A letter from the Chairman of the Board
Ross Riddle
I’d like to remind all of you that the NEXT GEN MEETING is August 19 th-21st, and will be
held in Portland, Oregon. (Registration is due by July 10th) We have some great speakers
planned along with a tour of CertainTeed’s roofing plant, and a tour of Dealers Supply new
“state of the art” facility. For those companies who already have people on board with this, I
don’t need to tout the benefits, as undoubtedly you are already seeing the rewards of the seeds
that you sowed. For those of you who haven’t taken advantage of this program, I would highly
encourage you to do so. It’s an inexpensive way to help train your key people, to let them
know you care by investing in educating them, and to help foster new relationships with other
NEXT GEN folks from within our great co-op. I urge you to commit to sending someone from
your organization, as I know you’ll be glad you did. Don’t say you don’t have enough time.
You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, Albert Einstein, etc. Remember, our big competitors are constantly training their key employees. Don’t make it easier for
them to compete with us! Don’t wait until it’s too late.
On another topic, I’m wondering how many of you are leveraging the fact that as members of
NEMEON, even though we may compete with each other in the same market, we can still
work together. We can do this by splitting truckloads of slower moving products, by filling in
inventory from fellow members rather than buying full T/L’s from the manufacturer, or even
referring a fellow NEMEON member to one of your customers if it’s an item you don’t have,
thus perhaps saving that customer from going to a national competitor. Of course none of us
want to lose an order, but if I’m in that position I’d much rather choose to whom I’m going to
lose the order to than not. I’m sure many of you already have these types of deals worked out
with fellow members. Just “food for thought”, that’s all. Anything we can do to keep the business with the Independent Distributors, and out of the hands of the national competitors.
Finally, I want to mention our new Vice President, Vic Anthony. He’s coming on board the
middle of June, and I’m sure you all will be very happy with the choice the Board has made.
He comes to us with a background that will compliment that of Dave’s, and we expect great
things from the new team. I know Dave O’Donnell will be making an announcement to all
members, so I don’t want to steal Dave’s thunder, but felt it necessary to let everyone know
that our management team is now complete and ready to help move our organization to the
next level. This is truly an exciting time in NEMEON’s history. I’m truly pleased to be a part
of this transition. We’ve indeed come a long way in the short time since our founding in 1999.
We should all be proud to be members in good standing of the leading co-op in the roofing and
siding industry.

As I prepare to write this newsletter article I am thinking about all of the different topics
that I can touch on and it becomes clear to me that we do so many things for many different types of members. Due to the on-going and growing success we were experiencing as a group we added a Vice President four years ago. It was becoming increasingly
difficult for just one person to manage all of the different programs that are available to
our members. Also, with additional help on board the management at NEMEON was
able to look for and work on new areas of opportunity for our members. Needless to
say the last six months without a VP have been an extremely busy time for me, but it
has also been a very enjoyable adventure; an adventure that I will now share with our
newest staff addition.
By now I am sure that all of you have seen the announcement that NEMEON has added
Vic Anthony to our team. Vic comes to NEMEON with over 31 years of experience in
the roofing industry and has taken on the role of Vice President. He started his career
with WR Grace Company holding positions in Sales, Sales Management and also working in their marketing department. From there Vic moved to GAF where he worked in
sales management, marketing and ending up as the Vice President of Commercial Roofing. Vic brings a wealth of knowledge in sales, marketing, training, education, sales
management, distribution, and has an intimate knowledge of what is important to the
NEMEON family, whether it be members or preferred vendors. You all will be hearing a
lot from Vic in the near future and I want to give him a warm welcome from all of us.
Vic will be a great addition to a very dedicated team. Everyone here at NEMEON has
been working very hard on your behalf on many different fronts. I would like to touch
on just a few of the initiatives that we are involved in at the moment. One of our many
goals is working closely with our preferred vendors to increase their business by shifting
the share. All members are encouraged to look to a NEMEON preferred vendor in every
category where they do business. As most of you know we feel so strongly about supporting our preferred vendors that every year at our annual meeting we recognize the
members who have shown the most dedication to this mission through the Reach for
the Stars program. The addition of the member standards is also helping to promote
adding new preferred vendor relationships throughout this year and beyond.
LionGUARD University is another program that is starting to grow; it is an online training
program geared to our members inside and outside salespeople that is based on the
premise “you sell what you know”. The member to member business forum is taking
shape as well; look for a forum to be added to the national meeting in Puerto Rico. Our
“Buy Local” national advertising campaign accentuating the owner to owner relationship is helping our members solidify relationships all across the country. The Next Gen
group is full of great ideas and is preparing some specific initiatives to present to the
board of directors. The strategic plan that was developed by the board with direct input
from all the members is the driving force behind all of the exciting programs and initiatives that the NEMEON team has been working on.
I could keep talking about the many great things that we are working on for our members and vendors but I am only allotted a specific amount of space in the newsletter.
With our busy season upon us and business on the increase I wanted to thank all of our
members and vendors for their support of NEMEON and its goals. In addition I wanted
to once again welcome Vic Anthony to the NEMEON team; all of us are looking forward
to working with you and are excited for what lies ahead for all of us.

