2011 – (ne)prezraď svoje tajomstvo, 2012 – vina/nevina, 2013 – Očistení? Na Medzinárodnom
festivale Divadelná Nitra pokračuje sledovanie závažných spoločensko-politických javov. Tam,
kde sa pretínajú s privátnymi osudmi, vzniká dráma. V ohni konfliktov sa číria charaktery,
vyjavuje sa pravda o ľudských činoch a pohnútkach. Očistiť svoje meno, povesť, myseľ,
svedomie, pamäť. Očistiť sa od obvinenia, od hriechu, od nánosov lží, fráz a klišé. Očistiť sa
prostredníctvom reflexie minulosti, hľadania pravdy, prejavenia ľútosti, spovede, ticha. Očista
jednotlivca i spoločnosti. Existuje vôbec spôsob ako sa očistiť, zbaviť viny? Aké rôzne koncepty
očistenia ponúka dnešný svet a naša kresťansko-židovská tradícia? Môže umenie / divadlo
ešte stále vyzbrojené fenoménom katarzie prispieť k očisteniu človeka / sveta?
2011 – (don’t) tell your secret, 2012 – guilt/innocence, 2013 – Purged? The International
Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra continues in its search for serious social and political affairs.
Once they cross with private lives, drama appears. The fire of conflicts clarifies the characters
and the truth about people’s deeds and motivations comes to the surface. To purge one’s name,
reputation, mind, consciousness, memory. To purge oneself from accusation, sin, layers of lies,
claptrap, cliché. To purge oneself through reflecting the past, searching for truth, showing
regret, through confession and silence. The purification of an individual as well as the society.
Is there a way how one can purge oneself, get rid of guilt? What are the different concepts of
purification offered by the present world and our Christian-Jewish tradition? Can art/theatre
which is still equipped with the phenomenon of catharsis contribute to the purification of
man/world?
Nitra they will be regularly presented in their home theatre houses. In addition, there will
be a mini-festival in six participating countries in 2014 as part of the project. Reader PLL
will publish 30 stories of parallel lives. The accompanying programme Parallel PLUS will
introduce documentary and feature films in the section Cinema plus, radio plays, discussions
with the artists, happenings, exhibitions and public debate with experts.

20. storočie sa vzďaľuje, stále rýchlejšie. Aj so svojimi spoločenskými traumami, osobnými
tragédiami a otvorenými kauzami. Svedkov a účastníkov udalostí je čoraz menej. Je načase
zachytiť posledné svedectvá. Je načase vysporiadať sa s minulosťou. Jednou z najtemnejších
kapitol dejín je činnosť tajných polícií za bývalého socializmu, ale najmä jej dosah na konanie,
morálku a životy ľudí. Špehovať vlastných spolupracovníkov, susedov, rodinu, udávať ich polícii,
stavať sa chrbtom k tým, ktorí sú označení za podozrivých, nechať sa vydierať, zaprieť pravdu
i presvedčenie, stratiť česť i život. A zabúdať – na obete, ale najmä na vinníkov. Čoho všetkého
je človek schopný pod tlakom moci? A ako dlho trvá spoločnosti, než sa s takýmito bolestnými
etapami vyrovná? Ako by sme sa v takých situáciách správali my dnes?
Paralelné životy – 20. storočie očami tajnej polície. Viacročný projekt iniciovaný Medzinárodným
festivalom Divadelná Nitra. Časť hlavného programu festivalu 2013 tvorí
6 medzinárodných premiér inscenácií z Českej republiky, Maďarska, Nemecka, Poľska,
Rumunska a Slovenska, ktoré vznikli na základe výskumu v archívoch tajných polícií. Inscenácie
sa po Divadelnej Nitre budú hrávať aj v domovských divadlách a v rámci projektu sa v roku 2014
v šiestich zúčastnených krajinách uskutoční minifestival. Reader PLL uverejní 30 príbehov
paralelných životov. Sprievodný program Parallel PLUS uvedie dokumentárne i hrané filmy
v sekcii Kino Plus, odposluchy rozhlasových hier, diskusie s tvorcami, happeningy, výstavy,
verejnú debatu s odborníkmi.
The 20 century is increasingly drawing apart. Together with its social traumas, personal
tragedies and unresolved causes. But the number of witnesses and participants of the events
keeps decreasing. It’s high time to record the last evidence. It’s high time to settle the bill with the
past. One of the darkest chapters in the history is the activity of secret police in former socialism
and mainly its impact on people’s conduct, morality and lives. To spy on one’s own colleagues,
neighbours, family and denounce them to the police. To turn one’s back on those who have been
labelled as suspicious. To let oneself be blackmailed, deny the truth and one’s conviction. To loose
one’s honour and even life. And forget – the victims but mainly the culprits. How far can man go
when he is oppressed by power? And how long will it take for the society to come to terms with
such painful stages? How would we today behave in such situations?

