Ubud
Ubud is already wellknown for couple who look for
tranquility for their honeymoon. It is a remarkable town in the
middle of the island of Bali. This region is steeped in history and
culture. Many remains from the old kingdoms of Bali can be found
here, and unique arts and crafts are just waiting to be discovered.
Ubud is surrounded by most of the things that bring people to Bali. In
this town, you can visit the temples and villages that have remained
relatively unchanged through the years. For more than a century, it
has been the island's preeminent centre for fine arts, dance and music.
Ubud offers several natural retreats. The lush, green views and cool
atmosphere of scenic rice fields and rivers makes morning and
afternoon strolls most pleasant. If you’re looking for peace, quiet and
romantic, then Ubud is the place to be.
3
Additionally, elegant five star hotels and sprawling mansions now stand on its outskirts, overlooking
the most prized views in Bali. Nevertheless, it also has numerous places provides cheap accomodation for its
visitors. They are all ready to welcome newly weds to experience their Balinese romanticism.
Couple’s activity
Watching cultural performances
As the centre of the arts, Ubud has dance and shadow puppet performances every night. The
schedule of the performance is easily find in the website or just go to tourist information center near Ubud
market.
Barong Dance
The show is performed in Batubulan, about fifteen minutes south of Ubud on the main road
to Sanur. A Barong dance performance takes place here every day, lasting about an hour. It is very
much a performance for tourists, and the story is of the never ending battle between good and evil.
There is actually not much dancing and a lot of talking in this performance. While buying a ticket, you
will get a description of the forthcoming performance.
Kecak in Pura Dalem
Performed in Jl Raya Ubud, it is one of the best kecak performances in Ubud, every Friday and
Monday evening. Staged in beautiful surroundings outside under the banyan trees, and followed by a
fire dance.
4
Puri Saren & Puri Saraswati
If you want to see various Balinese dances with many different story and name, this is the place
to be. Performed just east of Jl Monkey Forest, Jl Raya Ubud, smack dab in the centre of town, dance
performances are staged here almost nightly.
Relaxing at the Spas
The hotel or resort all around Ubud usually also provide spa services to it guests, so you don’t need
to go outside your comfort and convenience hotel. But there are also plenty of spas for resynchronising
your chakras and sparkling your romanticism with you beloved one.

Visiting temples, musems, galleries, and other cultural sites
The key historical sites are located out of town, some as far as 20km away, and you might find it
worthwhile joining a tour to visit these. If you do visit attractions such as Goa Gajah, Gunung Kawi, Pura
Kehen and Tirta Empul under your own steam, try to find a knowledgeable guide when you get there.
Whilst you will certainly appreciate the beauty of these places, their cultural and spiritual significance will be
lost without a guide.
Enjoying the green rice paddies and Ubud’s landscape.
The area around Ubud is characterised by gently rolling rice paddies, and these create an impression
of greenness which can be quite startlingly beautiful. This is especially true to the south and southeast of the
town. Any visitor approaching from the south will appreciate this and it is worth a stop just to absorb the
gentle beauty of it all.
Courtesy of Kamandalu Resort and Spa, Ubud
Northeast of Ubud town centre the land starts to become more undulating, and this is a good
place to view Bali's classic rice terraces. The village of Tegallalang is worth braving the hordes of trinket
peddlers to view the stunning terraces there. Look for the picture postcard rice terraces on you right-hand
side. For those moving on north to the Kintamani area, this is on route and makes for an easy stop.
On the opposite side of town in the Campuhaun, Sanggingan, and Kedewatan areas, the landscape
changes dramatically as great gorges have been carved out of the limestone land base by the Ayung and
Wos rivers. It's no surprise that so many five star hotels have made their home in these lush, dramatic
valleys. Opportunities for viewing these gorges are many. You can just find your own way and explore by
motorbike (it is very hard work by bicycle as the hills are steep). Head west out of town over the Campuhan
Bridge and just start exploring. The main road here is Jl Raya Sanggingan, and if you continue heading away
from town you will reach the junction with Jl Raya Kedewatan. From that point you can turn in either
direction and just keep exploring. Alternatively, you can stop into a hotel or restaurant, have a drink or
lunch, and gaze out in very civilised surroundings.

