About The Vintage Mustang Owners Association
The Vintage Mustang Owners Association (VMOA) was founded in
August, 1977 to provide a focal point for Mustang owners who wished
to further their enjoyment of ownership. The club was originally
dedicated to the restoration and preservation of only the 1965 and
1966 Mustangs, but now welcomes all Mustangs up to and including
the current model year of production. Your interest and enthusisium in
Mustangs is the most important thing, not the condition of your car or
not even own a Mustang . Club members keep current on the latest
Mustang information and participate in numerous fun events all year.
The Pony Express
The Pony Express is the official publication of the Vintage Mustang
Owners Association. It is published for the exclusive use of its members. Please send information and articles to:
Editor@VintageMustang.org Information and articles to appear in the

easier for you and your car. Ads: Want ads and For Sale ads can be
submitted at the monthly meeting or by writing to the editor. Free for
members! Others at Editor’s discretion.

President’s letter July 2011
The summer has officially started when we finished the World
Famous VMOA Car Show on the 18th of June. Another well
attended show and another well run show. I do believe we had
close to 200 cars this year. Up slightly from last year. It was great
to see so many people at the VMOA car show, given the present
economy, the turn out was fantastic. Every thing at the show went
flawlessly. I want to thank Myron and Rick for there tireless
efforts to organize this event. All I can say is Fantastic job guys!
I would also like to thank the Car show Committee for all their
hours to make this show one of the Primer Mustang events to
attend. I can’t tell you how many people I talked to on Saturday
that said “this is the best show to attend “. I think what make this
show so fun to attend is that we have all the car classes designated
by Year and Model, in turn this makes it so much easier to vote
and view.
And thank you to all the VOLUNTEERS who have spent a lot of
their time getting this show to run so smoothly. Also a big thank
you to John & Sally O’toole for there time and devotion to this
club, their contributions are very much appreciated. So do me a
favor when you see them at the meeting on Friday just say “Thank
you”. And thank you to Rod Davidson for arranging and
managing the volunteers. And to Ray Banks and Joe Silva for
coordinating all of the shows vendors and tracking down Major
and minor sponsors for this year. I could write for days thanking
a lot of people for the operation and execution of the car show but
I will save that for Friday at the General meeting.
P.S. Great job everyone.
Respectively Submitted, Steve Chapman
VMOA President