Parallel lives – the 20th Century through the Eyes of secret Police
A long-term project initiated by the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra. Part of
the main programme at the festival in 2013 is made of 6 international premieres of
productions from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia that
appeared as a result of the research of secret police archives. Following the festival Divadelná

Originálny nápad, vtipná realizácia. Útržky ľudskej reči očistenej od zmyslu a povýšenej na
hudbu. Od videí na YouTube cez skúšku mikrofónu na Occupy Wall Street až po džavotanie
dvojročných detí. K angličtine, francúzštine, španielčine, ruštine a čínštine pribudne aj slovenčina. A k jedenástim členom francúzskeho hereckého zboru rovnaký počet účinkujúcich
z Nitry a okolia. Naozaj zábavné...

An original idea, a witty interpretation. Snatches of human speech purified of meaning and
elevated to music. Starting with the video in YouTube to the microphone test in Occupy Wall
Street and the jabber of two year olds. Slovak will be added to English, French, Spanish,
Russian and Chinese. Similarly, the eleven member French actors´ team will be extended by
the same number of guests from Nitra and the environs. Really entertaining...

The winter of 1949/1950 – the story of the priest Josef Toufar tortured to death. In his original
documentary opera, that came to being within the Divadelná Nitra project parallel lives, Aleš
Březina studies the power struggle by institutions and asks questions about the essence of
human belief, truth and miracle. Directed by Petr Zelenka, well known from the Czech drama
and film, played by a cast headed by the legendary Soňa Červená and originated in the
National Theatre Opera in Prague – the production promises a unique experience.

„Nebudeme už ďalej znášať nespravodlivosť v tejto krajine!“ „Slobodu! Chceme, aby boli rešpektované ľudské práva!“ Autorom nápisov na múroch, ktoré sa zjavili v malom rumunskom
meste v roku 1981, bol len šestnásťročný chlapec. Inscenácia Gianiny Cărbunariu sleduje napínavý príbeh mladého hrdinu, „streetartového umelca“, od ktorého sa pod nátlakom tajnej polície Securitate postupne odvrátilo celé jeho okolie a ktorý nemohol skončiť inak ako tragicky.
Unwanted heRo
“No longer are we going to suffer injustice in this country!” “Freedom! We demand human
rights to be respected!” The author of these inscriptions on the walls which appeared in
a small Romanian town in 1981 was just a sixteen year old boy. The production by Gianina
Cărbunariu follows the dramatic story of the young hero, “a street artist” who was, one by
one, deserted by his neighbours following the intimidation by the secret police Securitate
and who could have not ended his life but tragically.

Inšpirovaní dodnes neobjasneným prípadom podivnej smrti dvojitého agenta a kňaza
Coufala v roku 1981 sa autori najnovšej inscenácie divadla SkRAT zaoberajú mechanizmami,
ktoré v rámci tajnej polície ŠtB umožňovali budovanie paralelnej mocenskej štruktúry
a vzájomnú kontrolu jednotlivých zamestnancov a spolupracovníkov na všetkých úrovniach
tejto organizácie. Mechanizmami, ktoré môžu fungovať aj po zániku ŠtB.

Inspired by the hitherto unclarified case of the strange death by double agent, priest
Coufal in 1981, the authors of the latest production at the SkRAT Theatre are studying
the mechanisms which enabled, within the secret police ŠtB, the building up of a parallel
power structure and mutual checking of individual members of staff including colleagues
at all levels of this organisation. Mechanisms which could be functional even after the
dissolution of the ŠtB.