Budget
Ubud has many homestays which are the cheapest form of lodging, a good way to meet the locals,
and the natural replacement for hostels on the backpacker circuit. If you want to stay in town, the area
around Jl Monkey Forest is generally the little more expensive (from Rp 80,000-100,000 per night). If
you want cheaper prices try the areas around Jl Hanoman, north of Jl Raya Ubud and further out in
Peliatan. In the low season especially, bargains can be had by those willing to bargain.
Access
Centrally located at the world’s famous tourist destination Bali, access to Ubud would never bring you
any problem. Bali is connected one or two flights from world major cities. Bali’s airport is located in Kuta, then
you need local transport to go to Ubud. There is local shuttle bus offers daily direct transfers to Ubud from
Ngurah Rai International Airport, Sanur, Lovina, Kuta, Bedugul, Candidasa, and Padang Bai. These are
convenient and inexpensive; e.g. four times per day from the airport for Rp 50,000.
If you want to take a taxi to Ubud from South Bali, it is best to charter the vehicle for a return trip, otherwise,
you'll be hit with a 30% fee for going out-of-town. Metered fares, one-way and not including surcharge, are
around Rp 100,000 from Denpasar and Rp 200,000 from Kuta.
To get around Ubud, in the central area can be covered on foot, but you will need some form of
transport to explore the extended vicinity. Bemos play the main routes in and around Ubud, and the main stop
and gathering point is Ubud market at the junction of Jl Monkey Forest and Jl Raya Ubud. Most bemos stop
running in the late afternoon, and are always more frequent in the morning.
Most local transport comes in the form of SUVs or minivans that can be hired with a driver for specific
trips. Look for the circular yellow "E" logo on the windshield certifying them as Ubud Transport Association
members. You can (and should) haggle a bit over the price, and pay a touch less than for the equivalent journey
in a metered taxi. A short trip is about Rp 20,000 to 30,000, and drivers will be glad to wait for you for a
return fare. Also, there are guys on motorbikes who will also offer bike rides (ojek) and are about half the price
of those in a car.
Many hotels are located out of town, and are happy to offer regular, complimentary drop-off and pickup services to central Ubud. Expect to pay higher than taxi prices if you are intending to go further afield.
Motorbike
As elsewhere in Bali, motorbike rental is widely available, and you will not be short of options. Expect
to pay between Rp 50,000 and 80,000 per day. Look for rental agencies on all the main streets, or ask your
10
hotel to organise for you. Navigation can be confusing, as signage is limited and all the roads look pretty much
the same at first, but take it easy and stop to ask for directions if (when) you get lost.
Bicycle
You can rent bicycles for about Rp 20,000-30,000 per day. There is a large selection available at the
corner of the football field on Jl Monkey Forest. Beware though: Ubud is very hilly, so cycling can be hard,
sweaty work, but it could fun things to do with your love one…
Nusa Dua, Bali
Nusa Dua offers the ultimate luxury in Bali. If you are after a place to stay in style then Nusa Dua is as
good as it gets! If the purpose of your stay on Bali is just laying and on the beach, recieving a first class service
and not have the hassle of bargaining with the local traders, Nusa Dua may be the place for you.
Crystal clear water and stretches of white sandy beach of Nusa Dua makes Nusa Dua a perfect spot for
luxurious resorts to which your exhausted bodies. Some of the most sumptuous and luxurious hotels in the
world find their home in Nusa Dua Bali. It hosts most of the major 5 star resorts and international restaurants
with international price tags to fit. It is however possible to find some budget accommodation. You can tee off
into the sunset, while watching the gentle waves come from the blue sea and caress the banks surrounding the
luscious greens. Tranquil swimming pools under the coconut trees seem to be one with the distant blue sea. Art
galleries and numerous shops surround them.

Couple’s Activity
Beside enjoying the luxury of world class hotel and resort, in Nusa Dua you can also do several activities outside
the hotel area, such as:
Golf
One of three top notch golf courses in Bali, and perhaps the most popular of them all due to its
convenient location. Any hotel will be able to arrange a round for you - ask about packages on offer as these
can save you a lot of money. Booking a tee time is very important on this very busy course.

