The Autumn Historic Folklife Festival is a highlight
W
elcome to the 32nd annual Autumn Historic Folklife Festival.
On behalf of the Hannibal Arts Council volunteers, members, board
of directors and staff we would like to thank you for attending this
year's event....a Hannibal favorite...and the hundreds of community
volunteers who give their time and talent each year to really make
the event successful!
The Autumn Historic Folklife Festival is a highlight on the annual
calendar of local events. Locals and visitors alike enjoy attending
the "Folklife," as those familiar with the event call it. It seems so
strange that something like a festival would have a life of its own
and have the ability to create an identity all to itself. Maybe it's
atmosphere, the time of year, the tradition and the feeling we get
when we attend. Maybe it's the quality exhibitors, the great music
and the fabulous food! Regardless of the reason, Folklife's success
has been established in its 32 year history a sense of homecoming,
reunion and "a place to be" to us in Hannibal.
Thank you again for attending... and have a GREAT time!

AUTUMN HISTORIC FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL
October 17-18, 2009

Proceeds from this Souvenir Booklet help support
the FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL and the:
TOM & BECKY PROGRAM
The Tom & Becky Program has been sponsored by the Hannibal Chamber
of Commerce since 1956. One boy and one girl are chosen each year to
serve as the official Tom & Becky, with four other couples as alternates.
This year's Tom & Becky are: Back Row L-R: Allison Hudson, Candice
Hudson, Ashley Cummins, Katherine Altheide, Kristen Dodd. Front
Row L-R: Matt Karr Alec Voss, Joseph White, Louis Burton, Anthony
Hodgson.
The primary function of the program is to let these young people
serve as goodwill ambassadors for Hannibal and to promote tourism
in the community. It is also a program where those involved become
thoroughly familiar with Mark Twain, his life and his literature. It is
hoped that long after their year is over, the youngsters will remember
the important part Mark Twain played in American literature, more
about the history of Hannibal and gain personal strengths that will
last a lifetime.

An enjoyable 1 hour tour of the
cave Mark Twain explored and
wrote about in the Adventures
of Tom Sawyer. An experienced
guide will escort you through the
cave while showing you the formations and passageways carved
out of limestone years ago by an
underground stream. The cave
system is well lit. Walkways are
level, smooth and there are no
steps. Bring a light wrap, as the
cave is 52 degrees all year, and
wear sensible walking shoes.
