We’ve had girls come to us after losing a couple hundred dollars on a poorly made replica.” Once a bride has chosen the perfect gown, it is on to the seamstress to perform any necessary alterations. Most seamstresses will walk the bride through what they feel should be altered during the first fitting, and do several consultations before the wedding to ensure the perfect fit on the big day. Kim Miller of The Wedding Bell shares her inside secrets to finding that perfect dress The daunting task of finding that perfect wedding dress can be overwhelming for many, but with a few tips from The Wedding Bell owner Kim Miller it can be a fun, stressfree experience. The most important tip to remember for many brides is to keep an open mind when shopping around. Although many women have a specific style in mind, being willing to try on a variety of styles can often uncover the perfect dress. “Our consultants are trained to pull dresses that are as close to what the bride wants as possible, while also presenting a couple others that are based on body type, style and the bride’s personality,” Miller said. “The most important thing to remember is to just be open to trying on a variety of dresses.” The Wedding Bell offers 90-minute fittings, and allows brides to make additional appointments as necessary. However, be cautioned: endless shopping can often be counterproductive and overwhelming to many brides. “If 90 minutes is not enough time, brides can always make another appointment, but if too much time is spent trying on dresses many people only get confused because they’ve just seen too much. Most of the time you can make quite a bit of progress in 90 minutes.” Although dress costs can vary tremendously depending on which type of fabric is used, brides planning less formal weddings can always ask for bridesmaid dresses in white or ivory, which can save money without sacrificing style or quality. However, one of the biggest warning signs a bride should look out for: if the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is. One of the most unfortunate and widespread scams in the wedding industry today stems from low-cost overseas websites offering designer replicas for low prices. “It is so important today to make sure you’re working with an authorized representative for the line,” Miller says. “There are many websites out there that steal photos from designers and sell $1,200 gowns for only You and One Guest are Invited to join us Sunday September 12, 2010 1:00-4:00 p.m. Complimentary Bridal Tasting Honoring all 2011 Brides RSVP to Cindy Stortini CSTORTINI JOESEPPISRISTORANTECOMs .0EARL3Ts4ACOMA7! Miller warns against hanging a dress in a garment bag, but says many bridal shops offer preservation and storage services for safekeeping after the big day has long passed. “We use a company that thoroughly cleans the dress, packs it into a keepsake box, removing all oxygen to ensure it lasts,” Miller says. This important step can ensure the wedding gown lasts just as long as the memories of the big day will. The Wedding Bell is located at 2914 6th Ave., (253) 759-2513. Tricep kickbacks Some might say planning a wedding is a workout in itself, but to look your best on the big day, many brides-to-be turn to expensive workout systems and long-term gym memberships. However, some of the best-kept secrets to looking fabulous may be in your own living room, according to Jillian Michaels of “The Biggest Loser.” All you need for many of her intense exercises are 3-pound weights, a floor mat and a little determination. Here are a few key exercises designed by TV’s kick-butt personal trainer. 1. Lunges with shoulder raises Stand, legs bent and feet shoulder-width apart. People need to take into account that this is an important job.” Advancing technology has been perhaps one of the most significant hurdles to overcome for many DJs, but Hollis is determined to set the record straight – that his job extends far beyond simply hitting the play button. “Many people really do think that all they need is an iPod and a set of speakers,” he says. “They often don’t take into account that it’s about much more than playing music. It’s about creating an experience and making the day run smoothly.” The wedding industry is changing faster than ever before, and as technology continues to advance, many wedding parties are turning to their iPods to provide the tunes, often eschewing traditional DJ services. However, George Hollis of Gotta Dance Productions says hiring DJ services from a company like his is a priceless investment that adds more value to an event than many people may realize. In recent years, he’s noticed some clients are beginning to realize the importance of hiring a DJ, and are becoming less likely to hire based on price and price alone. “People want to hire someone who can read the crowd, and they want to make sure the DJ isn’t going to play a hit song 40 times just because the crowd likes it,” Hollis says. “Many brides want to see a video of the DJ, talk to other clients they’ve worked with and make sure the person is professional and skilled.” “Some people do opt not to have an emcee or DJ at their wedding, but it’s important to have someone in this role who is not a part of the actual event, because they may not have the experience to know that certain things need to happen at certain times during a wedding,” Hollis says. “The wedding Hollis is as experienced as it gets -- he started in the business in 1991, and developed Gotta Dance Productions in 2004. “I got into this business because I love it,” he says. “Even though technology is creating some challenges, I think DJs out there just need to be smarter and quicker with answers The best wedding gift you can receive is a complementary Home Buyer Evaluation. A wedding table centerpiece might mix pink stock, larkspur and lisianthus with hot pink and light pink roses. Purple Wedding Flowers Purple flowers are whimsical and unique.