Walking path
A large swathe of the Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa beachfront is connected via a nice walking path,
and morning walks here are especially recommended. The footpath runs from just in front of the Ayodya

obvious spits, both of which host temples.

species that exist in the Indo-Western Pacific. There are more

of remarkable reefs. Lionfish always impress, as do the feisty clown fish. Dolphins are quite often spotted and at
some drop-off points, shoals of fish swirl around in such profusion it’s like entering a wind-driven snowstorm.
With about 20 dive spots to choose from, divers will have the chance to swim below the sea, and frolic joyfully
while admiring the sea creatures with your beloved.

Access
To go to Bunaken, the easiest way is via Manado (North Sulawesi). It is an accessible capital city,
reachable via international flights from Singapore or Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Philippines (Davao) and
domestic daily flghts from Jakarta, Surabaya, Balikpapan and Bali. Daily Domestic Flight from Jakarta, Surabaya,
Bali and Balikpapan are also available.
The Ships to Manado is only from Indonesian islands. PELNI has six large passenger boats calling at the
deep-water port of Bitung, plus there are many smaller ferries out of Manado itself. They call at ports along the
coast, go north to Tahuna (Sangihe) and Lirung (Talaud) or over to Ternate and Ambon. PT PELNI passenger
ships will take you to Bitung Harbor, about 45 km from Manado.
Information about ferry schedules of the Indonesian Shipping Agency PELNI please click
www.pelni.co.id. Besides Bitung harbour, there are smaller harbours like Manado, Amurang, Likupang,
Tanawangko and Belang served by smaller ships with shorter routes.
The Trans-Sulawesi Road stretches all the way from Manado in the north to Makassar in the south of
Sulawesi. But this is not recommended for you because from Palu or South Sulawesi will take several days to
Manado, long way to go.
Manado to Bunaken
The island of Bunaken is easily reached from Manado by motorized boat, departing from Manado
harbor, Molas, Kalasey and Tasik Ria beach. Bunaken is about 45 to 60 minutes by boat from Manado. Most
resorts will arrange transfers from the airport for their guests.
Alternatively, ferries from Manado to Bunaken leave daily, except on Sundays, when they leave from
Pasar Jengki near the Manado harbor. The return journey from Bunaken to Manado usually leaves early in the
morning.
There are also charter boats that depart in the morning and return in the late afternoon. These are
usually reserved for travel packages organized by agents or hotels.

