The role of the prosecutor’s office in the criminal justice
system has traditionally begun after a crime has
occurred. In an effort to work more closely with the
community, the State’s Attorney’s Office has opened four
Community Justice Centers in Cook County.
The Community Justice Centers provide many
resources for area residents such as informational
seminars and workshops, assistance with court
information, attendance and participation at local
community meetings, and working with schools to
conduct youth prevention programs.
Each of the centers also has prosecutors from our
Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions Unit.
These assistant state’s attorneys work closely with
business groups and neighborhood organizations on
mortgage fraud complaints and investigations.
With the opening of these offices, we hope to repair the
trust that has been lost in recent years between law
enforcement and the citizens we serve.

Staff
The popularity and success of community policing
initiatives across the country have made it clear that a
new direction is also necessary from a prosecutor’s
perspective.
The staff at each CJC office is dedicated to working
with community residents and stakeholders to help
create safer neighborhoods and a better standard of
living.
Each Community Justice Center office is staffed with
experienced members from the Cook County State’s
Attorney’s Office. The Assistant State’s Attorneys
(ASA) assigned to the centers will work on cases
close to the community, personally prosecuting them
and seeing them through to disposition.
Prosecutor’s offices have found that they become
more effective in the community when they not only
prosecute criminals, but also work to prevent crime.
A Felony ASA will work with police early on in
cases of violent crimes.
Swift and purposeful intervention by prosecutors,
working with local police and other community
partners, can result in a meaningful reduction in crime
and a better quality of life for residents.
A Misdemeanor ASA will focus on quality of life
cases, such as vandalism, prostitution and
trespassing.
A Mortgage Fraud Specialist, an ASA from the
Mortgage Fraud Investigations and Prosecutions
Unit, will concentrate efforts on investigating and
prosecuting cases involving mortgage fraud.
In addition to prosecuting crimes in the community,
some of the other services provided by CJC offices
include:
Conducting workshops and seminars on
current crime and safety issues.
The State’s Attorney’s Office has a three-tiered
approach employed by the community justice
centers:
Working with schools on conducting
prevention programs for students.
A Community Liaison will communicate with
local police, schools, community groups and
organizations, insuring concerns are being
addressed in a timely manner.
An Administrative Assistant will manage the dayto-day office operations.

and assistance to residents on a variety of
