Academically
• The Mocs tied a program record with 11
teams scoring a 3.0 g.p.a. in both the fall
and spring semesters in the 2012-13 academic year.
• 57 student-athletes earned degrees in
2012-13.
• 58 student-athletes named to the fall,
winter and spring Academic All-Southern
Conference Teams.
Athletically
• Four teams won SoCon titles in 201213 - women’s basketball, wrestling, men’s
golf and women’s golf.
• Six teams - women’s basketball, men’s
and women’s cross country, wrestling
and men’s and women’s golf competed in
postseason play.
• Individually, the Mocs had three AllAmericans, two SoCon Athletes of the
Year, one SoCon Tournament MVP, five
SoCon Champions, two SoCon Freshmen
of the Year and three SoCon Coaches of
the Year. Chattanooga also brought home
40 All-SoCon honors, while 23 studentathletes made various SoCon All-Freshmen teams. Men’s golfer Steven Fox won
the U.S. Amateur in August of 2012.
Socially
• The Mocs volunteered at numerous
community events throughout the year,
including National Volunteer Week, Special Olympics, FMSC MobilePack, Read
Across America and many more.
• The Mocs looked to expand their presence in the surrounding areas with Caravan trips to Birmingham, Atlanta and
Nashville. Not to forget their closest fans,
the student-athletes again took part in Operation Move-In, helping freshmen unload
into their dorms to begin the fall semester.
• Being engaged in the community can extend past volunteering. The Mocs created
a stir with a number of creative marketing
ideas, including the April Fools joke that
brought back the ‘Shoe’ mascot, the introduction of the mobile ticket van, the ‘Pac
the Mac’ promotion that sold out the wrestling match vs. Iowa and the annual ‘30
Minutes or Less’ promotion for football.

2012-13 Sport-by-Sport Recap
The 2012-13 athletics season at Chattanooga included four SoCon titles and
six postseason appearances. The Mocs had five individuals claim league
championships, and one SoCon Player of the Year. Chattanooga had three
SoCon Coach of the Year recipients, three athletic All-Americans and one
CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-American. Senior Steven Fox won the
2012 U.S. Amateur Championship and competed at the Master’s, U.S Open
and British Open.
Men’s Basketball (John Shulman, head coach) - 13-19, 8-10 SoCon North/5th
• Z. Mason earned All-SoCon mention (Media 3rd team) leading the squad
averaging 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
• Gee McGhee made the SoCon All-Freshman team with an impressive debut performance. He posted 12.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest while
leading UTC in minutes played (29.0 mpg). McGhee set school freshman
records for 3ptM (38), 3ptA (125), FTM (120), FTA (196) and minutes (927).
• The Mocs came back from an 18-point deficit with 6:30 to play to defeat
visiting Appalachian State on January 17, 2013. It was the largest comeback
of its kind in school history as Chattanooga scored on its final 13 possessions of the game.
• Will Wade was named the 18th head coach in school history on May 13, 2013.
Women’s Basketball (Wes Moore, head coach)
29-3, 19-1 SoCon/1st/Tournament Champions/NCAA 1st Round
• The Lady Mocs claimed their 12th SoCon title in 14 years and the 18th
overall for the program. UTC tied a school record with 29 wins.
• UTC advanced to its 11th NCAA Tournament, the ninth trip in 11 years.
Chattanooga entered NCAA Tournament on a 19-game winning streak.
• UTC is 26-0 at home over the last two seasons. The Lady Mocs set a school
record by averaging 2,550 fans per game at McKenzie Arena.
• Junior Ashlen Dewart was named SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding
Player. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by juniors Taylor Hall
and Alex Black.
• Head Coach Wes Moore was named the SoCon Coach of the Year while
Dewart, Hall and senior Kayla Christopher made the All-SoCon team. Tatianna
Jackson was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team.
• Chattanooga knocked off No. 20 Tennessee (80-71) at home on Nov. 9.

• Jim Foster was named the fifth head coach in program history on May 9,
2013. He took over for Wes Moore who moved on to N.C. State following
the season. Foster was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame
in June 2013.