By plane
Bintan's Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport only caters to a limited number of flights, none of which are
international. The main operator is Riau Airlines which provides connections to Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Palembang,
Jambi and the remote Natuna Islands. Sriwijaya Air offers daily flights from Jakarta. Alternatives include flying
into Singapore and taking the ferry across, or using the larger airport in neighboring Batam.
By boat
You are most likely to arrive by boat. Most international travelers arrive from Singapore and Johor
Bahru. Bintan is also the major domestic seaport for the Riau Islands and is a port of call for Indonesia's major
passenger shipping company Pelni. The ride across itself is worth the trip. Make sure you get on the open deck
(most locals stay in the air-conditioned cabin). Close to Singapore, hundreds and hundreds of oil tankers,
freighters and huge container ships from all over the world literally fill up the horizon in any direction.
There are several passenger ports in Bintan. The most common one is at Tanjung Pinang where most shortdistance inter-island ferries and those from Singapore and Johor Bahru dock. The other ferry terminals are at
Tanjung Uban, Kijang (where Pelni boats dock), and Teluk Sebung which serves the Bintan Resorts area on the
northern part of the island. Please see Bintan Resorts for details to get to that part of Bintan.
-
From/to Singapore - three companies - Penguin, Indo Falcon and Berlian/Wavemaster - operate
ferries between Singapore's Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and Tanjung Pinang. Together, they operate
six ferries on weekdays, increasing to nine during weekends and public holidays.
o Berlian/Wave master (Tel: +65-65468830 in Tanah Merah FT)
o Indo Falcon (Tel: +65-62706778/62757393 in Singapore)
o Penguin (Tel: +65-65427105 in Tanah Merah FT)
The various ferries from Singapore take around 2 hours to get to Tanjung Pinang. When you arrive you
should confirm your return at the ferry company offices ASAP as the ferries can get full. It is impossible
to get out of the terminal without a guide latching on to you, so take advantage and get them to show
you where the office is, they may offer to do this anyway. It is roughly - left out of the terminal, then
take the first left and the office is at the end of the street and should only take a couple of minutes to
reach.
-
From/to Malaysia - around five ferries daily to/from the Johor Bahru International Ferry Terminal at
Stulang Laut, Johor Bahru, to Tanjung Pinang. Journey takes 90 mins. Call Tenggara Senandung (Tel:
+60-7-2211677) at the Johor Bahru ferry terminal for more information.
-
From/to Batam
o
Baruna (Tel: +62-771-28578 in Tanjung Pinang, +62-778-479162 in Telaga Punggur) and
Sentosa speedboats run virtually every 15 minutes between Telaga Punggur on the
southeastern end of Batam and Tanjung Pinang, the main town on Bintan. Slightly less
28
frequent speedboats run between Telaga Punggur and Tanjung Uban on the western end of
Bintan.
o
Several ferries which originate from cities in the Sumatra mainland also call at Sekupang, the
main domestic ferry port on Batam, before continuing to Tanjung Pinang. One such operator
is Dumai Express.
-
From/to Dumai, Sumatra - several ferries daily by Dumai Express run to Tanjung Pinang via Sekupang,
Batam. Some ferries also stop at Tanjung Balai on Karimun Island.
-
From/to Pekanbaru - SB Kurnia Usaha Baru runs daily ferry to Pekanbaru, departing at 6:30 am.
-
From/to Tanjung Balai, Karimun Island - daily ferries by Arena to/from Tanjung Pinang.
-
From/to Tanjung Batu, Kundur Island - one daily speedboat operated by SB Giam Mas (Tanjung Batu
agent at port, Tel: +62-779-431589) departs daily from Tanjung Batu, the main town on Kundur Island,
at 0745 for Tanjung Pinang. The boat returns to Tanjung Batu on the same day, departing Tanjung
Pinang. The boat has scheduled stops at Galang Island and Moro on Sugibawah Island, while
unscheduled stops may be made at various little settlements along the way. Journey time is about two
and a half hours each way.
-
From/to Singkep Island - ferries Batavia and Superjet run daily between Tanjung Pinang and Dabo on
Singkep Island, departing at 11 am. You can catch boat connections to the Lingga Islands from Singkep.
-
From/to Natuna Islands
o
Fortnightly ferry from Tanjung Pinang to the isolated Anambas and Natuna Islands.
o
Pelni's KM Bukit Raya sails from Kijang port in Bintan to Letung, Tarempa. Natuna and Midai
on the way out to Pontianak, West Kalimantan. It however returns to Tanjung Pinang via a
different route.
-
From/to other parts of Indonesia - PELNI ships link various Indonesian islands with Kijang port on
Bintan. These ships provide direct links with Jakarta (KM Ciremiu), Pontianak and other more distant
ports.

