MASTER PLAN OF THE SKIARENA ANDERMATT-SEDRUN
It's started already. We are developing and modernising the AndermattNätschen and Sedrun-Oberalp ski areas. The first new ski lifts and
snow-manufacturing systems will be ready for the 2015/16 Winter season.

LAUNCH OF THE SKIARENA ANDERMATT-SEDRUN
In May 2014 the Federal Office for Transport (FOT) authorised the application of
the Andermatt-Sedrun Sport Consortium
(AG) for its ski infrastructure construction
project. The project to bring together the
two skiing regions embraces the construction of 14 transportation facilities, of which
10 (4 new, 5 replacement, 1 renovation) are
PAGE 08
in the first phase and 4 (3 new, 1 replacement) in the second phase. Snow-manufacturing facilities, ski runs and restaurants
will be developed at the same time.
Follow the current news on the project
to join the two skiing regions into
Andermatt-Sedrun at: www.skiarena.ch
CONSTRUCTION START CONFIRMED FOR SUMMER 2015
The first construction authorisations
were confirmed in Spring 2015 and
the ground was broken for the first
six-person chairlift with hoods on the
Gurschen on 10th July 2015. It is scheduled to be in service for the 2015/16
Winter season. Approval has also been
granted for a further chairlift on the
Oberalp Pass as well as the snow making
systems on the Gurschen-Andermatt
descent to the valley and the TiarmsCalmut-Oberalp Pass. If there are no objections and the construction is possible
in the time, the facilities and infrastructure will begin operation for the 2015/16
Winter season.

MY SKI RUNS
ANDERMATT-GEMSSTOCK
PARADISE FOR FREERIDERS AND
DOWNHILL SPECIALISTS
For freeriders and fans of steep slopes, Gemsstock (2961 m) above
Andermatt is prime terrain. It offers excellent, snow-sure conditions
right into Spring and its panoramic view takes winter sports’ lovers
breath away.
ADRENALINE RUSH
FOR FREERIDERS
The Gotthard region, a superb off-piste
area, has been an insider’s tip among
freeriders for years. Gemsstock in particular is sure to give you an adrenaline
rush with its countless couloirs and
cliffs, classic alpine terrain and slopes
with an elevation of up to 1500 m.
AVALANCHE
TRAINING CENTRE
On the Gemstock you will find one of
the ten Avalanche Training Centres
(ATC) in Switzerland. Here you can
learn how to find people who have been
buried by snow and how to handle yourself in avalanche conditions. The ATC is
ideally suited for groups, school parties
or individuals, for professional courses
or for examinations. You can reach the
ATC on the Gurschenalp (2212 m) not
only by ski but also using snowshoes.
You can learn how to use your own
personal avalanche safety equipment
correctly for free and without preparation time at the ATC.
PAGE 10
In realistic avalanche conditions,
16 controlled transmitters are buried
to enable you to practise searching
for buried people.
BERNHARD-RUSSI-RUN
“The Glacier slope on Gemsstock is my
favourite and one of the finest downhills in
the Alps,” says skiing legend Bernhard
Russi about his home run. The RussiRun leads you from the mountain peak
down to the Gurschenalp, a drop of
950 metres, and is not for faint hearted!

MY SKI RUNS
ANDERMATT-NÄTSCHEN – THE SUN
TERRACE FOR YOUNG AND OLD
REALP – PERFECT IF YOU’RE (STILL)
UNSTEADY ON YOUR FEET
Families love their winter in the Nätschen ski area for its variety and its
two chair lifts and two ski lifts.
The ski area in Realp is small and manageable. Beginners will find a
Children's Fun Park with animal figures and a small practice course for
learning through play.
The ski runs – with varying grades of difficulty – are perfectly groomed, just like
everywhere in Andermatt and Sedrun.
Those who prefer higher altitudes can
take the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn train
to the mid-station or travel on the nostalgic chairlift up to Nätschen. Once arrived
easygoing ski slopes and extended walks
start, as does the flying toboggan run
down to Andermatt. For those who want
to take it easy, the sun and an incredible
view that cover the horizon extending to
the Furka Pass are there to be enjoyed.
Day passes can be bought and toboggans
hired directly at the Nätschen valley
station.
The ski area is the ideal place to try your
hand (and feet) on your own if you are
new to winter sports or have become
a little rusty. Realp is also great for
parents who plan to help their children
practice their skills.
The rearmost village in the Ursern
Valley offers the perfect terrain for those
not yet ready to tackle a larger ski area.
Free parking is available on the closed
Furka Pass road.

