Then-Commissioner Lew Weatherspoon unseated incumbent Mayor R.H. Ellington by a threevote margin. The Mayor-elect, accompanied by his wife, Peggy, was administered the oath of office by the Honorable District Court Judge Caron Stewart, featured at top, far left. Mayor Pro Tem/Commissioner Bob Smith, top right, and bottom left, incumbent Commissioner Craig Honeycutt —assisted by his daughter, Savannah — were sworn in for another term. At left, former Mayor R.H. Ellington — shown with his wife, Jeanne — was honored with a Key to the Town, and will have the Town’s Depot Square renamed in his honor — Ellington Square. On Facebook, make sure to “Like” Town Angier and Angier Museum to see our weekday updates. Smoke Testing The Public Works Department will be performing smoke tests on the sewer line. Smoke may rise from the ground, stream banks, storm drains, manholes, vents on building roofs and clean-outs. Residents should not be alarmed. The smoke is non-toxic, nonstaining, has a mild odor and creates no fire hazards. Raleigh St. ~ ~ An Update on the November Election Tues., Feb. 2 7 pm Town Board Offices Closed B Y The dozens of vocalists on the Harnett Central High’s Vocal Ensemble placed first in the WRAL FM-101.5 Christmas Carol Competition. They walked away with the $ 5,000 grand prize, which will go towards their Carnegie Hall trip to New York City this spring. Congratulations! Come by Town Hall to pick up a free 2016 Trash and Recycle magnet for your fridge! Drop by Town Hall for a NOTES: As a reminder, water bills are due by the 10th of each month. Customers are granted a grace period to pay their bills by the 20th before penalties are imposed. There is a $ 35 late fee for the first offense and $ 50 thereafter. You may pay online, via mail, by phone, leave in our Drop Box out front, in person, or pay via automatic draft. Greetings to the fine citizens of Angier ~ I am proud to have served two years as commissioner and look forward to serving you four more years as the mayor of this great Town of Angier. I am appreciative of everyone’s support and with the Town Board, the Town administrators, the Town staff and citizens to move our town forward in the next four years. I am very excited about the projects we have under way, including implementing a pump station and new water tank in the Johnson’s Landing area; continuing to work with CAMPO and the NCDOT for improvements to Highway 55 and working with our consultants, Town officials and our citizens to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Plan to enhance the growth in our area. There have also been some questions as to how citizens may contact the Angier Police Department during and after hours. For all emergencies, please dial 911. For all nonlife-threatening emergencies during the evenings, holidays and weekends, you are asked to dial 910.893. 9111.For general questions, please contact the Angier Police Department at 919.639.2699. ~Angier Mayor Lewis Weatherspoon ~ Parks and Recreation Registration for spring sports (April through June) is slated to begin Feb. 15 and span through March 18. Check out the Angier Parks and Rec information on the Town website, ww.angier.org, or visit the Angier Parks and Recreation page on Facebook. The Town website will provide information on registering kids for baseball, boys, aged 4 to 17 and girls, 4 to 8; and fastpitch softball for girls aged 9 to 15. Parents can fax their registration forms to Angier Parks and Rec at 919.639.6130, they can mail checks (made payable to the Town of Angier) to Parks and Rec at PO Box 278, Angier NC 27501-0278 or drop their forms and checks off at Angier Town Hall between the hours of 7:30 am and 5:30 pm daily. Thank you. Other Announcements Waste Industries continues to collect the Town’s trash each Friday and recyclables every other Friday. Please note that recyclable materials should be placed directly into the green cart without plastic bags and not commingled with the regular trash. Please place only trash in your gray cart and only recyclables inside your recycle cart. This process will reduce high levels of contamination. Thank you.
