MALDEMER FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER What a great start to the year, plenty of waves, twenty-four surfers, Baz behind the BBQ, Captain K with the refreshments and Ben with the trailer at the beach before the sun came up. Milsy and Mick had the heats up before most of us had woken up and the first heat on the way at 0724. The new judging system went well with everyone judging the heat two prior to there’s. Just a reminder to those competitors who want to have a free surf after they have judged or after their heat, while the comp is on please paddle up the beach away from all other competitors let everyone have a fair go at catching a few waves! For the first few heats the judges had a hard time spotting the surfers, let alone the colour of the rashies, especially those surfers that sat to the south in the sun. I know I missed a few photo opportunities after just seeing the surfers as they were in the white water nearly on the beach. Next month it might pay to just paddle down the beach a bit so you can be seen. Was a bit better later on once the sun eased up a bit and we saw some great surfing in some pretty nice waves. The final heat had some rippers! The MaldeMerians would like to welcome all our new members, there are quiet a few, and good to see a few old members that haven’t surfed with us for a few years back again. We had a few away as well so next month should see a big roll up. Anyway enough from me, well almost, I forgot to mention Brett in the last newsletter, every month Brett updates our website http://www.maldemer.org.au with newsletters, photos, when our next comp is and any other relevant info for our club. Mate from all of us your efforts are appreciated, it is a time consuming job that sometimes goes unnoticed, but is a big part of keeping the club members informed and interested on what is happening at Bonnys. Thanks mate! See you at the beach on the first Sunday in March. Cheers AB Happy Birthday Godfrey, we missed you! The first heat in the water, Brett with a win, Ben with an extra point for the sprint and well we missed Bill’s wave but he did win the raffle! And John surfed well with a borrowed board, don’t worry John we all break a board every now and then, I’m sure Jason will be over it soon! Jesse on his new logger took out the second heat, Greg Turner 2nd, Clarky 3rd and Rosco 4th Heat 3 Rob Mudge with a win, Steve Smallwood 2nd, Jessi Muir 3rd and AJ 4th Heat four AL 1st, Shannon 2nd, Captain K 3rd and Roger 4th only have shots of Al, the other three must have been surfing in the sun or the barrel! Heat five was the heat of the Mikes, with M Buckley 1st, M Richards 2nd, M Fowler 3rd and M Kennedy 4th Heat six was a cracker, I’m glad I didn’t have to judge this one! 1st was Dave Holmes, George Watt 2nd, Jeremy Drewitt 3rd and Graeme Brown 4th. With plenty of quality waves rolling through in the second round the heats were reduced to four of six surfers, was a good call as we were all suffering from the heat and needed some well earned sustenance! All the results of both rounds are listed on the next page, Thanks Bill! MAL DEMER MONTHLY COMPETITION R1 H1 R B. Turner 2 G B. Timmins 3 W B. Purcell 1 Y J. Newman 4 Bl Bk R1 H2 R G. Turner G J.