VMOA Monthly Meeting and Board Meeting Minutes
Meeting: General Meeting ; Date: June 3, 2011
Location: Sunnyvale Ford
Meeting called to order by President Steve Chapman at 7:35pm ,
Members/Guests Present: 47
1.
Steve opened the meeting at 7:35 with a welcome and
introduction of current officers.
2.
Sally O’Toole introduced guest and also new members Don
and Kathy Chapman, with their 68 GT coupe.
3.
Robert Wilson announced that there were new member
packets to hand out to the following: Charles Mosley, Les Stuart. Jim
Carlstrom, Ben Gage, Bob Waldman. Steve Frost, Tom Robinson, Nain
Torres, Joe Sunzeri and Mike Goodnight. Only Charles Mosley was
present at the meeting, the others will be mailed.
4.
Car of the Month. Steve Gilbert’s long awaited 1966
fastback was car of the month, but, unfortunately, Steve could not
make the meeting. However, photos and a detailed article were
included in the newsletter.
5.
Committee Reports. The car show committee Co-chair,
Myron Moreno announced that the show was two weeks away and
everything was in pretty good shape. Volunteers are still needed to
help on the day of the show. A final meeting will be scheduled to
assemble the trophies and go over last minute details during the week
of June 13th.
6.
Phil Deardorf announced that the response to MCA’s
request for the club with the most 64 ½ Mustangs yielded only 4 from
VMOA. Chuck Theuner raised a question as to why MCA didn’t
have more of their shows on the west coast. A discussion followed
regarding MCA’s criteria for selecting National and Grand National
show sites. It was disclosed that MCA sets the dates and sites based
on the regional clubs request to host one of these events. Two to
three years lead time is normal.
7.
A discussion of recent events attended by VMOA included
the Tour to the Hornet Aircraft Carrier and museum on 5/21. Thanks
to Robert Wilson for making the arrangements and leading the tour. It
was our main event for May and included 16 cars and 32 people.
Other May events included the Vet’s car show at the Vet’s hospital in
Palo Alto on 5/28 (11 cars, 22 people), and the Memorial Day parade
and car show in Gilroy on 5/30 (8 cars 16 people). Dale and Linda
Worth and Chuck and Marilyn Brown each won trophies at this
event. The DVMA car show on 5/7 was attended by only 2 VMOA
cars, 3 people. Chuck Brown provided an update to upcoming events
through July. Jenny Jump announced that the Cancer C.A.R.S car
show will be held at Aldo’s restaurant parking lot on July 17. As in
the past she will lead a group of Mustangs and TBirds to the show.
See upcoming events listed in the Newsletter.
8.
After a brief intermission Louise Gibino and the Riccardi’s
presided over the raffle for numerous automotive related prizes.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45
pm.
Respectfully submitted, John O’Toole, Secretary
---------------------Meeting: Board of Directors ; Date: June 21, 2011
Location: Steve Chapman’s Shop: Howard Garage Doors
Meeting called to order by President Steve Chapman at 7:09pm
Present: Officers: President Steve Chapman, Vice president Robert
Wilson, and Secretary John O’Toole. Board Members: Sally O’Toole,
Fred Witlox and Rod Davison. Also Present: Car show co-chair
Myron Moreno, Joe Silva, Editor John Cortez, Carol Davison, Jennifer
Chapman.
1.
The meeting opened at 7:10 with a general discussion of the
club’s 34th annual car show held on 6/18. Final car show registration
was 183 vehicles. T-shirt sales and registration numbers were
discussed and information exchanged among members responsible
for putting on the event. Myron announced that, since the entire car
show committee was not present, a separate debrief meeting of the
committee will be held within the next 2 – 3 weeks. The board
approved the mailing of five registration packets and T-shirts to those
who could not make the show.
2.
Membership. The current roster indicated 113 current
members including 27 comps and 15 MCA members. It was noted that
the MCA requires regional clubs to have at least 10 MCA members in
their current roster. The segregation of the roster into two alphabetical groups was discussed, separating current paid members and
comps from non current members.
3.
Walt Boeninger was not present. He provided an updated
internal use Roster and said he would present the Treasurer’s report
when all the car show costs were in. Treasurer’s reports are available
to any paid VMOA member upon request.
4.
Robert requested copies of the new constitution to include
in the new member packets.
5.
Although not present, Phil and Mary Deardorf presented
their budget for expenditures for the upcoming Poker Run. Costs are
similar to last year except possible charges by wineries for a tasting
fee. The cost per person to participate this year will be $10. The
board approved the budget submitted and will discuss how much of
the costs will be underwritten by the club.
6.
A discussion followed about alternative sites / venues for
the Poker Run in the future. Not all members drink wine and the club
supporting a drinking / driving event was questioned. In addition,
wineries do not usually allow children in their facilities. Other venues
discussed were a scavenger hunt type event and tours to other types
of businesses, like the Chocolate Factory in Gilroy and similar
locations. Further discussion will be scheduled.
7.
Joe Silva and John O’Toole reported that the previously
approved gift to DeAnza College Auto Tech Club has been finalized.
Michael Brandt of DeAnza Auto Tech said a gift of cash to the Auto
Tech Club would be appropriate and would not violate any rules of
the college. The previously approved amount of $2,000 was based on
money earned from prior shows. The board approved an additional
$1,000 be added for the current year to include the lot usage fee of
$300 per year for 2010 and 2011. The presentation will be made at
DeAnza’s Auto Tech Graduation Breakfast this Friday, June 24th.
8.
Sally O’Toole will look into the cost of the club acquiring
one or two easy-ups for the club to use at the carshow and other club
events. The old canopy structure is in the club’s storage facility and
has not been used in several years . It’s bulky, difficult to transport
and time consuming to assemble and disassemble. Sally will report at
the next board meeting.
9.
Further discussion followed regarding the club’s storage
facility. The Shelby club has stored our 8 ft. folding tables and metal
folding chairs for the last two years in their club house facility. Now
they have lost the use of that location and have not yet located a new
one. Myron said that our club’s table and chairs will fit into our
current storage locker, especially if we dispose of the old canopy
structure. The use of an 8 x 16 covered trailer was suggested as an
alternative to our current storage site; with the advantage of being
able to be moved to a site when needed. Myron suggested that the
storage cost for such a vehicle might be about the same as the current
storage facility rental cost. John O’Toole raised the question about
registration and insurance, which he will look into and report at the
next board meeting. Further discussion is needed on this one.
10.
Sally asked that the board approve the funding of two $50
club sponsored awards to be presented at Cherries Jubilee this year.
A motion was made and seconded, followed by a brief discussion
after which the motion was approved.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:52

John O’Toole along with John Cortez , presents the incoming De Anza Auto Tech Club’s President a Check for $3000. The previously
approved amount of $2,000 was based on money earned from prior shows, and the board approved an additional $1,000 be added for the
current year to include the lot usage fee of $300 per year for 2010 and 2011. This presentation was made at De Anza’s Auto Tech Graduation
Breakfast this past Friday, June 24th. The Students gave us a round of applause and several students and faculty personally gave their thanks
to us for the donation from the VMOA. This will go to their club funds for some of the outing and to fund their internal scholarship fund.
