FOLLOWING A DREAM
Twenty years after the opening of the first Fiesta Hotel
in Ibiza, Palladium Hotel Group is considered to be the
seventh largest hotel chain in Spain. The creative vision
and the management style of the Matutes family now
form the very essence of the Palladium Hotel Group
we know today.
ABEL MATUTES JUAN
This is a very particular story of a dream come
true. Abel Matutes Juan is the creator and owner
of the company Palladium Hotel Group, former
Fiesta Hotels & Resorts, and Grupo Empresas
Matutes. He radiates charisma and has a brilliant
mind with a persistent tendency to always look
toward the future. Even at 75, he has the brash
confidence of youth, and yet his experience
of yesteryear provides a fitting chorus to his
leadership.
Abel Matutes Juan was born in Ibiza in 1941.
Growing up, he had been greatly influenced
by the idea of his family of becoming a banker,
therefore, he studied Law and Economics.
Although his career decision was to become a
politician and he served in different positions
during his career, including the one of Spain's
Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 2000
and a European Commissioner, he claims he is a
born businessman. He has also been involved in
aviation, biotechnology and banking companies
and is a proud father of four. He started on
the pathway to achieving business success in
his native island of Ibiza where he has opened
several different companies.
In the late sixties, young Abel Matutes Juan
started to work on his dream of bringing Paradise
closer to travellers. He planned and designed
the most exclusive accommodation where
luxury, quality and the best service would be its
main pillars. At age 21, he had already opened
his first hotel in Ibiza, the family’s first venture
into the hotel business. From then on, the
Matutes family continued growing their passion,
as they expanded their hotel chain in world´s
most emblematic destinations including the
Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil and Jamaica.In 2007,
Abel Matutes Juan was succeeded as president
by his son Abel Matutes Prats Today, he remains
a crucial figure, providing strong foundations in
the business of Palladium Hotel Group, where he
executes as a chairman of the company´s board.
Together, father and son continue creating and
building their mutual dream.

ABEL MATUTES PRATS
Abel Matutes Prats is the youngest of four
siblings of the new generation of the Matutes
Grupo Empresas Matutes. After spending his
early teens in Brussels while his father worked
as a European Commissioner, Abel went to
Madrid to finish high school and then graduated
from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid with a
Bachelor's Degree in Economics. He returned
to Ibiza to join the family hotel business and
continued as an intern in the Group's resorts in
the Caribbean in 1999. He attended Citigroup's
University Wealth Management Course in New
York in 2005.
Abel was only twenty-nine back in 2006 when
he was named CEO of Palladium Hotel Group
and Vice President of Grupo Empresas Matutes
following his father´s footsteps. He claims to
have learned a lot from his father, but also
demonstrates a strong personality and the
capacity of a great business leader.
Although his mother, Nieves, persuaded him
not to follow the passion he had for becoming a
racing driver, he kept his adrenaline for business
management. In 2010, he invested in innovation,
technology and originality by supporting and
helping to create a unique concept of a hotel
that would fuse luxury accommodation with
the world´s best DJ performances. The new
Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel was ready to change
the island of Ibiza. Six years later, Abel´s vision
is a confirmed success. In fact, the family is so
satisfied with its investment at Ushuaïa Ibiza
Beach Hotel that they are breaking ground on a
second hotel with the same concept in Cancun.
Abel is thirty-nine now, close to the age his
father was when the hotel chain expanded to
the Canary Islands. He's a father of four and,
already famous for being an extraordinary
businessman.
In 2012, the company took another decisive
step towards the future and renewed the image
of the chain Fiesta Hotels & Resorts under the
label Palladium Hotel Group. This proved as
another successful decision and the group’s
well-defined 9 brand concepts continue to
create unique experiences for specific target
groups to this day.
The same year, Abel received a Medal for
Tourism Achievement in Innovation awarded
by the Council of Ministers of Spain for his
capacity for innovation that made him a key
player in the transformation and revitalization
of the Playa d'en Bossa area (Ibiza) with the
inauguration of hotels such as Ushuaïa Ibiza
Beach Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, and Grand
Palladium White Island Resort & Spa.

In 2012, Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort &
Spa, achieved five-star status, becoming part of

refurbishment of the three-star Fiesta Hotel Palm
Beach allowed us to create a five-star Luxury resort integrating the new Grand Palladium White Island Resort

HARD ROCK HOTEL IBIZA
In 2014 the establishments of two three-star hotels
were fully refurbished to transform into Hard Rock
Hotel Ibiza, the first hotel of the international brand
in Europe. The hotel, managed by Palladium Hotel
Group, was recognized as Brand Ambassador of the
Year by Hard Rock International in 2014.
HARD ROCK HOTEL TENERIFE
Following the successful European debut with Hard
Rock Hotel Ibiza, Hard Rock’s second project in
collaboration with Palladium Hotel Group, the exclusive
Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife is set to open in late 2016.
The new 624-room, five-star beachfront resort is to be
inaugurated as a result of a complete renovation of the

cafes, 23 hotels and 11 casinos, Hard Rock
International (HRI) is one of the most globally
recognized companies. HRI owns the global
trademark for all Hard Rock brands. The
company licenses and/or manages hotel/
casino properties worldwide. However,
they have also approved a small group of
companies allowed to manage their own Hard
Rock hotels.
Palladium Hotel Group is one of them, taking
on the opening of the first Hard Rock Hotel in
Europe, inaugurated in 2014. Our team went
through a very intense training to be able to
recreate the right vibe that defines this legendary
Brand as different and unique. There is a small
specialized department within Palladium Hotel

Children of the '80s staged a spectacular International Show

In Heaven is an innovative show that caused a real stir at Ibiza’s
highest sky lounge, The Ninth. It consists of four acts that combine
different artistic styles, from Flamenco fusion to Portuguese Fado,
with classic and electric guitars playing side-by-side, and a pole
dance number with an Indian sitar and African music. Audience
participation is encouraged by the entire cast throughout the
show. For a complete sensory experience, guests are offered
a series of specially-created dishes in every act to surprise their
palates and enhance their visual and audio perceptions.

Following the success of Hard Rock Hotel

open another branded property on Tenerife´s
southern coast near Adeje in autumn 2016.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES
For two consecutive years, our HR Department launched the Executive Development Programme and
that will allows candidates and interns to develop
their professional careers in Palladium Hotel Group's
hotels and offices in the Americas and Europe. These
programs seek to develop and improve management
skills, strengthen leadership skills, exchange ideas
between people from different backgrounds and experience, and improve knowledge of all departments
that would greatly enhance future management abilities.
Also, we are currently selecting future hotel managers
for Europe and the Americas within our strategic plan
for expansion and growth in these regions.
