T
hree hundred and sixty-four days ago a
28-14 season-opening win over the Allegheny
Gators helped propel the Thiel Tomcats to a
four-win campaign in 2014.
Quarterback Ryan Radke led the Tomcats over
the Gators at Frank B. Fuhrer Field in Meadville, Pa.,
last season. The left-handed quarterback ran for 89
yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns
on the ground. He also completed 16 passes for
159 yards. Four of Radke’s passes were to Ron
Howard (41 yards). Both Radke and Howard went
on to be named All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference
(PAC) Honorable Mention selections in 2014.
Radke racked up 2,946 yards of total offense (2,042
passing, 904 rushing), the most in a single season
in Thiel history. His passing and rushing totals on
the year were the fourth most in a single season
in the history of the program. He also threw 19
touchdowns last season, second only to Darrell
Satterfield’s 25 touchdown passes in 2005.
In addition to Radke and Howard, Thiel also returns
two other 2014 All-PAC Honorable Mention selections this season in defensive lineman Reily Shane
and cornerback Chris Jones. Shane ranked fifth in
the PAC in tackles for loss (16) and tied for sixth in
sacks (6) last season. Jones made 32 tackles a season
ago. He also intercepted two passes and broke up
five passes.

About the Presidents’
Athletic Conference
The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC), formally
organized in 1955 by Western Reserve University,
John Carroll University, Case Institute of Technology,
and Wayne State University, will be celebrating its 60th
anniversary throughout the 2014-15 academic year.
The PAC and its membership continue its original,
defining mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics
and the pursuit of academic excellence.
Currently comprised of 10 select private institutions
– Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva
College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College,
Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington
& Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and
Westminster College – the PAC remains a unique
organization in this day of high pressure intercollegiate
athletics. With academics at the center of each
member’s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle
that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not
an entity in itself.
The PAC expanded its membership to seven members
in 2005 with the addition of Thomas More, formerly a
NCAA Division III independent. Saint Vincent, a former
NAIA member, joined the conference in 2006 as it
began its reclassification to NCAA Division III status.
Another former NAIA member, Geneva, became the
conference’s ninth member and began league play in
2007 as it started its NCAA Division III reclassification. Chatham became the league’s 10th member, also
in 2007.
In 2012, the PAC Presidents’ Council voted to add
Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve
University as affiliate members in the sport of football
beginning with the 2014 season.
The PAC crowns league champions and awards allconference honors in its 21 championship sports. Head
coaches determine all-PAC squads for all team sports,
while in individual sports, such as cross country and
tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances
at the conference championships.
In addition to its 21 sponsored championship sports,
the PAC partnered with the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference (HCAC) to create the singlesport Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences (ORLC &
ORWLC) in 2014, with both kicking off league schedules during the spring of 2015.
The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’s AllSports Trophies to the schools which perform best
across the board in PAC competition.
