A Note from Fr. Craig
Dear Parishioners,
It is good to be back from vacation. I went to the Teddy Roosevelt
National Park in North Dakota. I had good weather for the trip. It was
nice and cool. It was 70 during the day and 50 at night. I camped in a
beautiful park. My little dogs were very interested in the prairie dogs.
I do want you to know that we have a new deacon in the parish being
ordained August 6th at 10am at the Cathedral. Kevin Fuller will be
ordained and he will preach his first Mass at 10am on August 7th. We
congratulate Kevin, his wife Jen and their children.
I thank our festival committee for working so hard on our festival. It will
be September 11th. We still need donations for the silent auction and
food items. Please continue to sell your raffle tickets.
School will be starting soon. If you are new to our parish, we have a
school and there is room for your child. I hope you are able to come and
visit it.
Have a great week.
Fr. Craig
If you want to grow in faith and deepen your
relationship with Jesus, please give this some
thought.
Volunteering in the Religious Education Program at St. Leo will help in so
many ways. We need faith-filled people. We need good role models. We
need those willing to share their faith. We need those who want to put
their faith into action.
We have different ways you can help. We will help you find the best way
to utilize your gifts. You can meet new people and become part of a
GREAT faith community. If you think you’ve got what it takes… you’re
probably right! Please contact Sue at 402-397-0407 or email Sue
at reled@stleo.net.

Wednesday, August 3rd - 7:00-8:00pm
St. Pius X Parish Center, 6905 Blondo Street
Do you wrestle with some Church teachings as they affect your life or the

How do you form a right conscience?
Join us on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 7 PM at St. Pius X Parish
Center (6905 Blondo) for a presentation on the primacy of conscience.
Fr. Mike Eckley will help you understand how a properly formed

speaking truly in your heart.
Fr. Mike will give an overview of Church teachings on conscience and
equip you with some prayerful ways to form a right conscience that is
grounded in the word of God and not your ego.

In Pursuit of Life, Love
and Happiness
By: Deacon Jim Shipman
Some of us can remember when
a television was a luxury, and
having a color television was very
special. Most of us can remember
when cell phones were the size of
brick, a twenty mega bite
computer was the best and VHS
videos were the rage. I think all us
should be a little embarrassed at
the number of things we now
possess in our homes. Our modern
culture of consumerism is so caught
up in having the latest gadgets,
that we are forgetting what is
important in life.
Our opening scripture from
Ecclesiastes reminds us that all
these things we toil to buy are all
vanities. All the work and anxiety
to obtain the best, the latest and
greatest is not what we need to
focus on. Our Gospel from Luke
reminds us to guard against greed
and that life does not consist of
possessions. Jesus tells us the
parable of a man so caught up
with greed and self-satisfaction
that he has forgotten who has
given him his life and all that he
possesses. Jesus’ point is that we
should not store up treasure for
ourselves but treasure in heaven,
because that is what matters to
God.
Our second reading is the key
to understand what God is trying
to tell us this week. Paul says in his
letter to the Colossians, “If you
were raised with Christ, seek what
is above, where Christ is seated at
the right hand of God. Think of
what is above, not of what is on
earth. For you have died, and
your life is hidden with Christ in
God”. If we really want to be
Christian then we need to try to
live in union with our Lord Jesus.
Paul also says, we must put to
death all that is immoral, impure,
evil desires, and greed which is a
form of idolatry. We must
become a new creation in Christ
Jesus, because Christ is ALL and in
ALL.
