Bridal Guide - Mendakota Country Club
History of the Mendakota Country Club M endakota had its beginning in 1925 on a makeshift 5-hole golf course on Dakota County farmland. Louis and Laura Fischer had farmed the property since 1918. When Louis became interested in golf, he attempted to get his neighbors interested by constructing a course on his own land. His efforts were successful and the game caught on. This prompted him to establish a 9-hole course and organize a club the following year. The club was called Riverview Golf Club and used the Fischer barn as its clubhouse. In January of 1957, the club officially became known as “Mendakota Country Club”. In May, 1959, a remodeling program was completed. The converted barn clubhouse was remodeled to country club standards with a pro shop, common lounge, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and utility rooms on the ground floor. The second floor was converted to an office and club room. This was a proud day for the shareholder-members of the new Mendakota Country Club. In 1965 through 1967, the golf course experienced additional renovation and remodification. And on March 17, 1989 a new era at Mendakota Country Club began with the opening of our new 25,000 square foot clubhouse. In the winter of 2008 our clubhouse underwent construction to refresh and expand our facility. Reopening on April 3, 2008, our clubhouse offers a variety of sophisticated spaces suitable for business meetings, privately catered functions, socializing and dining at its best. Mendakota Country Club offers our membership a wide array of event accommodations, ranging in style and scope from the casual ladies’ card luncheon to the grand wedding of the year. Our club boasts three picturesque dining rooms. Surrounded by spacious windows and spectacular year round scenery, rich oak millwork, beautiful cathedral ceiling of the Lakeside gives of an air of fine ambiance. The Lakeside Dinning Room, with a capacity of more than 300 seated, is our largest banquet room. You want it to be special and memorable for many people so you must start with an understanding that choices have to be made with consideration of several factors. One is the style of your wedding and budget decisions. Usually, the bride’s parents pay for the wedding. But this can be a costly expense if you and your fiance want a wedding with all the trimmings. So you may want to sit down with both families and discuss the costs and the best solution for everyone. Many times how involved the groom’s family is depends on the bride’s discussion of the limitations of the budget. It may affect the guest list so they may want to share the expenses. You can avoid any misunderstanding by sharing the information and making the groom’s family more involved than traditionally is the case. All of these costs and decisions are discussed in this book and it should be a useful tool in planning all the details to make a well organized plan. If the groom’s family helps in the cost of the reception, their names should be included on the invitations. Planning to bring all your loved ones, relatives and friends together on one day takes a lot of work and coordination that can be very time consuming. Now is the time to organize all the particulars and ask for help. As a rule, the families of the bride and groom and the maid of honor are your team to help you. Many decisions must be made, but as you choose, remember not everyone will agree. It is your day. What you want to do is most important and should be the final decision. To make this one of the happiest days of your life, all you must keep in mind is, what is the purpose of this day—to ask all your family and friends to join in the celebration of your love. w 10 Responsibility for expenses Who is typically responsible for payment?
