After graduating from high school, Derek attended Winona State University, where he fulfilled pre-requisites for admission into veterinary school. From Winona, Derek continued his education at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, from which he graduated with his doctorate degree in 1998. Derek spent the next 8 years practicing veterinary medicine in Minnesota and Wisconsin, with the majority of Derek’s practice dedicated to dairy industry. Derek moved to Jonesboro in January 2006, and took this opportunity to switch careers, starting Quality Homebuilders of NEA. It was a logical career choice as Derek spent his college years in the construction industry to help offset tuition and other school expenses.
