Our positive outlook enables us to identify opportunities in challenges and allows us to create new benchmarks in the industry. Our ability to learn from the success stories of others, not only by understanding their best practices but also by studying their shortcomings, has helped us to evolve into a Group with a hunger to succeed. We have initiated a sustainable journey of transformation by foraying into new international markets, and exploring new business areas to keep our entrepreneurial spirit alive, and to continue growing. Our endeavor is to create value for our stakeholders through strengthening of operations in our core sectors, through world-class operating standards and state-of-the-art technology. For us to achieve our vision, it is essential that we focus on defining a process and work towards achieving Business Process Excellence. We encourage a proactive attitude against a reactive one, an attitude that believes in changing in order to create a more effective and efficient business process. This is with intent to give shape to the existing business excellence practices and to improve capabilities and results. We also look forward to create a common measure to calibrate excellence across Abhijeet Group and implement the learning on the existing and new ventures. A few years back, we began with a dream, a dream of evolving into one of the biggest industry houses in India and eventually in the world. Every passing moment is bringing us close towards the fulfillment of this dream. We will achieve what we believe. I believe in our ability and I believe in our resolve. I believe that every situation is an opportunity for us to grow. Let us resolve to explore newer avenues of growth and create a legacy which will be a source of inspiration for generations to come. Regards, MANOJ JAYASWAL HR CORNER “Peace is nourished by truth and principles, and it is strengthened when we overcome our differences to work together, finding common ground for a noble cause.” HR – THE ABHIJEETIAN WAY We have often heard that we can learn from Nature and apply in our day to day life to live a Happy Life. I have often wondered how these simple principles which we often rant very easily can also be interspersed in any Corporate Role to help in smooth functioning of each of us. Nature does not distinguish between rich & poor, between young & old, between able and disabled when it provides energy & its bounties to all and sundry. First and foremost is the distinction of classifying HR as “Human Relationship” and not “Human Resource”, which is the first tenant for bonding and fellowship as ONE and UBIQUOTOUS ABHIJEETIAN globally. The pride to call one self as Abhiheetian should remain above all ego, position and level, contribution and results. Essentially, all our activities should be focused for improving relationships on a global level, helping each other learn and understand deeper meanings for life and its existence and fostering healthy cooperation and collaboration. Next, I would like to borrow and emphasize on other principles by referring to “Rotary 4 WAY TEST”. • Is it FAIR to all concerned? • Is it the TRUTH? • Will it bring GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIP? • Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Not only our actions as Abhijeetians need to be Fair it should also be perceived as Fairly done and needs proper communications, which is an important area to not only bring Information to the doorsteps of everyone, but may Inspire and Motivate others to also take up roles and contribute their part, which they may be willing but are unaware of. Truthfulness has to be above, all our actions. We have to work with all sincerity and first be truthful to our own self, and then only we would be able to work outside our busy schedule and priorities to devote unconditional love and time for espousing the cause of our workplace. Other big focus on uniting all Abhijeetians rests with being Friendly with each other and helping each other achieve Goodwill amongst us. Everyone feels better on being appreciated externally, but one can never feel as much BLISS as having one’s own feeling of peace and satisfaction having contributed to achieving something worthwhile for helping others achieving their goals, without being in Rat Race. If we all work with above notions, the end results have to be BENEFICIAL to all. Any doubts??? Such a simple way to project and such deep meaning in the 4-way test can stand as a guiding principle for ANY Organization’s evolution & growth. HR is nothing but simple applications towards complex problems of our life and work. I have benefited immensely by keeping the motif of 4-way test to be my side for improving my actions and ultimately my character and I do hope that all of you look up for your share of sunshine. Lets all resolve to bring such change for “ABHIJEET” NEWS NEWS BANKA BANKA BANKERS VISIT AT JIPL BANKA PROJECT SITE Senior officials of reputed banks like Axis Bank, Bank