SolidWorks Installation Guide OCTOBER 2007 SolidWorks Education Edition 2007 Installation Instructions Preparation ➢ Verify that your system meets the criteria specified in http://www.solidworks.com/System_Requirements. ➢ Back up all SolidWorks files (parts, assemblies, and drawings, document templates, sheet formats, library features, and form tools) before upgrading to SolidWorks 2007. Files you open and save in SolidWorks 2007 cannot be opened in earlier versions. ➢ Locate your Serial Number. (The number typically begins with 9710 (Network) or 9701 (Stand Alone) and is located on the front of the box on a sticker. If you cannot find or you have misplaced your number, contact your local VAR to obtain one.) ➢ Uninstall any alpha, beta, or pre-release versions of the SolidWorks or COSMOS software. Registration To register during the installation, enter your registration code at the prompt or follow the instructions to request a code at the end of the installation. If you prefer to register later, you can use the product for up to 30 days without a registration code. However, during this trial period, you cannot open files that are more than 30 days old. To request a registration code, send an email to register@SolidWorks.com. You will receive a response within three business days. Please note that registration codes are not provided by phone. You are ready to begin your installation of SolidWorks Education Edition! LICENSE SERVER • Install SolidWorks & COSMOS License Servers • SolidWorks Network License • COSMOS Network License • Host ID • Dongle If you are installing a network version you will need to obtain a “SolidWorks and COSMOS Network License file” (in the form of a txt file). If you are installing a stand alone version you will need a “Registration Code” (an 8 unit alpha/numeric sequence) . ➢ Installation and Licensing Process ➢ Step 1 Step 2 LICENSE CLIENTS • Install SolidWorks Software Step 3 Step 4 License File Retrieval License Server Installation SolidWorks Education Edition Installation DWGeditor, eDrawings® and COSMOS Installation, Registration (Network & Stand Alone) (Network & Stand Alone) (Network User only) Page 1 Step 1 | SolidWorks & COSMOS License File Retrieval, Registration Code This step is for users who are on NETWORK and need a License file and for users who are on Stand Alone that need a Registration Code. 1. Go to www.solidworks.com and then click Services. 2. Once you are in the Services page, click Support – Customer Portal. This will direct you to the sign-in page for the customer portal. 3. Once you are in the sign-in page, on the right side of the page, click on To create a account, click here. 4. Put in the appropriate information in the boxes listed and click Continue at the bottom of the page. (You will not be able to move forward if you have not completed the required fields which are indicated with a red asterisk.) Page 2 5. After you have completed filling out your information, you will then be asked to accept the terms of agreement. 6. You have successfully signed in to the Customer Portal. In order for Full Access to the portal, you must Register your Products. On the right side of the Customer Portal, under My Information, click Register My Products. Page 3 7. After you click Register My Product, you will have to enter your SolidWorks Serial Number in the box. (The number typically begins with 9710 (Network) or 9701 (Stand Alone) and is located on the front of the box on a sticker. If you cannot find or you have misplaced your number, contact your local VAR to obtain one.) Then click Next. 8. Once you have entered your serial number, you will then be asked several questions in the next window. Answer the fields and then click Next. Page 4 Example of Email 9. The SolidWorks Network License File (.txt) or the SolidWorks Registration Code has been emailed to you. You should receive this file in a few minutes. (Note: SAVE THE NETWORK LICENSE FILE TO YOUR C: DRIVE. You will need this in Step 2.) Click Next. I didn’t receive my license file, what do I do? If you don’t receive your license file in a reasonable amount of time here are some tips: ● Check your junk mail folder ● Check your spam folder ● Check with your IT department to see if it is blocked in one of their folders ● If you still cannot get the license file, contact your local reseller and they will be able to get it for you. Page 5 Network and Stand Alone: To retrieve your COSMOS Network License File, go to www.solidworks.com/cosmosEDUlicense. Fill out the fields and then click Continue. Note: DO NOT use the physical address for your wireless card if you have one. HOST ID: To find your Host ID click: Start > Run > Type in cmd then press enter. Type in ipconfig/all in the windows prompt. Look for your Physical Address and type that in the Host ID field in the COSMOS EDU License Request Form. This number will be 12 digits containing alphanumeric characters. Page 6 1. The COSMOS Network License File has been emailed to you. (license.dat) You should receive this file in a few minutes. (Note: SAVE THE NETWORK LICENSE FILE TO YOUR C: DRIVE of the machine acting as your license server. You will need this in Step 2 for Network and Step 4 for Stand Alone.) Close this window. ***STAND ALONE PROCEED TO STEP 3*** SEE PAGE 18 Step 2 | SolidWorks & COSMOS NetWork License Server Installation This step is only for users who are on NETWORK. If you purchased a Stand Alone, proceed to Step 3 in the installation process. The SolidNetWorks and COSMOS License Manager is the application that enables the SolidWorks software to run on your machines. 