Bonnyrigg were back in form last week against
APIA and will be desperate to make it two wins
from as many games.
It is a similar scenario for Paul Dee’s Manly side
who claimed a dominant win against Parramatta
in Round 3.
Bonnyrigg will need to keep their eye on
Manly’s star players Dejan Pandurevic, Brendan
Cholakian and Luke Giverin.

PREVIEW
M
anly United lead the competition in its
early stages and will arrive at Bonnyrigg
Sports Club high on confidence after beating
Parramatta 3-0 at Cromer Park on Easter Friday.
Andrew Christiansen’s side have made a hugely
impressive start to the season and possess a
frontline brimming with attacking verve with the
likes of Dylan Whitlock and Sipan Berti amongst
the goals in the opening rounds. The latter has
been rewarded with two call-ups into the first
team this season, scoring on both occasions.
Bonnyrigg have endured a frustrating beginning
to the campaign with two narrow defeats at
the hands of Rockdale City Suns and Blacktown
Spartans leaving Stephen Sigmund’s men at the
foot of the table.
Their defeat to Blacktown in Round 2 was a
particularly bitter pill to swallow after the visitors
mounted a late comeback to stun Bonnyrigg
Sports Club and escape with the points.

VALENTINE SPORTS PARK CELEBRATES ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY
W
hen the redeveloped Valentine Sports Park
was officially opened on 21st March last
year, Football NSW became the proud custodian
of a brand new Home of Football, built to service
the whole of the football community.
The $22 million redevelopment was completed
in early 2016 after an 18-month build, and the
magnificent new venue has certainly lived up to
the hype.
Over 120,000 people have been through the gates
in the first year alone, with more than 132 match
day events taking place across the two synthetic
and three natural grass fields, plus an additional
61 school events featuring 5,000 schoolchildren.
Football at every level has been played at VSP
in the past 12 months, including grassroots
Association games, FNSW’s Football4all Gala Day,
Champion of Champions grand finals, State and
Waratah Cup finals, FFA Cup matches and PS4
National Premier Leagues games. Nine Gala Days
have taken place with thousands of participants,
young and old, enjoying the state-of-art facilities.
Elite and international footballers have also
shown off their skills at the venue, with the
Matildas using it as a training camp, preparing for
their Rio 2016 Olympics qualification and 2015
World Cup campaigns. A-League side Melbourne
City have trained here as well as many NPL clubs,
local community clubs, and Sydney FC’s youth
teams.
The world class facilities have also attracted
international interest, playing
host to Chinese Super League
giants Guangzhou Evergrande,
under the tutelage of superstar
head coach Fabio Cannavaro,
who used the grounds as a base
ahead of their AFC Champions
League fixture against the
Western Sydney Wanderers.
Chinese Super League crosstown rivals Guangzhou R&F also
used this facility as its training
base prior to their 2016 football
season kicking off.
The DPR Korea, Ghana, Mexico, Columbia and Fiji
under-20 sides all featured in special pre-Under
20 World Cup internationals, with a number of
high profile rising stars on display at Glenwood.
The international-standard indoor Futsal court
has also been extremely popular, hosting the
Futsal National Championships for the past
two years, plus F-League and Premier League
competitions, with some 16,500 players
showcasing their skills.
With a dedicated learning centre, function spaces,
on-site accommodation for 200 and the Valentine
Café, there’s far more to Valentine Sports Park
than just playing football.
Over 2,700 people have attended FFA B-Licence
and C-Licence coaching courses, with another
400 completing refereeing courses. Conference,
facilities forums, numerous meetings and
even a wedding expo have been held at VSP,
and of course, it is the permanent home of the
administration offices of Football NSW.
With football having been played on the site
since the late 1960’s, in 2016 it’s a very Happy
First Birthday to the new, redeveloped Valentine
Sports Park, and we look forward to supporting
the world game in the state for at least another
50 years.
It is safe to say that with this facility, the true
legacy of Charles Valentine lives on.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC 1 - Bonnyrigg White
Eagles 2 at Lambert Park
Manly United 5 - Parramatta FC 1 at Cromer
Park
It wasn’t a Good Friday for APIA as the John
Carnevale coached side succumbed to defeat
and injury despite a galant performance in its
2-1 loss to Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
Parramatta FC’s dream start to the
PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW
Men’s competition finally came to an end on
Friday thanks to a clinical Manly United FC
outfit.
Goals to Aaron Peterson and Sam Galloway
were enough for the White Eagles to hold off
its fast finishing APIA opposition.
It was a disastrous start to the match for APIA
who were forced into a double substitution
only seven minutes into the match with Brett
Studman and Sean O’Connell both going down.
A defensive mix up cost the hosts the lead in
the 27th minute when former Newcastle Jets
and Western Sydney Wanderers defender Sam
Galloway hit the back to give Bonnyrigg a 1-0
advantage.
Tasuku Sekiya levelled the scores just after the
break to bring APIA back into the match when
he clinically finished a passage of slick passing
from the home side.
Paul Dee’s men were ‘on’ from the outset and
thanks to a brilliant display from goalkeeper
Dylan Mitchell, thoroughly deserved their first
win of the season.
First half goals to Adam Parkhouse and Travis
Cooper gave Manly a 2-0 lead at the break
while second half strikes for Dejan Pandurevic,
Sipan Berti and Cooper ensured victory for the
Cromer Park side.
A late consolation goal to Josh Symons was all
Parramatta could muster on a night Manly was
at full flight.
However, it wasn’t to be for APIA as substitute
Peterson’s volleyed goal with 10 minutes
remaining ensured Bonnyrigg went home with
all three competition points.
