Executive Director
By the time you read this we will have announced our
“LOVE THE LYRIC” fundraising campaign for the future of
our wonderful not-for-profit organization. This 3 YEAR, 3
MILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN is designed to make sure The
Lyric stays around for a long time and continues to provide
our community with the best in artistic integrity, community
outreach through our Arts & Education programs and a
comfortable, technically modern historic theater.
The Campaign goal
has three elements:
Replace the orchestra
seating with new more
comfortable chairs, design
and replace the entryways
and doors in the lobby
along with new concession
areas. Install a new box
office system, better
lighting and marquee
updates.
Next, we will retire our
mortgage and create an
increase in our Arts &
Education Programs by providing many more of our schools
with artist residencies and experiences at no cost to the schools.
Finally, a new fund will be established to help underwrite
select programs and artist opportunities that would otherwise
be too costly.
We hope you will consider supporting us in securing The

Temperatures are rising this January
when the mysterious and magical
art of the European circus, with a
tantalizing twist, comes to The Lyric.
Spring of 1913
Construction for The “first” Lyric began
on Osceola Avenue near Belle Flora and
opened for its first performance a year later.
1917
The “first” Lyric was abandoned and
moved to a little wooden structure on
Osceola Avenue
Cirque D’Amour (January
8, 2013: 6:00pm & 8:30pm) combines
high-flying acrobatics with the sensual
art form of Burlesque. Winning over 70
international awards, Cirque D’Amour is
performed by the Zunyi Acrobatic Troupe
who explores the history of dance, from
sultry Argentinean Tango to the art of the
striptease made famous by Sally Rand.
This intimate evening of song, dance,
humor and acrobatics is demonstrated
by some of the most talented circus
performers in the world. Cirque D’Amour
brings you a performance of love and
seduction that is filled with gorgeous
costuming, state-of-the-art choreography
and an electrifying score.

Canadian Brass (January 9,
2013: 8:00pm) is returning to The Lyric
stage! The highly celebrated ensemble has
truly earned the distinction of “the world’s
most famous brass group.” Comprised
of five tremendous brass musicians, each
a virtuoso in his own right, the varied
Canadian Brass repertoire features brass
standards as well as a wide-ranging library
of original arrangements created especially
for them. These include the works of
Renaissance and Baroque masters, Classical
works, marches, holiday favorites, ragtime,
Dixieland, Latin, jazz, big band, Broadway
and Christian music as well as popular
songs and standards.
Touring legends, Canadian Brass have an
enthusiastic fan base and play to packed
houses everywhere throughout the USA,
Canada, Japan and Europe. Masters of
concert presentations, Canadian Brass
has developed a uniquely engaging stage
presence and rapport with audiences.
Whatever the style, the music is central
and performed with utmost dedication,
skill and excellence. The hallmark of
any Canadian Brass performance is
entertainment, spontaneity, virtuosity and
of course – fun! And they do it with style.
Famous for their unique attire of formal
black suits and white running shoes, each
of the brass musicians plays on 24-karat
gold plated Conn-Selmer instruments,

“Politics Takes a Holiday.”
In 1981, a group of Senate staff
members got together to come up with a
series of song parodies for a Christmas
party performance. The show was such a
success on Capitol Hill that the members
of the group decided to try their luck as
a traveling performance group. Three
decades later, the veteran troupe has
received wide-reaching success and critical
accolades for their biting wit and fresh take
on contemporary political topics. They’ve
released 30 albums with their famous
song parodies, including their latest album
entitled “Take the Money and Run – For
President.”
The Capitol Steps cast of characters
has worked in a total of 18
Congressional offices and have
62 collective years of House and
Senate staff experience under
their belt. One of their most
talked-about bits is “Lirty Dies,”
a quick-paced run-through of all
the latest national scandals in the
form of spoonerisms, or word
play that switches letters to baffle
and jumble the audience in the
expected fashion of politics.
The hilarious show leaves no
stone unturned and no scandal
forgotten.

The Lyric Theatre fell on hard times after
the depression and closed its doors. Over
the following years, it was rented out
to community groups and was used to
present traveling vaudeville shows, news
weeklies and movies

The Lyric was purchased by New Life in
Christ Church and served as a venue for
weekly services

With talk of razing the theater, Friends of
the Lyric, a group of concerned citizens,
banded together to save the historic structure
The Machine Performs Pink Floyd
Jan. 17th | 8:00pm
Michael’s love of opera blossomed when
a choir director in upstate New York
introduced him to legendary Swedish tenor
Jussi Björling. Along the way, Michael
attracted the attention of opera-legend
Luciano Pavarotti who encouraged him in
his pursuit of classical performance. The
rest is history.
Although Michael is truly an international
artist, proficient in 7 languages and
traveling across the world to perform,
the vocalist is a devout patriot of his
homeland of the United States. The son of
a decorated World War II Army Air Corps
veteran, Michael recently produced an
album entitled “Amante Salutes America,”
from which all proceeds were donated to
the nation’s disabled veterans.