SEDRUN-OBERALP
ENJOY FLYING HIGH
The Sedrun-Oberalp ski area is ideal for those who want to plan
their own winter. There are perfect runs here for beginners and
advanced skiers alike. The lifts connect the Oberalp Pass with the
slopes of Dieni via Val Val.
If you're starting your day on the
Oberalp Pass (2044 m), you first take
the MGBahn train from Andermatt to
Oberalp, the lift up to Calmut at 2350 m
above sea level, ski down into Val Val
and take the chairlift from there up to
Cuolm Val (2215 m).
From the other side, a chairlift takes you
from Dieni (1500 m) to Milez (1900 m)
first. From there you ski down to Mulinatsch from where a modern six-seater
chairlift takes you up to Cuolm Val.
Then you have to decide: is it back to
Dieni or on towards Oberalp?
FUN- AND CROSSPARK
TEGIA GRONDA
Freestylers love the park at the Tegia
Gronda lift. Situated between 2000 and
2300 m it is perfectly placed, sunny, and
offers a spectacular view out over the
Tujetsch Valley. Well shaped elements,
small and large kickers, boxes and rails
all challenge the riders.
After a racy decent and recovery on the
ski lift the next run beckons. Alongside
sporting challenges, the park also offers
a cool lounge for chilling, a big sofa and
a sound system with iPod connections.
For the 2015/16 winter season the Tegia
Gonda Park will be even bigger!
More kickers and additional rails await
all freestylers in the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun.
PAGE 14
800 M SKI CROSS AND
BOARDERCROSS COURSE
Ski cross and Boardercross fans can
have their own winter fun in Sedrun's
Crosspark. The course is amazing, with
rollers, tables, jumps and five steep
turns to challenge skiers and boarders.
A whole lot of fun!
You can reserve a boardercross course
online for your own challenging downhill races. School races, courses, training sessions and events are possible.

SEDRUN-VALTGEVA
FUN FOR EVERYONE
Snowpark Valtgeva, near the train station in Sedrun, is the ideal
destination for families, with an easy-to-manage ski run.
PAGE 16
Sedrun-Valtgeva is perfect for finding
your feet, be it on skis, snowboard
or Telemark skis. The hub of Valtgeva
is the “Beginners Garden” of the
Snowsports School. The brave can try
out the tubing run and use the 143 m
long magic carpet that also takes skiers
and snowboarders back to the top. There
are two ski lifts for the more advanced
to use.

TOBOGGANING
FLYING DOWNHILL RUN
SNOWTUBING
A very special treat is the experience of being on snow on two runners.
There are three possibilities to enjoy tobogganing in the Andermatt
Holiday Region and in Sedrun: on the Nätschen, in Dieni and on the
Furka Pass.
LENGTH 0.2 KM
VALTGEVA
NÄTSCHEN–ANDERMATT
TIEFENBACH – REALP
LENGTH 5.5 KM
LENGTH 7.0 KM
The run on Oberalp Pass road is
everyone's winter fun, big or small.
Children will love taking the plunge on
two runners down the sunny slope to
Andermatt.
There's also a spot of tobogganing to
be done on Furka Pass road. The slope
between Tiefenbach and Realp is steeper
than the Nätschen run, however it takes
two hours to make the climb on foot.
The breathtakingly fast downhill run is
worth it. A word of caution: the toboggan run is also a winter walking trail.
Equipment can be hired at the Nätschen
valley station or at the Andermatt train
station.
MILEZ – RUERAS
LENGTH 3.5 KM
You can also toboggan on the other
side of the Oberalp Pass: from Milez
to Rueras. The route is separate from
the ski run and is suitable for families.
The Dieni-Milez chairlift operates from
9.00 a.m. to 4.45 p.m.. You can hire
toboggans at the valley station. Your
safety is important to us, so please wear
your helmet when tobogganing.
Tip: Make it easy on yourself this
winter. Instead of hauling up your own
toboggan, you can hire one at the Hotel
Tiefenbach.
So, off you go! Into your tyres. All set
for great fun, for young and old alike.

Snowtubing is a thrilling winter activity
for all those who love speed and don't
mind snow spray. Nestled in a soft tyre
you hurtle down the 200 m run and then
a 143 m long magic carpet takes you
back to the top. The snow tubing run is
one of the main attractions in the Valtgeva ski area, near Sedrun train station.

