KIRSTIE ALLSOPP`S ON A ROLL
14th July 2011 KIRSTIE ALLSOPP’S ON A ROLL - Kirstie Allsopp to launch range of wallpaper exclusive to B&Q “Given half a chance I would wallpaper every wall of every room in every house I see. I have a genuine love for wallpaper. So imagine how thrilled I was to be given the chance to design my own wallpaper.” Kirstie Allsopp Today, 14 July 2011, B&Q announces that TV presenter and home guru Kirstie Allsopp has designed a collection of wallpapers, available exclusively at the retailer as part of its new autumn winter décor ranges. Kirstie Allsopp has long been a enthusiastic supporter of wallpaper usage in her books and TV programmes, and her range of floral wallpapers, available in six designs, will go on sale in October in B&Q’s largest stores at just £19.98 a roll, a price that makes it accessible to most decorating budgets. This season customers will see a real change in the design led textiles and home accessories at B&Q. The retailer’s buying team has taken a democratic approach when creating the new collection believing that good design should be available to all regardless of budget, designing the ranges with one eye on design and the other on price. There are six designs in Kirstie’s range, exclusively available at B&Q: Edith Elspeth Miranda Kirstie goes on to say; “It pays to be bold these days – it’s all about statements and being brave enough to do something you love.” B&Q offers wallpapering classes in its 15 You Can Do It Centres across the UK and will be rolling these out to 35 stores by the end of the year for those who feel brave enough to have a go themselves. The idea of wallpaper, first came about over 500 years ago, with original designs being hand-painted or stencilled to imitate the styles, patterns and textures of fabrics or wall coverings that would have been fashionable at the time. It wasn’t until the 1800’s when a Lancashire firm developed a machine to make the first manufactured wallpaper, that the product became affordable for everyone. The popularity of wallpaper has been steadily growing after and today B&Q sells over nine million rolls of wallpaper a year making it the largest retailer of wallpaper in the UK.
