Introduction
THE GALLERY
The gallery is named after
community leader, Peter “Lord
of the Rink” MacKendrick
(1953-2012), who originated
the natural ice rink at the
Artscape Wychwood Barns.
He was also a key community
leader who helped make the
Barns and Wychwood Barns
Park a reality.
Artscape is pleased to announce that the Peter MacKendrick
Community Gallery at Artscape Wychwood Barns has become
available for rent. Artscape is seeking a gallery, artist-run centre, arts
or community organization to tenant the space beginning December
1, 2015.
Since its opening in 2008, the gallery has been successfully operated
by the Wychwood Barns Community Association (WBCA), hosting
frequent exhibitions by both emerging and acclaimed artists such as
John Coburn, as well as events such as Doors Open Toronto and the
Solid Colour Holiday Show and Sale.
The successful candidate artist(s) or organizations will be committed
to animating this space so that it may continue to bring lasting
impact as a publicly accessible arts landmark.
Artscape is now accepting applications to lease this
coveted space. The deadline to apply is August 14, 2015

The Artscape Wychwood Barns, including the stunning Peter
MacKendrick Community Gallery, was designed by architect Joe
Lobko of Du Toit Allsopp Hillier, recipient of a Lifetime Achievement
Award for sustainable building (2012) whose work includes such
notable projects as the renewal of the Evergreen Brick Works and the
urban design of Waterfront Toronto’s West Don Lands Community.
This bright and airy space has fourteen-foot ceilings with tracklighting and adjustable spotlight fixtures that can light both the walls
and the centre of the room simultaneously, as well as drywall walls
for ease of hanging work, making it a beautiful space for exhibitions.
*How rent is calculated at the Peter MacKendrick Community Gallery: The rental figure includes base rent plus
additional rent, which includes an estimate of maintenance, utilities and insurance costs which will be reconciled
against actual expenses at the end of each year. This rental figure does not include property taxes, which may or may
not be levied by the City depending on the proposed activities of the new tenant. If property taxes are due they are
