Senior Digital Advertising Manager, Tampa Bay Times and tampabay.com Maryann Balbo is the senior digital advertising manager for the Tampa Bay Times and its website, tampabay.com. Maryann spent 14 years in the broadcast and cable business. She started as a master control operator and has worked in a variety of roles, including broadcast engineer, producer, program director, marketing manager, and community and sales director. Before joining the Times in 2009, Maryann was the director of sales, marketing and community relations at NBC 17 in Raleigh, N.C. where she led the development of the broadcast’s first innovative hyper local website, MyNC.com. She also led a team of web-only sellers and initiated a pro-active approach to community-generated content from a team of seven community content liaisons, and managed the marketing department for the web. Maryann also served in a variety of marketing and sales leadership roles at Disney-owned and operated WTVD-ABC in Durham, N.C. and Time Warner Cable/AOL in Raleigh, N.C. Maryann grew up in Watertown, N.Y. and attended General Brown High School and SUNY Cortland. In 2011, Maryann was a finalist for the Business Woman of the Year, awarded by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, and she was featured on the cover of Target Marketing Magazine. Maryann has spent much of her career actively involved in industry organizations at the state and national level, and she is a frequent public speaker presenting on media and digital. Outside the office, Maryann and her husband live in Tampa with their very active toddler, Mason. Most of her personal time is devoted to trying to keep up with her “way-too-smart” little boy, her hubby and their two Australian Shepherds. Jon, her husband, works at a local broadcast station, and the media couple frequently competes in the professional world. However, Maryann likes to remind him she works for the Florida’s largest newspaper ... and she usually wins.
