Award-winning filmmaker David Grubin traces Marie Antoinette’s journey from her childhood in the palaces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to her final hours in a French prison cell. This two-hour film paints a portrait in which Marie Antoinette emerges as a sympathetic and courageous figure whose tragic awakening came too late to save her from the guillotine. Celebrate the launch of Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution (Henry Holt & Co) with author Caroline Weber. Learn more about the following designers, exhibiting their “savoirfaire” in the fields of Home Décor, and Jewelry: Clément Djossou (Lotta et Djossou), Marie-Claire Meheut (Voyage de Perles). Marie Antoinette is a David Grubin Production in association with Cinétévé for PBS in the United States, ARTE in France and BBC in the United Kingdom. Weber illustrates how Marie Antoinette’s choice of clothing was central to the political upheavals of her era. The Queen staged “a veritable revolution in fashion,” using her clothes as defiant expressions of independence and power to combat enemies.
