Dear Society Members, CFA Candidates, Partners and Friends,
We present the second issue of our Newsletter. Recent activities of the board were concentrated on
planned events in 2014, including activities related to Growth Funding obtained by our society.
The important part of Growth Funding activities are within the area of University Outreach. Students
and recent graduates are the main CFA Exam Candidates in our country, being also our important
stakeholders.
Two main activities planned in University Outreach are:
Participation in Career Days organized by AIESEC, this is the largest such event for students,
organized by March in seven cities: Cracow, Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, Warsaw, Wroclaw,
Lodz;
CFA Days organized in several universities in April and May; this event will consist of
lecture, workshop and promotion of CFA designation and CFA Research Challenge.
We have just completed the fifth edition of CFA Research Challenge. The company covered by
students report was Netia. The winner, team from Wroclaw University of Economics, will participate
in EMEA final in Milan.
The next event will be held on 27th of March, organized jointly with colleagues from ACCA.

Final CFA Institute Research Challenge
On Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Warsaw Stock Exchange was held the Local
Final of the world’s premier investment research competition - CFA
Institute Research Challenge.
Four teams from Polish universities participated this year: Wroclaw
University of Economics, Katowice University of Economics, Poznan
University of Economics and University of Warsaw. The Final Round was
opened by the President of CFA Society Poland – prof. Krzysztof Jajuga.
Final presentations were judged by the 5 experienced investment
professionals (Przemysław Barankiewicz, CFA; Rafał Mania, CFA;
Aleksander Mokrzycki, CFA; Piotr Osiecki, CFA; Piotr Sieradzan, CFA).
According to the rules of the competition, after the written reports and
presentations, the winners were defined. The winning university was again
the Wroclaw University of Economics. Prof. Krzysztof Jajuga

congratulated the winners and thanked all participants for their efforts
and determination.
After the jury verdict Wojciech Zajac from the winning team said: The
challenge was really demanding, yet rewarding. We had to work hard for last
three months to overcome fierce competition and to impress the jury. Now we
look forward to the EMEA finals in April.
The winning team from Wroclaw will represent Poland at the regional
EMEA level in Milan, on 1-2 April 2014. Afterwards the winners from
each regional competitions held in Asia-Pacific, EMEA, and the
Americas, will advance to the Global Final. This year the Global Final,
will be held in Singapore, on 25 April 2014. It is worth to emphasize that
the winner of the Global final CFA Institute Research Challenge 2013
was Wrocław University of Economics.

AIESEC Career Days is an annual event of AIESEC which aims to
create an interactive bridge between companies, organizations and
students.
During this event young people can learn how to become a member of
a global community of investment professionals dedicated to high
ethical and educational standards and efficient markets.
It is also a great opportunity to find out how to prepare for CFA exams
and how CFA charter can help in developing your career.

Forecasts for Polish labor market in 2014

Forecasts for Polish labor market in 2014 are rather optimistic. The financial
services market is to be further consolidated and because of that, some
problems with doubling the positions of managerial staff might appear.
Uncertainty around the Open Pension Funds (OFE) might force to

market are starting to think about leaving the capital market. We can still

CFA Institute: PC Chair Election Results
The voting for the Presidents Council Chair election concluded on
Monday, 10 March 2014, and the results subsequently were reviewed
and verified by the Presidents Council Nominating Committee.
We are pleased to inform you that Dan Fasciano, CFA, officially was
elected as Presidents Council Chair for a two-year term commencing 1
September 2014. . We wish to thank Arthur Thompson, CFA and Jason
Bell, CFA for conducting a well-run campaign for this position and for
their time, effort and willingness to continue their volunteer service.
We wish to also thank the 2014 Presidents Council Nominating
Committee for their time and commitment to the elections process.
