The Commander. Sometimes a piece of gear has
everything you need. It’s just right. The Emerson
Commander is as near to perfection as you can get. The
Commander is the first knife to feature the Emerson

The Emerson CQC-7 knife is the most recognized and iconic tactical
folding knife of all time. Sometimes a great design is “finished” just
as it comes off the drawing board. When I first designed and built
the first CQC-7 I thought that knife was one of those “finished”
designs. I thought that it was done – that it couldn’t get any
better. And that’s the way the CQC-7 was for quite a few
years. Then I developed the wave shaped opening feature.
I wondered how it would work on the CQC-7 so I gave it a
try and built a couple of prototypes. Needless to say
that it worked well, but so much so that it made
the original CQC-7 knife better, especially in
the tactical world where immediate access
and deployment (opening) of your knife
can spell the difference between life
and death. What I once thought was
good, became even better. And
thus the “waved” CQC-7 knife
was born. This became the
standard iteration for the
CQC-7 and it became
our best selling knife
for almost two
decades.

Emerson CQC-7 Flipper.
This may just be the ultimate evolution of the tactical
folding knife. This knife is the
epitome of the 21st century tactical folder. It now features S35VN
steel, GTC stainless 440C bearings
and they are now equipped with the
flipper opening technology. Believe me,
this is still an Emerson CQC-7 but it’s like
comparing a 1960’s era F4 Phantom jet to
a F22 Raptor Stealth Fighter. There’s just no
going back. With the flipper opening system,
the Emerson “wave” and the thumb disc this
knife could be called the first “triple play” tactical
folding knife. And in a high stress tactical or emergency situation this knife gives you three options to

system. Lt. Colonel David Grossman is an icon in the Military and Tactical
world. A former Airborne Ranger and West Point Instructor, he is the
world’s leading authority on the effects of stress and combat and how

And off I went. The “Sheepdog Knife” a design
that I came back with is a medium size folder
with some important features that are entirely
new to Emerson Knives. It is the first Emerson design
to feature a bearing system in the pivot rather than a
washer system and the first Emerson knife to feature a
“flipper.” In these regards it’s like no other Emerson design
ever. I made the knife available in both a bowie style blade and
a brutish spearpoint design. Knowing that this knife is specifically
designed for both police and military use, these two blade styles
make the most sense for a utility/defensive knife. Mr. Grossman was
extremely pleased with the results and I know you will be too. Go ahead

The more that I handle this knife, the more I’m thinking
this is one of my best designs. Just like a chopped Harley, this knife is low slung and ready to roar. It feels like
you’ve just dropped the clutch and it’s trying to jump out
of your hand. And just like a Harley, you’ve got to have
a Rock ‘n’ Roll, Outlaw’s soul to carry a Roadhouse. If a
chopper could be a knife it would be the Roadhouse. This
is a bad to the bone fighter with a Rebel’s soul and a Rock
‘n’ Roll attitude that cannot be tamed. Pick it up and you
can just about smell the Whiskey. This knife is destined
to be an Emerson classic.

I developed the Search and Rescue Knife (SARK) at the specific request of the United States Navy for a waterborne rescue knife that would perform safely and efficiently under emergency conditions. You can now see clones of this design in
many other knife companies catalogs and with good reason. The SARK is just about the best rescue knife ever developed.
It’s safe, strong, and it’s an Emerson. As the knife gained notoriety, Police departments began requesting that we provide the design with a point rather than the safety tip for patrol officers. As a result there is both the original SARK and
the Police SARK (P-SARK). In both configurations, it is a wonderful rescue tool and has been used successfully in many,
many rescue and life saving operations. If your job is saving lives, then get the knife that was designed just for you.

Everybody makes a fixed blade police knife. Everybody makes a great big Bowie-style knife for
police. That is not what they need. The Emerson Police Utility Knife was developed as a result of
years of working hand-in-hand or, I should say, Hand-to-Hand with hundreds of police officers. I
found that the knife the officers really needed was not a great big wall hanger, but rather a fixed