of India, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, State of Bikaner & Jaipur, UCO Bank & Punjab National Bank visited project site at Banka on 22nd May, to access the progress of work. NEWS PHALODI CORPORATE ISPAT ALLOYS LTD. 50 MW SOLAR THERMAL POWER PROJECT SITE, NOKH 40TH WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS World Environment Day (WED) is set to take place on the 5th June. It’s an event that has taken place every year since 1973 and just one way in which the UN promotes awareness of environmental issues in the global community. More significantly, it’s a day when the people of the world are encouraged to come together and work towards a more environmentally sustainable future. This year sees the 40th anniversary of the event that led to the establishment of World Environment Day. WED, as it is often called, was established by the United Nations General Assembly to mark the start of the UN Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm from 5th to 16th June 1972. The first World Environment Day was on 5th June 1973. The Stockholm Conference was the first occasion that world leaders met to discuss the political, social and economic problems of the global environment with a view to actually doing something about it. Each year World Environment Day is hosted by a different country and this year the host is Brazil and the theme is Green Economy: Does it include you? A Green Economy, according to the United Nations Environment Programme, is one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risk and ecological scarcities. This can be summed up as being a socially inclusive, low carbon economy that is efficient with its resources. So, in this regards CIAL commemorating the 40th world Environment day at Solar Thermal Power Plant Project Site Nokh (Phalodi) in presence of CIAL/APRL and all agency staff and worker. • • • • Under this program CIAL educated • employees about the importance of environmental protection and explained • about the importance of 5th June (i.e. World Environment day and motto behind it.) Anyways they are facing various obstacles in acquiring land and getting access to mines. The ongoing land acquisition for Posco was also discussed in the meet, adding that among the mega projects, Tata Steel, Bhushan Steel Limited and Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) have made significant progress. Tata Steel and JSPL are aiming to begin production by 2013, while Bhushan Steel Limited hopes to commission its plant by 2014. Tata Steel is building a six MTPA facility at Kalinga Nagar, Jajpur. The six MTPA JSPL project is spread over Keonjhar and Angul (L to R) : Prakash Tatia, President - Mktg. & Raw Material Procurement, Welspun Maxsteel Ltd. ; Vivek Taneja, Head - Business Development, Thermax Ltd. ; D. A. Chandekar, Editor & CEO, Steelworld ; Dilip Jha, Special Correspondent, Business Standard Ltd. ; N. Rath, Vice President (Pellet & Beneficiation), Abhijeet Group About Mega steel Projects To accelerate creation of large steel capacity in the country to meet the growing demand, the government proposes to launch ultra mega projects in the steel sector. As per the plan, steel ministry in co-operation with state governments will initially identify four to five locations closer to the iron ore mining sites for developing ultra mega steel projects (UMSP). The minimum capacity of an UMSP will be 10 million tonne (MT) and it will be offered to both public and private sector companies under a competitive bidding process. The plan for UMSP has already been discussed in the inter-ministerial group set up to accelerate the development of steel projects in the country. An initial draft has been prepared, under it, the central government in collaboration with state governments will create necessary infrastructure for the mega steel project such as getting clearances for the project and assure raw material linkage in the form of coal and iron ore mining loses. Bids will then be invited from companies and the successful company will be handed over the project for development within a specified period of time. Issues Regarding Mega Steel Projects India has a set a target of 120 MT of steel production by 2012-13, which will be largely met through brownfield expansion. However, India is the only T he 11th Asian Steel Conference which was held in Mumbai from April 13 to 14, 2012 at Hotel Orchid aimed at providing a forum to explore various techno-commercial aspects of the steel business and examine key issues facing the industry. This conference covered the entire spectrum of the requirements of a modern day steel industry and discussed the topic, 'Future of Mega Steel Projects in India'. This report highlights about the government's proposal of mega steel projects and how this would contribute to the growth of steel sector. Simultaneously, steel industry is struggling with severe land acquisition problems and raw material security issues currently, which need to be