Gili Meno
Only a kilometre from Gili Trawangan, the most famous Gili in West Nusa Tenggara, and set in the
middle of the three islets lies the best beaches to be found. Only two kilometres long and one wide, Gili Meno is
the smallest of the three islands and by far the most peacefull and under developed. It’s possible to walk around
the island along the beach or paths of Gili Meno in under two hours. Most visitors are attracted to Gili Meno
for the lure of total escapism and it is therefore very popular with honeymooning couples and adventurous
castaway types.
The dining scene is predominantly local cafes with grilled fish on the beach as dusk approaches. Lazing
around in a hammock, reading books and playing chess with the friendly locals (who are always willing to strike
up a conversation) also ranks very highly on the daily Meno agenda.
For divers and snorkellers, the island boasts the infamous 'Gili Meno Wall' where during the day turtles
freely swim by and giant gorgonian fans hang amongst the colourful corals. At night divers can witness huge
Moray Eels and the entertaining Spanish Dancers.
The most popular stretch of sand on Gili Meno is to be found to the left of where the boats pull up on
the beach. This southern beach strip is where the majority of accommodation getting there beach life on the
island is to be found. There are no hawkers to disrupt a day’s sunbathing and the beach huts lining the sand offer
a perfect respite from the heat where visitors can buy drinks and snacks from the neighbouring warungs.
Snorkelling equipment can be hired from any of the local operators. Swimming is perfectly safe in the
calm waters here but don’t venture too far out from the shoreline.
As with Trawangan, visibility is constantly good year round. Expect to see Hawksbill and Leatherback
turtles, schools of Batfish, Blue-spotted stingrays and many varieties of hard and soft corals. If you look hard
30
enough you could be lucky enough to find rare and unusual nudibranchs amongst other lesser-spotted micro
critters.
Meno bird park
There are not too many activities to be found on Gili Meno,
which is part of its appeal as the marvelous honeymoon spot for loving
couple. Those who simply cannot refrain from some form of activity
will find the Bird Park in the centre of the village an entertaining
distraction for a morning or afternoon. Peafowls, Pheasants, Hornbills,
Eagles, Pelicans, Macaws and parrots galore are amongst the feathered
citizens and ambassadors gathered from all over the world. The Turtle
Sanctuary plays an important role in protecting and hatching baby
turtles for release into the Gili waters. Small donations are welcome to
this worthwhile cause. Apart from these two pursuits it’s back to
tropical beach-combing and book reading activities to whittle away
the Gili Meno hours..
Accommodation
If you want simplicity and solitude for your honeymoon, Gili Meno is the place to be. It has no top
level of accommodation. The charming style huts on the main beach are very popular as they are the only
rooms on all three islands that are situated actually at the water’s edge.
Mid range bungalows are generally situated slightly back from the main path whilst budget rooms can
be found dotted throughout the whole of the island and can be found just along the main strip.
The thatched bungalows and rooms are situated in a shady tropical gardens on the northern part of the
island.
There’s a mix of cheaper rooms and better-appointed bungalows with freshwater shower facilities and
fan. The beach out front is quiet and charming in its own right and visitors will find few distractions or
disturbances. Some budget accomodation:

Most visitors arrive via Gili Trawangan then jump on a connecting island hopper boat for the
fifteenminute trip over the channel. Boats depart from Gili Trawangan daily and from Gili (a twenty minute
ride).
Visitors from mainland Lombok leave from Bangsal harbour in public boats for the twenty-five minute
crossing. Purchase tickets only from the concrete Koperassi Karya Bahari building and not from the touts that
line the roads into Bangsal.
There are no set timings for the crossing from Lombok to Gili Meno, it’s up to the captain once the
boat is full but it is possible to charter your own public boat or buy up remaining available tickets for a speedier
departure.