(January 17, 2013: 8:00pm), an authentic
Floyd-ian experience. America’s top Pink
Floyd show has forged a 20 year reputation
of excellence, extending the legacy of
Pink Floyd, while creating a legacy all
their own. Over the years, The Machine
has touched the hearts and souls of many,
selling out theaters, large clubs and casinos
across North and Central America, Europe
and Asia. They have also appeared at
renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo,
Riverbend, Gathering of the Vibes, Buffalo’s
Artpark, and Germany’s Rock of Ages.

In the classic tradition, The Machine
explores collective improvisation
paralleling and even rivaling that of an
early 1970’s Pink Floyd mentality. Their
use of expanded theatrical elements and
elaborate stage displays continues in
the spirit of the later Floyd lineups of
the 1980’s. The band is also known for
recreating entire albums as a part of their
show, accepting requests from fans, and for
taking an A to Z approach in which one
song is played for every
letter of the
alphabet.

pianist spends his time between Budapest
and Florida, as couldn’t resist the charms

they aren’t and they’ve turned the inspired

an internet and international sensation.
The duo has picked up the mantle of
Victor Borge and P.D.Q. Bach and given
it a third millennium makeover. Like
their predecessors, they are accomplished
musicians who have turned the world’s
most esteemed concert halls into standing
room only comedy clubs. Think Mozart
hijacked by Monty Python and you have
some idea of the mayhem created on
worldwide stages at the highest level of
musicianship--and immortalized on videos
with more than 28 million viewings.
In part, what makes Igudesman & Joo so
unique is that they are enjoyed with equal
gusto by audiences ranging from an eightyear-old who has never heard of Bach or
Brahms to seasoned musical connoisseurs.
Amazingly, one of their strongest
demographics in the U.S. is among 15 to

of great Hungarian pianist and composer
Franz Liszt, was born in Budapest to
a talented family of musicians. He has
traveled the globe, performing everywhere
from Australia to South America, where
critics have described the talented
pianist as “a driving force with a lyrical
sensitivity.”

Conservatory of Music and received his
doctorate from the prestigious Franz Liszt
Academy of Music, where he would later
serve as a Professor of Piano. Pertis won
the Bartok National Piano Competition in

show tunes, a dash of opera and their

January. All Hands on Deck captures
the spirit of the 1940s in a flashback
to the days of USO tours and radio
extravaganzas. The critically acclaimed
musical is a two-act time capsule of songs
and dances that defined an era; performed
by a dynamic cast and 9 piece orchestra.
With over 40 classic big band hits in their
arsenal, All Hands on Deck presents a
true-to-life reproduction of a USO show
modeled after Bob Hope’s famous 1942 tour.
Act One is hosted by Ted Crosley and
follows a war-bond drive as they travel the
country. When the gang is called back for
an emergency live radio broadcast on the
Armed Forces Radio, Crosley and the rest
of the group decide to broadcast directly
from the theatre. Act Two is a live radio
show complete with on-air antics, classic
commercials and a live studio audience - you!
All Hands on Deck features John
Handley, “Hollywood’s favorite new
tenor,” Daisy Maxwell, “the sweater girl,”
and Betty Blake, “the blond bombshell.”
The clever, playful arrangements and
traditional stylings of All Hands on Deck
will remind you of the likes of American
comedian Jack Benny. The show brings
you a refreshingly authentic recreation of
classic 1940s musical entertainment that
stays true to its origins and celebrates the
golden days of big band and live radio.
Gaelic Storm
Batten down for
(January 28, 2013: 7:00pm), the Celticinspired phenomenon sweeping the land
with their lively instrumentals, Irish-bred
flair and cross-over popularity. Getting
their first big break as the party band in
James Cameron’s mega-hit Titanic, Gaelic
Storm have released 8 albums featuring
their energetic blend of traditional Irish
and Scottish music with pop influences.
Their spontaneity and vigor must be
experienced live to truly appreciate their
multi-faceted renderings of traditional
folk music.
Gaelic Storm got their start in 1996,
when members Patrick Murphy, Steve
Wehmeyer, Steve Twigger and Brian
Walsh joined together to perform at
O’Brien’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in
Santa Monica, California. The group
received immediate attention from locals
and Gaelic Storm began to perform at a
number of pubs in the area the following
year. When James Cameron chose the
talented young musicians as the band to
play in Titanic’s ship steerage party scene,
the group’s popularity skyrocketed. Now,
Gaelic Storm plays over 125 dates a year,
touring throughout the United States,
United Kingdom, France and Japan.

