that the backbone of our industry is service and support? Yes. And
when you top excellent service with efficiency and passenger-friendly facilities
you have what it takes to successfully operate an international hub airport.
»Living ideas – Connecting lives« is much more than Munich Airport’s new
slogan; it defines the steadfast commitment to our passengers and partners.
They are among the 12 million travelers worldwide who participated in the
internationally renowned Skytrax survey 2013 that identified Munich Airport as
»The Best Airport in Central Europe« and »The 6th Best Airport Worldwide«.
As Munich Airport is constantly improving its state-of-the-art facilities and service
portfolio we have also decided to reposition our brand and thus to redesign our
main tool for the travel trade. Our Sales Guide has a new layout and will make it
easier for planners to organize travel packages to Munich, Bavaria and Romantic
Europe. Spectacular Alpine scenery and numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites
await the traveler upon arrival at Munich Airport. One is quickly captivated by the
places where history was made and quite tempted to travel down Bavaria’s
extensive network of holiday routes to experience the region’s culture. Why resist
the opportunity to experience medieval cities, picturesque villages, amazing
architecture and fabulous shopping?
Another Bavarian jewel is the city of Munich itself. Here trend merges with tradition
to create an atmosphere of magic. Discover the features that make Munich an
extremely popular city: outstanding museums, famous theaters and orchestras,
magnificent palaces, lovely parks, gourmet temples, down-to-earth beer gardens
and much more…

Great travel destinations need powerful gateways. Looking back, the development
of Munich Airport has been a dynamic process from a mainly point-to-point airport
into one of Europe’s most modern hub airports. Currently, Munich Airport ranks
number seven in the »Champions League« of European airports. Yet, I firmly believe
that we have a good chance of becoming one of Europe’s Top 5 hub airports by the
year 2020.
Even so, we will always pursue the commitment to our tourism region and the close
cooperation with you – our travel industry partners.

With currently over 38 million passengers per year, Munich
Airport (1) ranks number 7 among the »Top 10« European
airports. When it comes to passenger satisfaction, Munich
was voted »Best Airport in Central Europe 2013« by the
London-based institute Skytrax, which surveyed over 12
million passengers around the world.
Terminal 1
Terminal 1 was opened in 1992 and hosts all non-Star
Alliance airlines. With very short distances, Terminal 1 is
mostly tailor-made for the needs of point-to-point traffic.
The terminal is built in a modular way, with 5 modules
(A – E), each having its own check-in, passport and security
control.
Terminal 2 (2)
Terminal 2 was opened in 2003 and hosts all Star Alliance
members and Lufthansa partners. The terminal has become
one of Europe’s fastest and most efficient terminals for
connecting passengers with a minimum connecting time of
only 30 minutes. This can be attributed to the terminal’s clear
and user-friendly structure as well as to the Hub Operation
Center. The HOC is Terminal 2’s command center for maximizing connectivity. Unlike Terminal 1, this terminal has a
central check-in area as well as one central security control.
2
Terminal 2 satellite (3)
In September 2013, Munich Airport celebrated the topping-out ceremony of the Terminal 2 satellite facility. The
facility will be the first midfield terminal to go into operation
at a German airport. Designed like an island on the apron,
it permits aircrafts to dock on both sides of the building.
Without any landside transportation links, the satellite will
not be a standalone terminal but rather a functional
element of Terminal 2. Construction work on the satellite
is planned for completion in 2015.
3
Terminal Direct Service+
The »Terminal Direct Service+« enables passengers,
arriving with short connecting times or even on delayed
flights, to catch their connecting flights by using a dedicated transport service team. Airport staff picks up the passengers right at the plane and escorts them efficiently
through passport and customs control to their connecting
flights. The service is available for all airlines operating in
Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. In case of an unforeseen delay,
the service will be requested by the airline automatically.

The Wies Church, located in Steingaden in Upper Bavaria, is
one of the loveliest Rococo buildings worldwide. On June 14,

with its variety of structural styles is a rare architectural
treasure. With a city so rich in visual attractions, guests are
encouraged to plan enough time for a visit to Salzburg to

lovely urban bustle. Whether you are coming to enjoy the

facets like:

and largest, fully preserved fortress in central Europe
¬ Getreidegasse as the heart of Austria‘s most beautiful
shopping center
¬ the Cathedral, which is the most monumental early
Baroque building in the Alps
Mozart and Salzburg (3)
Although Mozart’s music has captured the hearts of music
lovers around the world, his hometown Salzburg is the city
most closely associated with the great composer. 350 of his
loveliest works were composed in Salzburg, laying the
cornerstone for his unique career and making Mozart what
he has undisputedly been to this day: the world‘s most
important and most often played composer. His memory is
preserved in Salzburg with great love and expertise. Visitors
from all over will find traces of Mozart in Mozart’s birthplace
in the Getreidegasse, his later residence, the Mozart Statue
and of course in his music, which you can hear in several
different locations!
Bad Gastein – fit for royalty
In the midst of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Bad Gastein
basks in fresh mountain air and a fog-free setting at 1,000
meters above sea level. Its very characteristic appearance,
with beautiful buildings dating back to the »Belle Époque«,
blends harmoniously into its natural surroundings. This is a
spa town of world renown with a very special flair: Relaxation and recreation in pure mountain air, combined with an
ideal high-altitude climate and Gastein’s thermal waters
guarantee you a vacation that is certain to exceed your
highest expectations!

