acapulco lodging lodging options Selecting the ideal Acapulco lodging option requires an understanding both the lay-of-the-land and what your individual clients expect in terms of amenities, quality of service, price, and atmosphere. Acapulco has more than 200 hotel choices and some 18,000 lodging units. But only a relatively small number of these hotels are known to American and Canadian travelers. This is somewhat ironic, since Acapulco is also home to two of Mexico’s most recognizable and popular hotels: the Fairmont Acapulco Princess and Las Brisas. Acapulco Diamante: This includes Revolcadero Beach and nearby Puerto Marques. Close in to the air- Unlike Puerto Vallarta or Los Cabos, Acapulco has evolved into a 75% domestic/25% international destination. The typical tour operator carries 8-10 Acapulco properties—that tend to cater to American and Canadian clientele. That’s not to say that you won’t find good choices beyond this short list. In fact, for value travelers, Acapulco has Mexico’s widest choice of beachfront offerings. Just be aware that a property with few US and Canadian visitors may operate with different service and facility standards. Do some extra research (at www.tripadvisor.com or www.starservice.com), and your clients are apt to be treated to some real diamonds in the rough. Golden Acapulco: This refers to the heart of Aca pulco Bay. These properties are either beachfront, or picking a location This is a critical part of your vacation planning service. Remember, Acapulco is spread out along over 30 kms of coastline. With traffic delays, transit times from one end to the other can be lengthy. Book a client out in the Diamante area who expects the Acapulco Bay setting (or vice versa), and you’re headed for problems. Become familiar with the area’s layout to make sure you’re truly suggesting the right lodging option for your client. © 2006 Destinations Ventures, Ltd. All rights reserved. Large chain hotels and condo developments dominate here. Remember, the taxi to Acapulco Bay will cost $20-25 each way and take 20-40 minutes depending on where you’re headed. Beach swimming is ideal along Puerto Marques, but often too rough along Revolcadero. across the Costera boulevard on hills overlooking the Bay. Guests here get easy access to beaches, shopping and Acapulco’s legendary dining and nightlife. However, with a few exceptions, hotels are in a very urban setting—with traffic, people, neon signs, and round the clock activity. Hillside properties offer some relief from these conditions, but can be remote from the action of the Costera and the Bay’s safe swimming beaches. This zone is also home to dozens of private homes and villas, especially in the area around and below Las Brisas. Traditional Acapulco: ah… for those seeking nos talgia and an authentic encounter with Mexico’s original beach resort, this downtown area is the ideal choice. Located at the Bay’s western end and engulfed by lush vegetation, this area has but a few lodging choices. Guests here have the privilege of staying where Hollywood’s elite vacationed over half a century ago. While a bit past its prime, Traditional Acapulco offers a quiet and less commercial atmosphere. None of these hotels have beach frontage. Pie de la Cuesta/Coyuca Lagoon: for the escapist! Located up the coast from La Quebrada some 20 30 minutes, this tropical paradise is rustic, laid-back and inexpensive. Forget about the discos and swanky dinner houses. It seems like little has changed here since the 60’s, except for the crowds of visitors from Mexico City during holidays and summer. The beach is wide, clean and gorgeous (though too rough for swimming).