Since its inception in 1997, The Lyric Theatre’s Arts & Education program has provided
Treasure Coast families with the wonderfully unique and magical experience that only live
performing arts can offer. As funding for the arts continues to dwindle, The Lyric is more
committed than ever to give all area students and families the opportunity to share in this
cultural resource. It is for these reasons The Lyric has adapted a multi-faceted approach to
sharing our message, educating our youth, bringing families together and opening young minds.

My daughter Rylie absolutely
LOVED The Lyric’s Awesome
Summer Camp… we were
not sure how it would go, she
is very shy and even though
she can be a ham at home
she‘s not one to perform in
front of strangers, she even
dropped out of ballet because
she didn’t want to dance in
front of the class…but she
performed at the “sharing”
in more than a few dance
numbers and after the show
we took her to get ice cream
and all she could talk about
was how she wished it wasn’t
over and how she can’t wait
to go again next summer. She
has even asked to go for the
whole time the camp is open
rather than going for just
a 2 week session. This was
by far her favorite camp she
attended all summer.

• This mainstay of The Lyric’s educational outreach has provided quality programming to Treasure Coast schools for over 14 years. • Since 1997, over 105,000 school children have come to The Lyric to experience the wonder of live theater – many of them for the first time.
• Comprised of educational programming designed to support Florida state
curriculum requirements.
• Professionally produced, high quality shows designed to educate, entertain and inspire.
Family Programming
• A variety of cultural and artistic experiences in music, dance, theater, magic and more,
to expand children’s awareness and imagination. • This slate of wholesome entertainment (offered at modest ticket prices) are performed
on weekends, school holidays and evenings, allowing working parents and the family
to enjoy live theater together. Artist Residency Program
• Instituted in 2010, this unique experience brings dedicated
artist mentors into our schools for an intensive, up-close
and personal exchange with students, in hopes of kindling
even the smallest spark of creativity in a child that might
otherwise go unnoticed.

the 1950s and his success with Fiddler
on the Roof and The Producers are retold
by playwright and actor Jim Brochu, a
lifelong admirer of the famous comedian.
Brochu won the 2010 Drama Desk Award
of Outstanding Solo Performance and the
Helen Hayes Award for the subtlety and
honesty that he brought to the role in
Zero Hour.
A native of Brooklyn, Jim Brochu
produced his first show when he was
13 years old. Four years later, Jim was
working on Broadway, selling drinks at the
St. James Theatre during intermissions. He
would go on to study drama at CarnegieMellon University and he got his B.A. in
English at St. Francis College. Jim made
his Broadway debut as Christopher Sly in
a revival of Shakespeare’s The Taming of
the Shrew. His latest role as Zero Mostel is
a personal achievement for the Broadway
veteran, as the life of the Jewish comedian
was of particular interest to Brochu early
on in production. He brings a significant
amount of personality and wit to the
character, proving himself as the New York
Times called him the “Man of the Theatre.”
Zero Hour portrays Mr. Mostel being
interviewed in his art studio by an unseen
New York Times reporter who tries to
separate fact from fanciful fiction and also
concentrates on the comedian’s laughless
years when he was blacklisted in the
1950s following his refusal to name names
before the House Un-American Activities
Committee. Even here there are hilarious
moments, including a near-verbatim
depiction of his appearance in front of
the committee, showing Mr. Mostel as the
ultimate canny provocateur. For all the
humor born out of bitterness, there also are
equal amounts of bigheartedness and deep
empathy. Mr. Brochu captures Mr. Mostel’s
thundering bravado — the florid language,
extravagant gestures, the wagging brows
and glowering stare, the way the comedian
could never pass up a pun. The low humor
is abundant, but so are the high ideals.
Mr. Mostel claims to have come from
nothing, but Zero Hour affirms his
worth as both an actor and a man.