Dave O’Donnell, NEMEON President and CEO, on behalf of the Board of Directors has named
Victor Anthony as Vice President. Victor Anthony, a long-time and well-regarded commercial
roofing executive formerly with GAF Corp., has joined NEMEON as vice president.
“I take great pride in announcing that Vic has joined our senior management team,” said
O’Donnell. “Vic has worked in the roofing industry for more than 30 years and already
knows many of our members. His successful career in sales and marketing, as well as his outstanding reputation in product training for distributors and contractors, brings great depth to
our professional staff.”
Anthony, who retired in 2012 from GAF as vice president of commercial roofing, agreed to
set aside his retirement for the opportunity to work for NEMEON. “Working for NEMEON
allows me to focus on areas in the roofing industry that I enjoy most,” said Anthony. “I have
always found it rewarding to work alongside business owners and help them grow their sales
and staff by developing sales programs, branding strategy and product training designed specifically for their company and their culture”. “NEMEON has some of our industry’s most
innovative distributors. My goal is to assist these hard-working business owners and managers to take their business to the next level with increased sales and profits and better trained
and prepared employees.”
Anthony worked at GAF Corp. in a variety of sales management positions, the last five years
as vice president of commercial roofing. He began his career at the company in 1982 in marketing and held several regional sales management positions before being chosen to head up
GAF’s commercial sales in 2005.
Prior to GAF, Anthony worked in sales and management at WR Grace Construction Products
Division for eight years.
Anthony’s involvements with the roofing industry trade associations are numerous. These
include serving as a board member of the NRCA Alliance for Progress and as a member of the
NRCA ROOFPAC.

Crossroads
Roofing & Supply
Congratulations
on your
Grand Opening!
This is our 15th year of serving Oklahomans! We have added our
3rd location in the state, in the community of Enid, Oklahoma. Enid is
The Home of Vance Air Force Base, and a central hub for many large
oil and gas companies and their supporting industries. Enid is currently the 9th largest population city in Oklahoma. Keeping the three
locations in just under an 1 ½ hour triangle gives us the added reach
that we were missing.
Our office is a 3,600 sq. ft.
building of which we have
made 1,000 sq. ft. the customer’s showroom, displaying
our many different roofing
products and accessories. Along with the 4 acres, several
outbuildings to handle the different products inventoried
and available for distribution.
No matter how unstable, out of control, or crazy the weather
gets here in Oklahoma, (and it seems like lately we have had
it all) we believe that the “ slow and steady” growth will continue to keep us competitive, so we can remain" The Largest
Independent Oklahoma owned Roofing Supply Dealer/
Distributor" in the great state of Oklahoma!
Congratulations
on your new
locations!

NEMEON LionGUARD U was launched in February 2013 as a platform to bring cost
effective Preferred Vendor Training to our Members. Historically, training has been
done by suppliers in a “face to face” environment which means that Suppliers and
Member Distributors have to travel to conduct or attend training. Distributor sales
people travel to a Suppliers location for a 1 or 2 day training session, or Suppliers and
sales reps or regional managers to the Distributors’ location to conduct hands on
training. Although this training is effective, it is expensive and timing can be an issue
with the continual introduction of new products/applications. Ultimately Suppliers
need to get their customers trained and up to date on their offering without “waiting to
train” due to busy calendars. LionGUARD U allows Suppliers to post training modules
(new products, repair training, safety training) allowing Member Distributor Salesperson training online 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Each module includes a quiz to
insure students understand and can apply the training on future sales call.
LionGUARD U has turned out to be a very cost effective training method, with the average cost per student trained at under $10 per student! Typical hands on training
runs $50 to $250 per student.
As of December 1st, LionGUARD University has almost 700 distributor member students taking courses and that number is constantly growing. There are more than ten
courses available for students and many suppliers preparing to offer their first course
to the member community.