• The women’s team had the 23rd highest g.p.a. in the nation and was named
All-Academic by the USTFCCCA. The Lady Mocs posted a team g.p.a. of 3.59.
Football (Russ Huesman, head coach) - 6-5, 5-3/T4th SoCon
• Chattanooga posted a winning record for the third time in the last four years.
• All four of UTC’s FCS losses came against ranked opponents.
• UTC was 10th in the nation and second in the SoCon in total defense, allowing just 308 yards per game.
• Sophomore Davis Tull was named the SoCon Defense Player of the Year.
He led the SoCon and set a UTC single-season record with 12.5 sacks.
• Freshman QB Jacob Huesman finished third in the voting for the Jerry Rice
Award for National Freshman of the Year.
• Tull was one of three All-Americans for the Mocs in 2012, joined by junior
linebacker Wes Dothard and sophomore TE Faysal Shafaat.
Men’s Golf (Mark Guhne, head coach) - 1st SoCon • T9th NCAA Regional
• Chattanooga won its second SoCon Championship in a row and fifth in the
last seven years while making its seventh straight NCAA Regional appearance.
• Steven Fox won the 2012 United States Amateur in August. It is the first
USGA title in the program’s history and among the greatest single moments
in the school’s annals.
• Fox and Chris Robb were named to the PING All-East Region and AllSoCon squads.
• Robb won the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate shooting nine-under par 207.
• Fox (Masters, Farmers Insurance Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Crowne
Plaza Invitational, Memorial, Fed Ex St. Jude Classic, U.S. Open and British
Open) and former All-American Stephan Jaeger (Puerto Rico Classic) saw
action on the PGA Tour in the spring/summer of 2013.
• The Mocs earned the Public Recognition Award for a top-10 percent multiyear APR score.
Women’s Golf (Colette Murray, head coach) - 1st SoCon • T19th NCAA Regional
• UTC won its fourth consecutive SoCon Championship as a team and third
in a row individually.
• Agathe Sauzon was SoCon medalist following Jordan Britt (2012) and Emma
de Groot (2011) in 2013. She won it in a playoff with Mary Chandler Bryan
(CofC) with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
• Sauzon, Britt and Emily McLennan were named All-SoCon, while McLennan
tallied league Freshman of the Year honors.
• Head Coach Colette Murray was tabbed SoCon Coach of the Year for the
third time.
Cross Country (Bill Gautier, head coach)
• The Mocs won twice in 2012-13 adding the Lady Paladin Invitational title

Softball (Frank Reed, head coach) - 26-28, 10-11 SoCon/6th
• Senior Sara Poteat was selected to the Capitol One Academic All-District
First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. It was her
second time named to the District Three Team, her first coming in 2012, and
it is the third season in a row a Lady Moc has been recognized by CoSIDA.
• Senior Sara Poteat and sophomore Sarah Beth Roberts were named Second Team All-SoCon while freshman Sam Taylor recieved a spot on both
the Second Team and Freshman Team. Anyssa Robles was named to the
Freshman Team.
• Sophomore pitcher Taylor Deason posted a 16-12 record as the aces of
the Lady Mocs staff, garnering 15+ wins for a second consecutive season.
• Freshman Sam Taylor laced together a 15-game hitting streak, upping her
average to .333 in her first collegiate season.
Men’s Tennis (Carlos Garcia, head coach) - 12-9, 6-4 SoCon/5th
• Mocs posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 2007
and 2008 seasons.
• UTC scored its first winning season in league play since 2007.
• The Mocs advanced to the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament for the first
time since 2007.
• Senior Manuel Barroetavena earned first team All-SoCon honors in singles.
• Seniors Roverto Vieira and Ankit Chopra earned second team All-SoCon
honors in doubles play.
Women’s Tennis (Jeff Clark, head coach) - 18-5, 6-4 SoCon/6th
• The Lady Mocs 18 wins are the most for the program since 1991.
• Senior Jenna Nurik became the first four-time All-SoCon honoree, earning
first team honors for the third time.
• Freshman Kelsey Coots was a second team All-SoCon selection.
• Coots and Kayla Jones both earned spots on the SoCon All-Freshman team.
• Nurik earned CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District recognition.
• Nurik was named the regional winner of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership
and Sportsmanship Award.
• The Lady Mocs earned the ITA Team Academic Award.

