Celebrate the holiday
season in downtown Iola
A Hometown Holiday
Celebration is planned on
Nov. 30 by the Iola Area
Chamber of Commerce to
usher in the Christmas
season.
Festivities will begin at 6
p.m. with Becky French
singing Christmas carols at
the bandstand. At 6:30 the
Iola square will be aglow
with Christmas lights following a lighting ceremony
at the bandstand.
A Santa Welcoming
Parade begins at 6:35. The
parade begins at the Townhouse and will turn east on
Jackson and continue
along the north side of the
square turning south on
Jefferson to drop Santa
Claus off at his house,
where he will visit with
children from 7 to 8.
Downtown businesses
will remain open until 8
o’clock.
Anyone wishing to participate in the parade may
call the chamber at 3655252. Children must be
accompanied by an adult
in the parade.
Letters to Santa may be
dropped off at his house
until Dec. 21. Letters
should include a return
address for a reply from
Santa. Last year 100 letters were received and
answered.
Santa will be in his
house from 6 to 8 p.m.
Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Volunteer elves are needed to
assist Santa at his house.
Anyone interested in
helping Santa may call
the chamber.
Registration for the
Gingerbread Walk should
be made by Wednesday at
the chamber office. Gingerbread houses will be
displayed from Dec. 1 to
31 in downtown store
windows. Categories this
year include clubs and
organizations, schools,
adults and children ages
12 and under.
“We are hoping the
Hometown Holiday Celebration grows each year
making for a more festive
atmosphere. Marty Meadows was especially helpful in helping me arrange
this year’s festivities,”
said Jana Taylor, chamber director.