Yogyakarta
Today's Yogyakarta is a bustling town of some
500,000 people
and the
most popular tourist
destination on Java. It is surely the place to be to spend
your treasure moments with your loved one, especially if
you wish to experience romance in javanese ambiance.
The town is a center of art and education, offers some
good shopping and has a wide range of tourist facilities.
While taking a walk, you can see closely the
richness of authentic Javanese culture, the life of friendly
humble local people and artists who are making the
handicrafts items. For real, Yogyakarta is truly a traveling
paradise with a lot of fascination which have not been
revealed.
Yogyakarta city was built with deep philosophy:
the city was designed so that the main elements of the
city forms a imaginary line. This straight line starts from
Parangtritis on the coast, to Kraton Yogyakarta, to Tugu
Monument, and finally to Mount Merapi. This
represents Sultan's strong relationship with the guardian
spirits of Mt. Merapi and the beach of Parangtritis.
Being one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Yogyakarta has many heritage buildings and monuments.
There are many notable landmarks and attractions to see while you spend your time with your loved one:
Kraton Complex
The Sri Sultan's palace or Kraton encompasses the main palace, Sultan's residential, two Sultan's
grounds, and large residential area where sultan servants used to reside. Notable attraction in Kraton
complex are Kraton Yogyakarta. A calm yet elegant Javanese heritage that consists of two separate
entrances: the Main Court (Pagilaran & Siti Hinggil), and the Residence. The Main Court showcases the
grandeur of Sultan's monarchy, while the Residence is more homey while still exhibiting the royal
family's luxurious lifestyle.
Taman Sari
Also known by the Dutch name waterkasteel (water castle), this is a partly ruined complex
built as a pleasure garden by the first Sultan in 1765. One of the bathing pools was dedicated to the
sultan's harem, and he had a tower overlooking the area so he could take his pick.
43
Siti Hinggil Selatan.
This somehow-muted palace is rarely used for formal occasion. You can catch a shadow puppet
performance during weekend mornings and nights. There is no admission charge for the show and you
can come and go as you please, which you may well want to do as the show is very long .
Kota Gedhe
The capital of ancient Islamic Mataram kingdom. The tomb of Mataram Kingdom's first king,
Panembahan Senopati, is also located in this place. Before independence, Kotagede was the central
economic district of Yogyakarta, as it held the largest marketplace and was home to many wealthy batik
merchants. Although some ancient buildings have been modernized or replaced with newer buildings,
Kotagede remains a prime example of ancient Javanese architecture and city structure. Be sure to check
out the local silver handicrafts.
Wayang Kulit (the Javanese shadow play, accompanied with gamelan orchestra are performed every
night at Museum Sonobudoyo.),
Becak or Andong ride, take a short trip around the town using Becak or Andong cart.
Shop at Traditional Market, witness local's habits by visiting Yogya's traditional market such as Pasar
Beringharjo and Pasar Kranggan.
Yogyakarta also famous for its proximity to several beautiful temple for the ancient time. Spending
your day with you loved one exploring nearby temple around Yogyakarta would be fascinating experience.
Temple or Candi is ancient archeological structure constructed during 7th-9th century aimed for a specific
religion (Budha or Hindu). It was constructed from hundreds of volcanic or river stone blocks and assembled
solely by human labor. Candi walls is often carved with reliefs depicting stories, and a stone God or Godess
statue usually sits at the center.
Borobudur, one of famous candi is in Magelang, not far from Yogyakarta. Prambanan, also a wellknown candi is in the Yogyakarta-Central Java border area. Others are the unique Candi Sambisari. Unlike other
44
candi, it sits at estimated 6m below the ground line. Candi Sambisari consists of one main candi and three
supporting candis (perwara). You can see lingga and yoni, symbol of male and female sex, inside the main
candi.. There are also Candi Kalasan and Candi Sari constructed in late 7th century (778 AD) with their beautiful
relief carved in its wall.

By plane
Yogyakarta's Adisucipto International Airport (JOG), 8 km east of town, is a small but busy mostlydomestic hub. There are near-hourly connections on Garuda to Jakarta (50 minutes) and Denpasar, while other
domestic airlines service major cities in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. For international services,
AirAsia connects Yogyakarta to both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore while Malaysia Airlines flies between
Yogyakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
Yogyakarta airport is the sole rail-connected airport in Indonesia. Those arriving from (and departing
into) the airport can take a Prambanan Ekspres regional train to/from Kutoarjo (west of Yogyakarta), Palur
(just east of Surakarta) and several stations in between, including Tugu (just off Malioboro Street in
Yogyakarta) and Solobalapan station at Solo. The station at the airport is just a few minutes walk from the
terminal, with an air-conditioned underpass leading all the way to the platform for trains into Yogyakarta.
By bus
The main bus station is Giwangan, 4 km to the southeast of the center. There are regular services
throughout the island, including Jakarta (9 hours), Bandung (6 hours), and Surabaya (8 hours).
There is also a new bus station as of March 2008 which is part of the Trans Jogja Busway System inside the
airport. From there you can get to any one of the many bus stations in the system. It costs Rp 3000 for a
ticket.
If you are going north, to Borobudur temple or Semarang for example, head to Jombor terminal
located just above the northern Ringroad.
47
Since Yogyakarta is in close proximity with Semarang and Solo, there's also a shuttle bus that operates
between these cities, called Joglosemar (Jogja-Solo-Semarang).