resolved to ensure future growth of the industry. Why there's a conflict of opinion between the government and industry over linking captive mines to these projects, and how if the government manages to overcome these hurdles, mega steel projects could be seen as an alternative. country that has got over the economic meltdown of last year registering a positive growth in steel production this year. This shows that the demand for steel is growing in the double digits fearing concerns that unless new capacity comes up at fast pace, the country could become a dumping ground for steel. Summing up, setting a steel plant of 10 mtpa capacity requires around Rs 50,000 crore of investment. Also, every such plant consumes 16 mt of iron ore and 10 mt of coking coal annually. The huge funding and raw material requirement, coupled with heavy land, water and power demand, pushes up input costs of large-sized 44 April 2012 steel plants. The industry was, therefore, demanding captive mines linked with UMSPs. These mega projects have been facing problems like land acquisition, mining linkage, etc., hence Tata Steel has put on hold its plans to set up a 12 MT per annum integrated steel plant in Jharkhand and a 6 MT unit in Orissa. The much-famed plan of ArcelorMittal of setting up massive steel plants in India, announced in 2005, is now looking dispirited. The steel companies though are not encouraged. In their opinion there is no another need of policy to set up mega steel plants. It will be better to give the same status to the present steel plants A mega steel plant will use less land per tonne of steel capacity and also rationalise the use of resources like water and power. We should instead look to retain the present form of Indian steel industry, which has a few big steelmakers and many smaller NEWS RANCHI districts, while Bhushan Steel Limited is constructing a three MTPA plant at Meramandali, Dhenkanal. Other proposed mega steel projects, Posco (Jagatsinghpur), ArcelorMittal (Keonjhar), Sterlite Iron and Steel Limited (Keonjhar), Essar Steel (Paradeep), Welspun Power and Steel (Cuttack and Jaipur), Uttam Galva Steels (Keonjhar) and SSL Energy Limited (Angul) are facing different kinds of problems ranging from land acquisition, mining and water. Contributing towards this discussion here are some of the Comments from the industry professionals: ones. The focus should be on making the present projects progress as fast as possible. India's steel demand is expected to grow 8 percent this fiscal year, faster than last year, as demand rises for homes, offices and automobiles amid optimism interest rates will fall. Demand is likely to expand from last year's growth of 5.5 percent. Output at India's steel mills grew 6 percent in the year ended March 31 to 72 million metric tons, after plants expanded capacity at plants. The nation's annual steelmaking capacity is expected to increase more than 7 percent this year, crossing 100 million tons. T he Draft Steel Policy encourages and supports setting up of Mega Steel Projects of 10 MT or more capacity. The logic being, only these can bring about vast capacity additions envisaged. Only Mega steel projects require less land per MT compared to medium and small, and also economy of scale shall increase viability. The Policy suggests few incentives and Government Supports to these projects. At Jharkhand State level meeting, it was suggested to lower it from 10 MT to 5 or 6 MT, to get the status of Mega Steel project and avail the concessions , since, very few players can come up for such Huge Investments. That, in the Draft steel policy, (Expert group 3), allocation of mineral concessions was suggested for only those producing more than 5 MT. This was vehemently objected by Jharkhand team, and any plant of more than 1 Mt, particularly if they are installing facilities like Beneficiation, pelletization, Sintering etc should be considered for allocation of Mineral concessions. That, the policy should , cover some methodology, to collect back, Huge pile up of scrap, lying at , police Stations , all over the country, which otherwise is getting corroded into soil. Apart from that, it was discussed and felt by the House that, since in reality, the Mega projects are not , seeing the light of the Day 46 April 2012 T he future lies ahead for small and medium size steel plant in rural India where the government has lined up mega investment plans for the next Five Year Plan. Since, the Plan emphasizes infrastructure growth especially in tier III and tier IV cities and logistics cost have been consistently on a rise, steel plants to the tune of 1 million tonnes of annual capacity can find speedy clearance from environment as well as rehabilitation, if required. Also, looking at the fate of mega steel projects that have been hanging for the last several years, the small and mini steel projects require small chunk of land which even the government can provide from its own land bank. The government in the last annual