1. INSERT DONGLE (Note: USB or Parallel Type) 2. Insert Solidworks DVD in your local DVD drive. If SolidWorks Master Setup does not come up automatically, select My Computer and double click the D: drive. Once Master Setup has started, click Other Products. Page 7 Note: If you are installing SolidWorks on a Network with Restricted Rights, please look in the Customer Portal for additional documentation or contact your local reseller for assistance. 3. You will be prompted to choose what you would like to install. Choose SolidNetWork License Manager and then click Install. • Note: The License Manager should be installed on one of the machine that will be used to distribute SolidWorks licenses on your network server. • Your dongle (hardware lock) must be inserted on the machine that is your License Manager and not any other machine. 4. Welcome to the SolidWorks SolidNetWork License Manager Setup Wizard! Click Next to begin your installation. Page 8 5. You will be asked where you want to install the SolidNetwork License Manager application. You can change the default settings to a location of your choice by clicking Change located in the right side of the window. Once you have chosen, click Next. 6. You will next be asked what language you want as your default. After you choose your language, click Next. Page 9 7. Now you are ready to begin the installation. Click Install to proceed. 8. Click Finish to continue. Page 10 9. To begin the installation, DO NOT change the location where “The wizard will help you create or edit the FLEXlm license file.” Keep the server type at Single, and then click Next. 10. In this step of the installation, you will be given your server information. PLEASE NOTE the Computer Name and Port Number. (You will need the Computer Name and Port Number in Step 3.) Once you have written down your Computer Name and Port Number, click Next. Note: Please take note of the Firewall message. If your network has firewall, check the box on the upper left hand corner. Page 11 11. You will now have to insert your SolidWorks Network License File that you were given during Step 1. (You were given a Network License File (.txt) during Step 1. This file was placed in your C: Drive.) Click Read to insert your Network License File. 12. Click Browse and locate the Network License File that you have copied to your C: Drive. Once you located your Network License File, click Ok. Page 12 13. Your Network License will show up on the screen. You are now finished installing the SolidWorks SolidNetWork License Manager. Click Finish to move to the next step and begin installing COSMOS NetWork License Manager. 14. Click Back to return to the master setup window. Page 13 15. Click Install COSMOS to begin installing the COSMOS NetWork License Manager. 16. Click Install COSMOS Network License Manager to begin installation. Page 14 17. The COSMOS Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation process. Click Next. 18. You will now have to insert your COSMOS Network License File that you were given during Step 1. (You were given a Network License File (license.dat) during Step 1. This file was placed in your C: Drive.) Click Browse to locate your file and then click Next. Page 15 19. You can specify the following information to indicate how you want the COSMOS license service to be configured on the server machine. (Recommended: Leave the Default settings) Then click Next. 20. Choose the destination folder to where you want to install the COSMOS Network License Manager. You can click Change to change the location. Once you have chosen your destination folder, click Next. Page 16 21. You are now ready to begin installing the COSMOS Network License Manager. Click Install. 22. You are now finished installing the COSMOS Network License Manager. Click Finish. Page 17 Step 3 | SolidWorks Education Edition Installation Note: For SolidWorks Network install, the software does not get installed on the network machine (Server). SolidWorks should be installed on the user machines (Client). 