• Wanuch ranked in NCAA South Region in 3000 meter Steeplechase.
• The men posted the third highest team g.p.a. (3.51) in the nation while the
women were 31st (3.41).
Volleyball (Travis Filar, head coach) - 14-18, 8-9 SoCon/3rd North
• Senior Christina Teter was named a Capitol One All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Teter is the first All-American
in Mocs volleyball program history.
• Senior Paula Passmore was named SoCon Libero of the Year for the second
time in her career. Passmore collected a career-best 757 digs in 2012 and
moved into second All-Time in program history with 2389 career digs. Her 6.38
digs per set ranked second in the NCAA at the close of the regular season.
• Freshman Briana Reid was named to the SoCon Freshman Team, amassing
234 kills and averaging 2.34 kills per set during her first season with the Mocs.
The freshman recorded six double-doubles on the season.
Wrestling (Heath Eslinger, head coach) - 11-6, 7-0 SoCon/1st • T55th NCAAs
• The Mocs won their 27th Southern Conference title while sweeping both the
regular season and tournament crowns.
• UTC sent five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships and tied for 55th overall.
• Head Coach Heath Eslinger was named the SoCon Coach of the Year for
the second time in his four-year career.
• Sophomore Nick Soto (125) moved down to 125 and won his second
SoCon title.
• Senior Dean Pavlou (141) made his third appearance at the NCAAs, his
first at 141 pounds.
• Junior Alex Hudson (149) won the SoCon title at 149.
• Senior Josh Condon (165) was 6-0 in SoCon matches with five pins. He won
the SoCon title at 165, the second league crown of his career.
• Senior Niko Brown (197) went 15-0 in dual matches with a team-high nine
pins. He won his first SoCon title at 197.
• The Mocs set a new attendance record for home events in 2012-13,
averaging 1,261 fans per home event.

member or volunteer of the Athletics
Department. Selection criteria is as
follows: student-athletes must have
completed their eligibility, a minimum of five years prior to becoming eligible for induction, must have
outstanding athletic achievements
or made a significant contribution to
the program in a supporting role and
must be a person worthy of the distinction of becoming a member of the
UTC Athletics Hall of Fame.

the media. Spouses, dates, children and other
nonworkers are not permitted in the press box

for pickup on gameday at the Will Call window at
Finley Stadium. Will Call is located at the front of

The radio broadcast team of Jim
Reynolds and Todd Agne, together
for their 17th season of Mocs’ Football, will bring fans all 12 regularseason games.
Reynolds is the Dean of Southern Conference broadcasters. His expertise is play-by-play announcing, and he returns for his 34th season behind
the microphone at Chattanooga football games.
The Chicago native is one of the hosts of the city’s popular radio talk
show, “The Morning Press,” on WGOW 102.3 FM. After receiving his
bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications in 1977 from Illinois State,
he began his career at WAKC-AM Radio in Bloomington, Ill., where he
served as the play-by-play announcer for the Illinois Wesleyan football and
basketball teams. He also worked at Bloomington station WRBA where he
did some play-by-play for Illinois State football and basketball.
Reynolds also spent time as the play-by-play announcer for the University of Illinois basketball team while working with BRO-MAR Sports
Network in Chicago. Currently, he is
also the play-by-play voice for Mocs
basketball games.
Agne joins Reynolds to add color
analysis, features and commentary,
and a national scoreboard update to
the broadcast. Agne, who attended
Marshall University, has spent parts of
the past 26 years covering Southern
Conference athletics for radio, print
and television in four different media
markets. He enters his 17th season
with the football broadcast team.
