GRANITE CITY ELKS LODGE 1063 GRANITE CITY, IL JUNE 9, 2014 Dear Members One and All, Same news different month. Our Lodge is in need of money making functions. The House Committee has been steadily filling the calendar with bands and activities. We are trying a new approach at entertainment. Check out the Summer Concert Series on our informational web page. WWW.gcelks.org. Individuals have been contributing to Lodge activities, as well. Jesse Norman put together the Mother's Day Country Breakfast. With good help in the kitchen, he had a very successful and profitable function with great attendance. Making over a $500.00 profit in less than 4 hours; GOOD JOB JESSE! Larry Hahne spearheaded a chicken and beer dance. With the original band canceling at 1:30 the day of, he scrambled and found a replacement. Even with low attendance, the event still managed to cover the cost and put $250 in the bank. Larry also contributed $15 he earned dancing on the back bar (GOOD TIMES). I have not yet assessed the cost of repairing the back bar (HA HA). If you missed that party, you missed a PARTY. On to more solemn issues. Our Lodge is in desperate need of some costly repairs. The parking lot is in serious disrepair. It needs to be resurfaced. The lowest bid is over $10,000. The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) unit in the rear of the lodge is broken. The unit's gas was turned off to eliminate any chance of carbon monoxide (CO2) contamination to the lodge interior. The unit needs to be repaired by September at a cost of approx. $13,000. Myself and the House Committee are up to any beneficial suggestions that would bring you and more people in to participate in Lodge activities. All ideas can be given to myself, a House Committee member, or sent to events@gcelks.org. Membership participation is paramount to the success of Granite City Elks Lodge 1063; our Lodge. Humbly Yours, Chris Norman, ER HOUSE COMMITTEE BITS AND PIECES I want to apologize to the membership for the latency regarding the Newsletter. It was the House Committee's intention to put the Newsletter out before our June 1st deadline, but ran into a few snafus regarding Publishing Software. This issue will be without advertisements due to not having the materials required to scan them onto a computer and paste them to the newsletter. The GOOD NEWS: As the E.R. mentioned, our House Committee is working hard to put fundraisers and entertainment together. We would like your input regarding new ideas to help fundraise. Your suggestions are very important to us and hope to hear from you soon. The Elks Mouse Races are June 21, 2014 at 7pm. We have Mouse Sponsors available for $25 (1 mouse) or $50 (6 mice). Both include 2 free tickets. Silent auction baskets and items are always welcome. Respectfully submittted, Chris Hartman House Committee Chairman Elkettes News The Elkettes' Mother and Daughter Banquet was a huge success with thanks to our new President, Louise Ware and Vice President, Leslie Verschuyl. The Elks served a delicious dinner of strip steak, baked potato and salad. We were entertained with dinner music and by Michael the Magician who held us all in awe. Centerpieces of a variety of garden flowers in attractive containers adorned the table and were awarded to the oldest person seated at that particular table. We were all saddened by the news that one of our old time members, Thelma Simmons had passed away. A memorial in her honor will be given to the Elks Lodge. Just a reminder! There will be no Elkette meetings in June, July or August. We will meet again on the lst Tuesday in September with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Have a nice summer.