budget allocated Rs 5000 crore for developing warehouses which requires huge quantity of steel. Development of new rakes, coaches and highways also offers immense potential for mini and medium steel plant which can run even with a lower raw material back up. Hence, a major shift in policy is required from allocating mineral resources to mega steel projects to insuring raw material assurance to small and medium size steel mills. in India, only medium and small steel projects shall come up, who have less land requirement, less quantity of raw material , hence logistics requirements, which seems to be more feasible. It was unanimously agreed by all that LAND is the most important Issue in our country , which is the biggest deterrent in putting up Green Field projects and unless something drastic is initiated by Government, Steel capacity rise shall be limited , as , after 2015-16, no further Brown Field expansions is possible. WORLD OF WINNERS Y R E V DISCO OWN N K N U F O S E V A C & T R O F ” A Z N O “L Our search for information on Antur Fort on Google satellite map (Google Earth), brought into view rectangular shapes resembling water tanks. Located west of Antur, they formed a part of dome shaped hill adjacent to an arm extending out of the Ajintha – Satmala mountain range. Curiosity about these rectangular shapes put us on the path of investigation/ exploring the same. Primarily, we checked if any information was available about monuments or forts or caves, next to Antur (to the west) in books viz. Dongaryatra, GadKille Maharashtrache. However, the available information was about Pitalkhore and Kanhergad, to the west of Antur. Hence, we decided to personally visit the hill and started off towards Nagad on 20th May 2012. The route towards this hill goes via Nagad on the Chalisgaon- Sillod Road and then taking an immediate right on Nagad – Banoti road. Turning right before Nagad (Pangra), the road reaches the base of Mahadev Taka Hill. The distance from Nasik (via Malegaon – Chalisgaon) is 191 kms. After proceeding ahead of Nagad, it was rather unclear to us about the exact hill we were trying to locate. We turned right at a point where we saw a name board which read “Shri Shambhu Dhyaan Ashram, Mahadev Taka”. On enquiring further, we became aware that there is an Ashram at the foot of the hill and also that there is a water tank called Mahadev Taka. Traversing the hill from the east, we stopped our car at the base. Looking at Mahadev Taka, our first reaction was “It’s a hillock !”. In Dr. Dalvi’s opinion these caves of Hinayana era have remained incomplete probably due to lack of financial support or political changes. He also adds that the cave with four steps and other two pillared caves may have been ‘ Viharas / Leni ’. About the period of the caves, Dr. Arunchandra Pathak and Dr. Suraj Pandit have a different opinion. According to them, these unfinished caves would be from a later era i.e. Yadava Period. A visit to the place & detailed study by scholars of the subject can throw more light on the history of these caves and fort. The devotees informed us that the people staying in the vicinity belong to the Banjara, Pardeshi, Patil and Bhill tribes. Farmers here, grow pomgrenate, Sweetlime, Banana, Jowar, Bajra etc. Localites refer to this hill as Mahadev Taka. However, the postal address of the hamlets at the base is Lonza Shivar, Nagad, Tal.– Kannad, Dist. - Aurangabad. This address played a crucial role in determining the exact name of the fort. There is a passing reference (without precise location) to this fort in the gazateer of Aurangabad District as ‘LONGHA’ and the directory of Villages mentions a village named ‘LONZA’. Map no. 44(i) of the Census of India 2001, Maharashtra, Administrative Atlas, also refers to the village as ‘LONZA’ and marks it as ‘Uninhabited Village’. The co-ordinates given in the directory of villages and map no. 44(i) undoubtedly match with location of Fort Lonza. These records prove that the fort discovered is none other than ‘Fort Lonza’. Also, Conservation assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India, Nashik sub-circle, B. B. Sukhdeve, after confirming with the ASI office, Auranagbad circle, informed Times of India (Nasik edition) that the fort is not listed in the central, state or national records. A study of numerous related books viz. Report on the Antiquities in the Bidar and Aurangabad Districts by James Burgess (1878), Mediaeval Temples of the Dakhan by Henry Cousens (1931), Late Hinayana Caves of Western India by Dr. M.K. Dhavalikar (1984) and others, lead us to believe that the caves on the fort have been unexplored as yet. For establishing the status of the Fort & Caves as undiscovered, determining the name of the Fort, their period; guidance from Shri. Girish Takle (Fort Explorer), Dr Dawood Dalvi (Senior Historian), Dr. Arunchandra Pathak (Executive Editor and Secretary, Gazetteers Dept., Govt of Maharashtra) and Shri. Sadanand Apte proved invaluable.