By train
Trains to Jakarta take between 7 to 12 hours from the main Yogyakarta station, commonly called Tugu
Station. The Argo-class trains (Argo Lawu and Argo Dwipangga) are the best of the lot: most comfortable and
fastest (8 hours). Taksaka is almost as good. These expresses connect Yogyakarta and Jakarta in 7-8 hours, either
at daytime or overnight. Passengers to/from Bandung should take the Argo Wilis or Lodaya expresses which
traverse a scenic part of Java during daylight hours, with rice fields and mountains (although there is an
overnight Lodaya and the Turangga from Surabaya also travels overnight. Passengers to Surabaya are served by
the twice-daily Sancaka service departing in the morning and afternoon. Yogyakarta and Solo are connected by
several Prambanan Ekspres trains. Despite the name, the train does not stop at Prambanan station, and even if it
does make an unscheduled stop, the station is rather far from the temple complex of Prambanan. The
Prambanan Ekspres does stop at Maguwo station (for the airport) making it easy for travelers to change modes.
-
Stasiun Tugu (Tugu Central Railway Station), the main central station, serves big city destinations such
as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Solo.
-
Stasiun Lempuyangan (Lempuyangan Railway Station), serves economy class trains and small city
destinations.

Borobudur - Amanjiwo
If you want to experiece your honeymoon in truly Javanese ambiance close to world greatest buddhist
monument Borobudur temple, then Amanjiwo would be the perfect option. Amanjiwo is surrounded by
cultural treasures and sacred temples, and provides an ideal base for discovering the artistic as well as the natural
landscape of Central Java, the arts centre of Indonesia and the region from which sprung much of the
archipelago’s rich cultural wealth. The resort offers a number of personalised excursions.
Among the best-preserved ancient monuments in the world, Borobudur is a pleasant walk or bicycle
ride from Amanjiwo. The 9th-century sanctuary occupies a modest plateau and is made up of more than a
million cut-stone blocks, 1,460 stone relief panels and 504 life-size Buddha statues, each sculpted from a single
stone. From the top gallery of Borobudur, one can enjoy panoramic views of Central Java. Except for the faint
shimmer of Amanjiwo, the view has changed little over the centuries, embracing the Kedu Plain and its
surrounding villages, looming Mount Sumbing, the twin volcanic mountains of Merbabu and Merapi and the
Menoreh Hills.
Both a shrine to Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage, Borobudur comprises six square
platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 life-size Buddha
statues, each sculpted from a single stone. The monument occupies a modest plateau and from the top gallery,
beautiful views of Central Java are revealed.
Borobudur is best seen at dawn, when the air is fresh and full of birdsong. As the mist begins to lift, the
sun scales the surrounding volcanoes and terraced fields, and highlights the stone reliefs and the many faces of
Buddha. Glimpsing Borobudur for the first time is often a deeply felt emotional experience. Later in the day,
visits can be made to appreciate the historic and cultural context of this enduring monument. Personal
54
guides will bring to life the knowledge contained within the
reliefs. Go by andong, the traditional horse cart used daily by
villagers throughout the region.
Explore the region’s cities and villages visiting art
galleries, hidden temples and royal palaces. Witness trance
dances, sunrise from Borobudur and sunset from the highest
point in the Menoreh Hills. Climb volcanic Mount Merapi at
midnight, and wander through a local market in the early
morning. Excursions further afield can take place by car, while
cycling and walking options closer to Amanjiwo allow guests to
stop at will, interacting with local villagers. Elephant or
horseback rides provide another perspective on the region, while
a relaxed tour atop a local horse-drawn cart, or andong (the
main mode of transport for villagers throughout the region), is
another peaceful option.
Couple’s Activities
For your honeymoon, Amanjiwo offers several private activities for couple to enjoy the sparkling of their love
by doing some romantic things together.
Spa
A range of Javanese and traditional beauty treatments including facials, massages and cream baths
are available at Amanjiwo, some of which incorporate the ancient holistic jamu method of healing.
Treatments can be enjoyed in the privacy of guest suites or in the specially-designed spa suite which features
twin massage tables and an outdoor bale for relaxing afterwards with spicy ginger tea.
Enjoy Java’s famed herbal beauty treatments the traditional way. As a final touch, lavender
