Directions
Travelling from Norwich on the A140, continue through Long Stratton to the
Tivetshall roundabout and turn right on to the B1134. Proceed over the level

on the right hand side.
Location
Gissing is a rural village situated in South Norfolk, four miles north of the
Georgian market town of Diss on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders. The A140
provides easy access to the Cathedral City of Norwich, 18 miles to the north
with its International Airport and historic City centre, renowned for its
architecture, culture, theatres and restaurants. The Suffolk Heritage Coast
and Southwold with its theatre and boutique shops are approximately 35
miles distance and Ipswich is 30 miles. The Georgian market towns of
Harleston, Bungay and Beccles are situated on the River Waveney and are

Gissing Hall is set back from the road behind

through gates mounted on plinths with finials,
leading to Chequer’s Lane. The Hall, with
elevations adorned with climbing roses, stands in
attractive private grounds and gardens. The lawns,
rose trellises and bushes, a croquet lawn, and a
part walled garden provides an ambience of
tranquility. A bridged pond provides a habitat for
duck and wildlife is ideal for photo shoots.
Extending to some 16,000 sq ft, Gissing Hall
comprises on the ground floor two entrance halls, 4
reception rooms, and 3 bedrooms for elderly or
immobile guests. A ballroom adjoins a permanent
marquee and to the rear is a restaurant, bar area
and gallery with access to a terrace.
On the first floor are 8 bedrooms with en-suite

The oldest central section of The Hall is partly pre
Tudor, 1479, but mostly 17th century. The South
facing front (1823-1828) is late Georgian (George
IV). This former country house includes particular
features such as stepped gables on the south side;
a crenellated clock tower with mullion and sash
windows; and a central tower with embattled
parapet and a lantern with a wind vane. The older
section is evidently seen from the eastern
elevation, nestled between a 20th Century northern
extension.
The Business
Gissing Hall was converted from a country house
into a hotel by the present private owners and
provides a popular wedding venue, licensed to
perform civil ceremonies and civil partnerships.
The Hall is used for conferences with four function
rooms and a permanent marquee; the maximum
number of delegates is 200. Gissing Hall offers half
day, full day and 24 hour delegate rates.
The 23 Bedrooms range from four-poster suites
with Jacuzzi bathrooms to large and smaller
doubles and twins. The majority of bedrooms are
en-suite with bath or shower rooms, and have tea
and coffee making facilities and televisions. Wifi
access is available to all guests in the bar,
restaurant, morning room and drawing room, and in
certain bedrooms. Prices range from £65 for single
occupancy to £135 for four posters with Jacuzzi.
The hotel is licensed and the Gallery Restaurant
with approximately 70 covers, specializes in classic
and contemporary dishes cooked fresh, using
locally sourced ingredients where possible.
The turnover for the business in the last 3 years
has been £425,804 for 2009, £427,374 for 2009
and £399,789 for 2010. Gissing Hall is now being
sold due to retirement.
In the event that a purchaser may wish to convert
the Hall back into a country house, an application
has been submitted to South Norfolk District
Council for residential use.

The Hall has a southern aspect overlooking lawned
gardens sheltered by Yew hedging and surrounded
by a circular Lime Tree avenue leading to Studio