The high energy quintet boasts an impressive

music’s biggest stars, including Garth

Dolly Parton. Appearing on stages across the
country as well as on national television and in
major motion pictures, the Doo-Wah Riders
are unique for their combination of invaluable
decades of experience and youthful musical
energy. Their tight musicianship and powerful
arrangements of classic and original songs
have made them favorites everywhere they go.
The group produced their first, selftitled album in 1993, featuring some
of their greatest fan favorites and the
track “Glowing in the Ashes,” which was
performed in the movie “Basic Instinct”
starring Michael Douglas and Sharon
Stone. Their debut CD also featured the
remarkable musicianship of former band
member and world-renowned fiddler Byron
Berline. They would work with the talented
international artist again on the album
“Fiddle and a Song” which was nominated
for a Grammy in 1995. The Doo-Wah
Riders didn’t stop there, releasing 6 more
albums including two unforgettable, bootstompin’ live albums. Their latest release,
entitled “Obstacles,” took over 2 turbulent
years to record and might prove to be their
greatest accomplishment yet.
The Doo-Wah Riders have a long history
performing in every aspect of the music

backup band for such stars as Lee Ann
Womack, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Martina
McBride. Apart from being featured in

bringing his Grammy-winning southernrock sound to the Treasure Coast in an
unprecedented solo acoustic performance.
He has charted more than forty times on
the Hot Country Songs charts, including
five number ones — “Help Me Hold
On,” “Anymore,” “Can I Trust You with
My Heart,” “Foolish Pride” and “Best of
Intentions.” Seven of his albums (counting
his Greatest Hits) are certified platinum or
higher, and he’s had 15 additional top ten
singles. Now on tour, Travis Tritt comes
to The Lyric armed with only his acoustic
guitar in an uplugged, raw and intimate
sharing of his songs and stories.
Tritt’s love affair with music began as a
child, teaching himself how to play guitar
when he was eight and beginning to
write songs when he was 14. Travis was
determined to have a musical career, much
to his parents dismay. Following his parents
advice, Tritt tried to settle down into a more
traditional life of work and family but was
unsuccessful. Twice divorced by age 22, he
continued to play music while working various
jobs; including one where the company’s
vice president was a guitarist who gave up
hopes of a musical career and urged Tritt to
follow his dreams. Tritt quit his job and began
pursuing a career full-time. In a stroke of
good fortune, Tritt’s demo tape landed in the
hands of a Warner Brothers’ executive and
in 1989, Warner Brothers’ Nashville division
signed Tritt. His debut album, Country Club,
appeared in the stores in the spring 1990. It
was preceded by the Top Ten hit, “Country
Club.” His next two singles, “Help Me Hold
On” and “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” hit
number one and two respectively. “Put Some
Drive in Your Country,” which had a clear rock
& roll influence, stalled at number four, since
radio programmers were reluctant to feature
such blatantly rock-derived music.
Tritt had a breakthrough success with his
second album, 1991’s It’s All About to Change went into multi-platinum territory.
T-r-o-u-b-l-e, Tritt’s third album, was
released in 1992-it had the number one
single, “Can I Trust You With My Heart,”
and went gold. Tritt came back in 1994
with Ten Feet Tall & Bulletproof, which went
platinum, spawned the number one single
“Foolish Pride,” and marked his highest
position, number 20, on the pop charts. His
1995 compilation Greatest Hits: From the
Beginning went platinum within six months

aspirations, Anthony suddenly realizes his

is considered by the media as one of the

Bell has collaborated with some
of the best composers and symphonies
in the world, and received international
recognition when Bell’s YouTube video
of his undercover subway performance in
Washington D.C. hit over 3 million views.
Joshua Bell began taking violin lessons at
the age of 4, when his parents discovered
his innate and insatiable interest in creating
music around the house. Although Bell’s
parents were never demanding of the
young musician, Joshua took immediately
to the violin and became serious about his
abilities by the age of 12, studying under
the tutelage of violinist and pedagogue
Josef Gingold. By the age of 14, Bell
appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia
Orchestra and had finally found his place
as a major player in contemporary classical
music. By 1985, the up and coming star had

Theatre Box Office and General Information
Hours
Regular Box Office hours are Monday thru
Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We are
also open two (2) hours prior to curtain on the
day of a performance.
Purchasing Flexibility
For your convenience, you can purchase tickets
in several different ways:

Please be advised that a $3.00 restoration fee
is added to all ticket prices. This supports the
preservation and restoration of our historic
facility. The Lyric Theatre is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Will Call
Prepaid tickets are available beginning one
hour prior to each performance at The Lyric’s
Will Call Booth in the theater lobby, not at the
Box Office. Simply go to the old fashioned
ticket booth in the center of the lobby prior to
the performance to pick up your tickets.
Paid tickets can also be picked up
in advance at any time the Box Office is open,
or they can be mailed to you upon your request
if there is ample time to do so prior to the
performance date.
Gift Certificates
Lyric Theatre Seating Chart
Gift certificates can be purchased in
any denomination and are good for any
performance held at The Lyric Theatre. They
are valid for one year from the date of the
purchase.