Legenda o kniežati Modrofúzovi v spracovaní jednej z najznámejších nemeckých dramatičiek
Dey Loher. Inscenácia Mestského divadla Žilina vytvára zvláštnu snovú atmosféru, ktorá je
vynikajúcim podkladom pre ponorenie sa do jemnej psychológie postáv so snahou nevysvetľovať. Tak sa vraždy lásky stávajú vykúpením z nemožnosti naplniť ju.

The legend of Count Bluebeard in the handling of one of the most famous German
playwrights Dea Loher. The production by the City Theatre Žilina creates a special dreamy
ambience which provides an excellent basis for the penetration into the fine psychology of
the figures with an attempt not to explain. In that way love murders become a salvation from
the inability to fulfil it.

He, a former dissident, quite unknown today. She, a stripper, willing to listen to ancient
heroes, if they pay – similarly as a theatre audience. The production of Follow Me by a pair of
young authors Kireńczuk – Rychcik is mixing pathos and grotesqueness, theses and secrets,
issues about the sense of believing in the dominance and loss of one’s own life. Parallel lives
slightly differently...

Deväť mužov a žien z Drážďan si vybral režisér Clemens Bechtel pre svoju „spoveď“, ktorá

ocitnú prenasledovaní aj agent tajnej polície Stazi. Obdivuhodná odvaha a úprimnosť, s ktorou nám títo ľudia cez príbehy svojho života pripomínajú doby nedávno minulé. Očisťujú sami
seba alebo nás všetkých?

Nine men and women from Dresden have been selected by the director Clemens Bechtel for
his “confession” which appears within the project of parallel lives. Maybe for the first time
ever the stage will host both the proscribed and Stazi secret police agents publicly standing
next to each other. Via their life stories these people showing remarkable courage and
honesty remind us of the times not so long ago. Are they purging themselves or us all?

Po dlhom čase opäť Blaho Uhlár a legendárna Stoka. Vlastne dnes už S.T.O.K.A. Neistota „gruntu“ je neistotou bytostnou, tou, ktorá formuluje slová o hľadaní novej pevnej pôdy pod nohami. Výpoveď o nekonečnej banalite, agresii, bezmocnosti, samovražde a mnohom ďalšom.

svojho otca. Nevyriešené traumy minulosti v grotesknej podobe antickej viny na „náš“ spôsob
v neočakávanej sile a jednoznačnosti. Ďalšia z cyklu inscenácií Divadla Aréna, ktoré obnovujú
pamäť národa a rozbíjajú pokojnú apatiu prítomnosti.

A young woman of a family of exiles from many years ago comes to Slovakia to restitute her
father‘s property. Unresolved past traumas in the grotesque form of the classical guilt are
presented “our way” with unforeseen strength and expliciteness. A further production from
the series of the Aréna Theatre which revives the nation’s memory and disrupt the peaceful
lethargy of the present.

25 671 – to je počet ľudí, ktorí boli po skončení prvej etapy občianskej vojny a vzniku samostatného Slovinska v roku 1992 vymazaní z registra občanov a stratili všetky práva.
Inscenácia mrazí obžalobou nedávnej minulosti bývalej Juhoslávie a otázkami týkajúcimi
sa osobnej a politickej zodpovednosti.

25 671 – is the number of people who have been wiped out from the register of citizens
and lost all their rights after the end of first part of the civil war and the establishment of
independent Slovenia in 1992. The production is a chilling accusation from the recent past
of former Yugoslavia and asks questions related to personal and political responsibility.

Päť zvláštnych postáv tajuplnej drámy rakúskej spisovateľky a nositeľky Nobelovej ceny Elfriede Jelinek spomína na udalosti hrôzostrašnej noci plnej orgií fašistických pohlavárov na konci
II. svetovej vojny. Formálne i tematicky mimoriadne netradičná inscenácia kladie hraničné
a podstatné otázky a vzbudzuje hraničné a nečakané emócie.

Five strange figures in the mysterious drama by the Austrian playwright and Nobel Prize
winner Elfriede Jelinek remember the events of a night filled with horror and orgies
