[CO-PRODUCTION EVENT]
CO-PRODUCING WITH DENMARK
DANISH FILM INSTITUTE
International Department
The Danish Film Institute has established an
international department with the remit of
advising Danish producers on international
funding possibilities, while being the contactpoint for international producers seeking
information on the Danish production landscape
and financing possibilities.
Minority Co-Production Funding
Applications will be evaluated based on
the following criteria:
The purpose of funding co-productions is to
strengthen partnerships and creative exchange
between Danish and international producers. DFI
highly values the opportunities that coproduction can provide for the Danish industry international financing, cultural and business
exchange and distribution - and therefore
encourages these partnerships.
•Creative strength.
•Creative and financial collaboration between the
Danish company and its co-producer, including
previous projects and future plans.
•The level of creative and technical collaboration,
the participation of Danish talent and crew and
the overall Danish spend.
•The nature of the distribution deal signed by the
producer.
Requirements for applying for subsidies
The DFI is able to allocate funding up to a
maximum of 60% of the Danish spend.
DFI can fund 6-9 minor co-productions per year.
The annual budget amounts to DKK 12 mio.
•The application must be submitted by a Danish
production company
•There must be Danish creative or technical
participation in the production
•There must be a distribution deal for theatrical
distribution in Denmark or broadcast on national
Danish TV.
•The financing in the major co-producing country
has to be in place.
Applications are submitted to DFI's International
Producer Noemi Ferrer, and are assessed by a DFI
panel consisting of Commissioning Editors, the
Head of Development for Feature Film, the
International Producer, the Film Controller and
the Head of Production and Development.

CO-PRODUCING WITH DENMARK
REGIONAL DANISH FILM FUNDS
The regional film funds make an important
contribution to the success of Danish films and
television. Denmark’s three funds are stepping up
internationally.
COPENHAGEN FILM FUND
The Copenhagen Film Fund was founded in 2013
by initiative of the Producers Association as a
partnership
between
eight
Copenhagen
municipalities, the Capital Region and a number
of players in the local film industry. The Fund has
a budget of 4.7 million euros up to 2016.
The fund’s prime purpose is to invest in
international and Danish film and television
productions, to be produced in the member
municipalities and distributed both nationally and
internationally.
The Copenhagen Film Fund primarily invests in
international productions of high artistic merit
and with Danish co-producers, or Danish projects
with substantial international financing and
distribution in place. The fund’s focus is on
productions wholly or partly shot in the region.
Copenhagen Film Fund is managed by Thomas
Gammeltoft.
cphfilmfund.com
THE WEST DANISH FILM FUND
The West Danish Film Fund, located in Denmark’s
second biggest city, Aarhus, annually invests
around 1.5 million euros in film and media
production. Its efforts go beyond funding and
include equipment, professional film studios and
film workers, an industrial park, training and
talent development, as well as servicing the film
industry in terms of location scouting and
partnering.
The Fund supports and invests in coproductions
that have Danish artistic or technical participation
with a connection to the region.
The Fund is raising its international profile by
establishing a film and media commission. This
will enhance the West Danish Film Fund’s
visibility on the international stage and its
readiness to enter into minor and major
coproductions. West Danish Film Fund is
managed by Carsten Holst.
filmpuljen.dk
FILM FYN
FilmFyn is located on the island of Funen and
manages an annual budget of 1.5 million euros,
of which more than 1 million euros is invested in
feature films and television series shot on
location in the area.
The fund primarily gives support to feature films,
but any film with investment potential will be
considered, based on the local spend in the seven
municipalities
behind
FilmFyn.
Danish
productions or international productions with a
Danish minor co-producer will typically be
required to locally spend more than 200% of the
investment granted.
FilmFyn in 2013 took the initiative to establish
Film Commission Fyn, in part to be better able to
guide international producers to the right
locations, people, facilities and re-sources
available in the area.
FilmFyn is managed by Bo Damgaard.

Tine Grew Pfeiffer
SEX, DRUGS & TAXATION is Tine Grew Pfeiffer’s sixth
feature film as a producer in collaboration with Christoffer
Boe under the auspices of Alphaville Pictures Copenhagen.
Tine Grew Pfeiffer graduated from the National Film School
of Denmark as a producer in 2001. Her collaboration with
Christoffer Boe began as early as film school with VIRGINITY
(1999) and their joint graduation film, ANXIETY (2001). Her
actual film career began in the mid-1990s as personal
assistant to Lars von Trier and assistant to producer Vibeke
Windeløv at Zentropa Productions. Here she was involved
in such productions as BREAKING THE WAVES (1996), THE
IDIOTS (1998), DANCER IN THE DARK (2000) and DOGVILLE
(2003). Following graduation from film school, Boe and
Pfeiffer founded Alphaville Pictures Copenhagen in 2003
and continued their collaboration with their feature-debut
RECONSTRUCTION (2003), which won the Camera d’Or at
the Cannes Film Festival that same year. The two went on
producing the films ALLEGRO (2005), OFFSCREEN (2006),
which won the Altre Visioni award at the Venice Film
Festival, EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE (2010), BEAST (2011)
and SEX, DRUGS & TAXATION (2013), which is Boe’s most
commercial film to date.
Alphaville Pictures Copenhagen is completing Jonas Arnby’s
feature-debut, WHEN ANIMALS DREAM, which is expected
to have it’s national premiere in summer 2014.

POLAND
CO-PRODUCING WITH POLAND
POLISH FILM INSTITUTE
With a budget of 22 mln Euro for production
Polish Film Institute subsidies about 40 feature
films per year. There is no separate funding for
the minority co-productions, however each year
3-6 minority feature projects are supported.
Minority Co-productions
•The maximum subsidy is of ca. 475.000 Euro and
cannot be higher than 50% of the Polish financing.
•The application must be submitted by a
producer based in an EEA country, but it is
strongly advised to have a Polish co-producer.
The project in general must follow the
requirements set in the European Convention on
Co-production:
•Polish contribution must account for at least
20% of the total budget in bilateral co-production
(10% in case of a multilateral co-production).
•At least 80% of the subsidy must be spent in
Poland.
•There must be an LOI from a Polish distributor.
•The remaining sources of financing must be
confirmed by LOI’s, memo-deals or co-production
agreements.
The artistic contribution must be adequate to
the requested subsidy and meet the following
minimum requirements:
•Features: at least one Polish Head of
Department (DoP, Set Designer, Editor,
Composer).
•Animation: producing part of the animation in
Poland, and at least one Polish artist (Director of
Animation, Storyboard Writer, Author of Artistic
Project, Composer).
•Documentaries: at least one of the following:
Use of Polish Archives, Polish character or
subject, Polish artist (DoP, Composer, Editor).
Polish Director
If the director of the film is of Polish nationality,
there apply rules of a majority co-production
even if Polish financing accounts for less than
50% of the budget, which means that the project
can apply for up to ca. 950.000 Euro.
Evaluation of the project
•Projects are assessed by committees of experts
appointed from amongst representatives of the
Polish film industry. However, the final decision
rests with the Director of the Polish Film Institute.
•Co-production projects are evaluated on artistic
potential and on the level of creative and
technical participation of Polish talents and crew.
•The decisions are issued within ninety days of
the session.
•The decision is valid for six months and can be
extended by a maximum of a further six months.
