And others, who seem decided on making our life impossible. Those who make life easier, it isn’t because they are not smart or slow. It may be that the task of facilitating is personally costing them a lot. It may seem that this isn’t what John is referring to, but to something much greater: getting the road ready for the arrival of God himself. But, if we think about it well, we realize that these are the same Prepare people who make life easier, those who iron out the differences, the road and facilitate things, those who can bring us closer to Jesus. The for the gentleness, the good example of sacrificing for others has greater coming power than the bitterness and difficulties that we sometimes put of the on each other. When John says you must get the road ready, he Lord. is referring, yes, to great things, such as justice, integrity, to opening up with God, but first you must start with the smaller things. To bring other people to Jesus we must open the path to gentleness and joy. To allow Jesus to reach us, we must smooth out those harsh aspects in us that can close the roads: the bitterness, resentments, selfishness, and the lack of gratitude. For Reflection What aspects are in my life that can close the road toward Jesus for me or others? In addition, Advent celebrations and the readings of the Scripture lead us to grow deeper into the salvation offered by the coming of Christ into the world. At the beginning of December we celebrate the novena of Guadalupe, which ends on the 12th with the Mañanitas, Mass, and a breakfast celebration. It is followed by beginning of the Posadas and all their significance in the opening to Christ and to hospitality. From the 17th on, we begin praying the O Antiphons as an immediate preparation for Christmas. The Advent wreath accompanies us throughout this entire season, as a visible sign of our waiting. St. Vincent DePaul St. Vincent DePaul is in need of your help to fill their pantry. Next Sunday, Dec 16 we will collect contributions of nonperishable food ítems or paper products of any kind. Leave your donation in the back of Church. We also accept donations at the Parish Center. Monetary donations are also gratefully accepted. Helpers of God’s Most Precious Infants This is a weekly pro-life prayer group that meets every Thursday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass, in the chapel, to pray for the end of abortions. We welcome those who would like to join us. #ote from the Editor The readings of the Old Testament, taken mostly from the prophetic books, offer a vision of harsh reality, but one of hope for abundance and joy. It speaks of a time filled with the consolation of a new world. The second readings are taken from the letters and offer a vision of the certainty of salvation in Christ. In all the readings taken from the Gospels, one is encouraged to remain vigilant and to have a joyful hope in the Christ that comes to save. In December we also celebrate several significant feast days such as St. Francis Xavier, the patron of missions; St. John of the cross, the greatest Spanish mystical author; St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, the patroness of immigrants. It is a packed month, in which it is good to emphasize silence to soften a little the haste and the frenetic activity of festivities and preparations. St. Peregrine Prayer Group This prayer group meets on Wednesdays in the chapel at 2.10 p.m., to pray for those who have cancer or other very serious health problems. Please join us for 35 minutes of prayer for your loved one/s who struggle with cancer. Cemetery Reminder Only one arrangement can be placed on each grave. December is a very busy month. I ask that if you have an article that needs to be entered in the bulletin, December 16, December 23, and December 30, please submit your article in writing, as soon as possible. For more information, call Donna 815.625.0640. St. Mary School Gift Cards If you shop at Kroger Grocery Store and would like to help out St. Mary’s School, we have a great way for you to do this.