Gift certificates are not transferable, and can
only be redeemed by the person(s) for whom
they are purchased. They are non-refundable
and cannot be redeemed for cash.
Ticketing Policies
The Lyric Theatre has a “No Refund, No
Exchange” ticketing policy. At the discretion of
management, exceptions may be made. In the
event of a returned check, a fee of $35 will apply.
Box Office
Located outside the entrance to The Lyric on
Flagler Avenue. We accept American Express,
Visa, Discover and MasterCard for phone and
online reservations; checks, cash and credit
cards at the window. All reserved tickets are
available from time of purchase up to one hour
before the performance, when they may be
picked up at our Will Call Booth in the center
of the lobby.
Photography/Recording
The use of any audio or visual recording device
is strictly prohibited. Patrons may be asked to
leave the Theater.
Cell Phones/Pagers
Please turn off or put personal communication
devices on silent mode prior to entering the
Theater.
Patrons with Disabilities
Special seating arrangements must be made
with the Box Office at the time you purchase
tickets, based on availability. Inner lobby
restrooms are accessible.
Latecomers
Performances begin at the advertised time.
Please allow proper time for parking and
collection of tickets. Latecomers will be seated
at the discretion of management.
Fire Notice
In case of fire, please walk to the exit nearest
your seat.

Based on Tevye and his Daughters by Sholem
Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof follows the
story of Tevye, a father of five girls, living
in Tsarist Russia at the turn of the century.
Tevye struggles endlessly in his attempts to
reconcile his personal religious traditions with
the encroaching influence of outside forces,
including the political actions of the current
Tsar. Tevye faces his greatest obstacles when
he begins to challenge the increasingly strongwilled natures of his aging daughters as they
confront a shifting social and political reality.
Originally premiering in 1964, Fiddler on the
Roof is Broadway’s fifteenth longest-running
show in history, running in New York for
almost 10 years. The timeless story of family,
faith, and inevitable change has inspired four
Broadway revivals, a 1971 film, and countless
community and educational productions. The
musical features the music of Tony Awardwinning composer Jerry Bock and lyrics by
Sheldon Harnick. The original production
was nominated for ten Tony Awards winning
a total of nine, including Best Musical,
Best Score, Best Book, and Best Direction
and Choreography. After nearly a decade
of performance, Fiddler on the Roof won an
additional Tony Award in 1972 for being the
longest-running musical in Broadway history.

ZERO HOUR The Zero Mostel Play
Zero Hour is a sensitive and thought-provoking one-person play that explores the life of
Zero Mostel, the Jewish comedic actor and Tony-Award winner.
Mostel’s experiences with being black-listed
during the 1950s and his success with Fiddler
on the Roof and The Producers are retold by
playwright and actor Jim Brochu, a lifelong
admirer of the famous comedian. Brochu won
the 2010 Drama Desk Award of Outstanding
Solo Performance and the Helen Hayes Award
for the subtlety and honesty that he brought to
the role in Zero Hour.
A native of Brooklyn, Jim Brochu produced
his first show when he was 13 years old. Four
years later, Jim was working on Broadway,
selling drinks at the St. James Theatre during
intermissions. He would go on to study drama
at Carnegie-Mellon University and he got
his B.A. in English at St. Francis College. Jim
made his Broadway debut as Christopher Sly
in a revival of Shakespeare’s The Taming of
the Shrew. Jim Brochu was worked on and
off-stage, featured in television commercials
and programs such as All My Children and

The Young and The Restless. Jim has written a
number of plays including comedies The Lucky
O’Learys starring Helen Hunt as well as Fat
Chance with Virginia Capers.
Jim now lives in New York City after
living in Los Angeles for 22 years. However,
Jim certainly can’t stay still. The talented
playwright and actor has been traveling
the world lecturing about the history of
Broadway and performing in various theatrical
performances. He is a member of the
Dramatists Guild, Actors Equity Association,
and the Society of Stage Directors and
Choreographers. His latest role as Zero Mostel
is a personal achievement for the Broadway
veteran, as the life of the Jewish comedian was
of particular interest to Brochu early on in
production. He brings a significant amount of
personality and wit to the character, proving
himself as the New York Times called him, the
“Man of the Theatre.”