tuberose body cream is applied to condition and soften the skin.
Mandi Lulur – Experience the preparation of a Javanese princess before her wedding day. This is a
traditional exfoliation and body polishing treatment made from white turmeric and honey, blended
with rice grain. The treatment begins with a massage, followed by the lulur scrub and ends with a
relaxing herbal bath. A truly royal treat for your body. The masculine version of Mandi Lulur is also
available.
Mandi Susu – A good remedy for sun-burned skin, Mandi Susu or milk bath starts with a soothing
massage. A luxurious body mask, made with milk and honey is then applied all over the body, cooling
55
the skin. To complete the treatment, a soak in the milky, floral bath will leave the body feeling
completely nurtured.
Mandi Lulur Borneo Hitam – A masculine version of the Mandi Lulur, the ‘Black Borneo’ uses a blend
of black rice and coffee as the scrub, to smooth the skin. To improve vitality an invigorating massage
oil is used for the massage. The treatment ends with a warm herbal bath.
The gift of massage
Pijat traditional massage
In rural Java, the masseur is revered. He is a Dukun - a holy man, healer and mediator with the spirit
world. The masseur is versed in the rituals required of his art, and the villagers place their faith in his
ancient skills. Amanjiwo’s team of masseurs and masseuses all possess the Gift, and are respected as
Orang Pintar, or spiritual people. All were born within local villages. Some, like Ibu Diriyah, discovered
by accident that their touch could cure the hurt of a hard day in the sawah (field). Pijat is therapeutic
rather than hedonistic. It is a deep massage and not a soft, pampering stroke. It can, sometimes, even
verge on the painful, but the result is always blissful, both relaxing and healing.
Javanese massage
The softer and gentler version of Pijat, guaranteed to make you sigh with pleasure. The nurturing touch
of the therapist will help untie knotted muscles and make you feel totally relaxed.
Traditional Javanese Reflexology
A rebalancing therapy to restore the energy of the body's organs by applying pressure to the reflex
points, focusing mainly on the back, feet and hands.
56
Back, neck & shoulder massage
For the weary traveller suffering from stiff shoulders and neck, with tension in the back muscles, this
treatment is perfect. The therapist will focus on these areas. With concentrated deep kneading, your
stiffness will evaporate soon after.
Swimming pool and pool club
The resort’s 40-metre infinity swimming pool, lined with green tiles and overlooked by banyan
trees, is surrounded by rice paddies. Overlooked by sun loungers and umbrellas, it lies adjacent to the Pool
Club, a raised and colonnaded semicircular deck where breakfast, light lunches, drinks and snacks are served.
Weddings at Amanjiwo
With magnificent views over the green rice terraces of the Kedu Plain towards Borobudur, the world’s
largest and oldest Buddhist sanctuary, a wedding at Amanjiwo is an enchantingly different experience. Within
the tranquil surrounds of the property, the gracious hospitality of Java will embrace you.
The Dalem Jiwo Suite is a discreet compound, complete with a private entrance, a grand rotunda and
surrounding terrace and two detached bedrooms. The suite’s 15m pool, finished in a green Javanese stone
known as hijau danau, appears to merge into the rice paddies. The Rotunda is perfectly sized and positioned for
intimate ceremonies. The area can be transformed afterwards into a dance floor, a dining pavilion or an elegant
lounging area.
57
Amanjiwo can tailor a reception to suit your individual needs and requirements. Imagine a carpet of
rose petals covering the limestone floors, the Dalem Jiwo suite and its 15m pool illuminated by bamboo torches
and banana-leaf wrapped candles, while garlands of woven sweet-smelling jasmine decorate the Rotunda
columns. A full gamelan orchestra playing Javanese classical music can also be arranged to accompany
traditional dancers.
In the Javanese festive tradition, the Wedding Feast starts with a blessing and the presentation of
offerings to the bridal couple such as Gunungan (Holy Rice Mountain), and other customary Javanese
delicacies. Following this, Amanjiwo will host a sumptuous Indonesian or Western meal, or a feast with a
combination of both cuisines.
Amanjiwo’s specialty and the most popular ceremony is the traditional Javanese wedding. Christian or
Buddhist Blessing ceremonies can also be arranged with the cooperation of the churches and vihara around
Borobudur and Magelang.
Access
Amanjiwo can be reached by several daily domestic flights to Yogyakarta and Solo from Indonesia’s
capital, Jakarta, Bali or Singapore.