/Winter sports and golfing
Winter sports
Golfing
Bavaria as an affordable winter sports
destination is characterized by its
multitude of ski resorts, each with
its own charm and character, like the
Spitzingsee skiing area, GarmischPartenkirchen, the Großer Arber and
Allgäu’s largest winter sport arenas in
Oberstdorf. The slopes in the Bavarian
Alps and the Bavarian Forest have
everything the skier’s heart desires:
dizzying descents for the more
advanced and gentle slopes for
beginners, families and just-for-fun
skiers.
As soon as you arrive, you will feel right »at home on the
range« on one of Bavaria’s numerous golf courses located
primarily in the lake regions near Chiemsee and Lake
Starnberg, in Berchtesgadener Land and near Neuschwan
stein Castle. Even in Munich, awarded »the best city for
golfers«, you will find quite a few great golf courses. Enjoy
one of the many 9- and 18-hole facilities where you can
indulge in your passion.
The Chiemsee Golfcard
The Chiemsee region is not only famous for its natural
beauty and wealth of culture and leisure possibilities. By
offering a fantastic array of golf courses with mountain
back-drops and breathtaking lakeside views – it is also a
great place to play golf. In cooperation with nine regional
golf clubs, the Tourist Information Office Prien came up with
something unique – the Chiemsee Golf Card offers the
opportunity to play at different locations on varied courses
and at different skill levels in one of the most beautiful and
idyllic golf areas in Germany.

Culture and cities
The magic of the festive season is
nowhere quite as evident as at the
Christmas markets. The tempting
aromas of mulled wine, sweet roasted
almonds and gingerbread create an
unforgettable atmosphere. Come and
visit Bavaria’s world-famous Christmas
markets in Nuremberg, Kempten, Prien
am Chiemsee and Regensburg, just to
name a few.
Activities and events
Bavaria’s winter resorts have something for everyone and are not the
exclusive preserve of downhill skiers.
Cross country trails, sled runs, snowshoe hikes, racing down an ice canal on
the World Cup and World Champions’
track at Königsee or the Salttimejourney in Berchtesgaden are just a
taste of a wide range of activities. In
the course of time, prevailing climatic
and topographic conditions have
caused Bavaria’s skiing venues, such
as Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, Ruhpolding and Oberstdorf to
specialize in certain sporting disciplines.

Golfing around Lake Starnberg
When vacationing in the Lake Starnberg area, you will
find 12 golf courses within a vicinity of 25 km. Whether
guests are looking to stay at a simple pension or a luxury
hotel, service is always a huge priority as well as booking
requested tee times. Some of the challenging golf courses
are placed in the rolling moraine landscape of the Alpine
foothills. Gut Rieden offers a flat area for the first nine
holes, but then it gets hillier with well-placed bunkers and
water hazards which require strategy. In order to remain
focused, enjoy the splendid panorama over the Lake
Starnberg in the clubhouse afterwards. In Tutzing,
the course offers short distances from hole to hole and
fantastic views of Wetterstein- and Karwendelmassif and
their idyllic lakes and streams. The 18-hole championship
course of Iffeldorf spans a total of 104 acres next to the
Zugspitze. Here you can find wonderful nature with forests,
ancient oak trees, small lakes and biotopes. Last but not
least, the Golf Club Hohenpähl blends harmoniously on the
hill between Lake Starnberg and Ammersee. This Golf Club
is known for its sustainable handling with the scenic
landscape and has won several environmental awards.

Victory Hotel Therme Erding
In summer 2014, a new hotel will open that will take the
concept of a hotel to the next level in the Therme Erding.
Both, families as well as business travelers will be warmly
welcomed at the Victory Hotel Therme Erding. The legendary
sailing ship »Victory« of Admiral Lord Nelson and a real
Venetian palazzo were the inspiration for this extraordinary
hotel project: 138 rooms in two architecturally separated
areas. 111 rooms will be »on board« of the ship Victory and
27 will be in the Palazzo. The Victory Hotel Therme Erding
has six individually themed room categories between 29-50
square meters. On three »theme islands« the buffet
restaurant represents creative and fresh food variations
with »live cooking experience«. Whether having breakfast in
swimwear, working with the laptop on the balcony or just
enjoying the healing thermal water in Europe’s biggest spa
world: short distances, wonderful holiday scenery and a
relaxed atmosphere, are a real attraction