1. You are finished installing SolidWorks and COSMOS License Server on the SERVER machine (Network Users) Click Close. Now you are ready to install SolidWorks on your CLIENT machines. Make sure you use the correct disk. This will depend on which operating system you have, Windows XP or Vista. Note: Installing SolidWorks will also install COSMOS products automatically. You do not have to re-install COSMOS after the SolidWorks installation is complete. 2. After you have clicked Install SolidWorks, the SolidWorks Setup Wizard will guide you through the installation. Click Next to begin installation. Page 18 3. When the prompt asks you what you would like to install, Click SOLIDWORKS OFFICE PREMIUM. Do not click the other options. (Education Customers benefit by getting the best software SolidWorks provides.) Then click Next. 4. After you have chosen SolidWorks Office Premium as your choice, you will be asked which folder you would like your software to be installed in. You can change the default settings to a location of your choice by clicking Change located in the right side of the window. After you have chosen your location, click Next. Page 19 5. Once you have chosen the folder for your installation, you will then have to provide your SolidWorks Serial Number. (The number begins with 9710 (Network) or 9701 (Stand Alone) and is located on the front of the box on a sticker. IF you cannot find or you have misplaced your number, contact your local VAR to obtain one.) Then click Next. 6. STAND ALONE ONLY(Network users go to number 7 on page 21). Type in the SolidWorks Registration Code you were emailed in Step 1. Then click, Next. Page 20 7. Click Next. 8. The next step in the installation invites you to join the SolidWorks Experience Feedback Program. This data is used only for quality and product improvement purposes. Once you have chosen yes or no, click Next. Stand-alone only. proceed to number 12 on page 23. Page 21 9. NETWORK ONLY. If you are installing a Network license of SolidWorks, your serial number will trigger the following dialog box shown below. (Note: If you are installing a standalone license, you will not see the following dialogue. Proceed to number 12, page 23.) You will be asked to list license servers that can be accessed by the computer you are installing SolidWorks on. Click Add. 10. NETWORK ONLY. After you click add, you will be prompted to enter the license server name in the form of portNumber@computerName (ex. 25734@myserver). You have noted this in Step 2. Once you have entered your license server name, click Ok. Page 22 11. NETWORK ONLY. Once you click ok, your license server should be listed in the box. Then click Ok to begin installation. 12. Now you are ready to begin the installation of the SolidWorks Education Edition. Click Install. Page 23 13. Click Next once this part of the installation has completed. Note: You are not finished with your full installation. Depending upon your computer configuration you may or may not need to restart your computer. *If your computer asks you to restart, leave the disc in the computer so the installation process can continue upon start up of the computer.* Page 24 14. Click Done to continue. You will now automatically install eDrawings®, DWG Editor, and COSMOS Page 25 Step 4 | eDrawings® , DWG Editor, and COSMOS Installation, Registration 1. NOTE: Stand Alone only. DO NOT run SolidWorks after the installation has finished. You still need to insert your COSMOS License File. Proceed directly to number 5, page 28 of this process. 2. NETWORK ONLY. You have finished installing COSMOSWorks®, COSMOSMotion™, and COSMOSFloWorks™. The next step is registration. Choose the appropriate registration method and then click Next. (Recommended: Web on this computer) 3. NETWORK ONLY. Once you have chosen the method of registration and completed the process, you can continue with the SolidWorks Installation. After completion of registration, a window will prompt you to finish installation of SolidWorks. Click Finish. Page 26 4. You are now finished installing the SolidWorks Education Edition! STAND ALONE ONLY: DO NOT run SolidWorks now. (Uncheck ‘Run SolidWorks now’) Proceed to next step. Note: Installing SolidWorks will also install COSMOS products automatically. You do not have to re-install COSMOS after the SolidWorks installation is complete. Page 27 5. STAND ALONE ONLY. You need to insert your COSMOS License File in order for COSMOS to work properly. Click Start >All Programs > SolidWorks 2007 SP4.0 > COSMOS Tools > License Administrator Tool. 6. STAND ALONE ONLY. Next click the third tab on top that is named Authorized Modules. Then click Edit. 7. STAND ALONE ONLY.You will now have to insert your COSMOS Network License File that you were given during Step 1. (You were given a Network License File (license.dat) during Step 1. This file was placed in your C: Drive.). Then click Ok. Page 28 8. STAND ALONE ONLY. Insert Dongle and run SolidWorks. Click Ok to finish. YOU CAN NOW RUN SOLIDWORKS EDUCATION EDITION! Page 29