MY OFF-PISTE WINTER
WINTER WALKS IN ANDERMATT
There are lots of different kinds of winter: grandparents and Mum love a
leisurely walk. Dad and godfather enjoy skiing while the kids can’t
get enough of tobogganing. The SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun has all
kinds of winter! Our winter walking routes are groomed daily and
marked by pink signs or marking poles.
A
NÄTSCHEN
DURATION CA. 1½ HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This easy winter walking route goes
from Andermatt to Nätschen. The
wide route follows the Oberalp Pass
road that is rarely steep, rather climbs
gently, curve after curve, all the time
delighted by the views out over the roofs
of the village, down the long drawn
out valley of Ursern to the peaks of the
Gotthard-Furka Massif. At the halfway point, a bar with deckchairs invites
you to take a well-earned break. If you
would rather not walk up, you can take
the MGBahn train or the chairlift to
reach Nätschen and walk home from
there.
B
STÖCKLI CIRCUIT
DURATION CA. 45 MINUTES
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
The Stöckli winter walking path reveals
an incomparable panoramic view. On
the south facing slope above Andermatt enjoy the sunshine at, amongst
other places, the top of the chairlift.
The deckchairs at the Ski Bar invite
you for a power nap – but don't forPAGE 38
got the suncream! The circular route
begins on the Gütsch. You can start
your walk by taking the two chairlifts,
Andermatt-Nätschen and NätschenGütsch. The MGBahn trains travels to
Nätschen, too.
C
VALLEY FLOOR CIRCUIT
(TALBODEN)
DURATION CA. 1 HOUR
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This route is best for contemplative
promenades. It is flat, short and sunny.
From the railway station follow the
signs to the cross-country tracks (Loipe).
At the entrance to the Loipe (Bäzberg)
the walking path is well marked (pink
poles) and separate from the cross-country tracks. You walk through wide open
spaces, the Golf Course in summer,
and shortly before Hospental turn back,
following the path along the Reuss river
embankment to Andermatt.
D URSERN VALLEY
DURATION CA. 3 HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
On this easy winter walking path you
can explore the Ursern Valley in its entire
length. Initially you follow the Valley
Floor (Talboden) Circuit. At the Hospental junction you turn towards Hospental
and on to Realp. The return route follows
the same path. In Hospental or in Realp
you have the option to take the train back
to Andermatt. You could also take a
break in one of the restaurants on route.
E
TIEFENBACH
DURATION CA. 3 HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM
The winter walking path climbs up from
Realp along the Furka Pass road, rising
some 500 m to Tiefenbach. At the Hotel
Tiefenbach (2106 m) reward yourself
with a break. After hunger and thirst
have been sated, the stunning Ursern
scenery is there to “feed the eyes”. For
those who do not wish to walk further,
you can take a toboggan on the twisting
road back down.
F
THE LAKE OF ARNI
DURATION CA. 30 MINUTES
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
The trail at the Lake of Arni offers a
breathtaking white mountain scenery.
The frozen alpine lake surrounded
by snow covered forests makes the
mountain lover's heart beat faster. The
30-minute winter walking path can be
varied or extended at wish.

WINTER WALKS IN THE REGION
SEDRUN-TUJETSCH
G MILEZ–TSCHAMUT–
DIENI
DURATION CA. 2 HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This sunny valley floor walk begins with
a wintery ride on the Dieni-Milez chairlift. Enjoy good coffee and freshly baked
cakes in the Milez Mountain Restaurant
before starting the walk along the wide,
well-prepared path in a westerly direction
past the alpine huts. Thereafter the way
takes you gently down to Tschamut. The
path then follows the seldom-used Oberalp Pass road back to Dieni.
H
MILEZ–DIENI
DURATION CA. 1 HOUR
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This path begins at the Milez middlestation and can be combined with the
Milez-Tschmut-Dieni route. You follow
the signs alongside the toboggan track
and the path is steep at times but well secured. After the railway underpass you
turn right in the direction of Dieni.
I
SEDRUN-RUERAS
VALLEY CIRCUIT
DURATION CA. 1½ HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This gentle circuit can be started in the
village of Sedrun. The groomed winter
walking path starts shortly after the last
houses in Camischolas Sura and goes to
PAGE 40
the railway station at Rueras. From there
you walk a short way on the main road
before taking the next right. After the village of Rueras the way drops down to the
valley floor and follows the Rhine River
back to Sedrun. At the height of Winter,
the valley floor stretch only receives sunshine in the afternoon.
J
VIEWPOINT CUNGIERI
DURATION CA. 2½ HOURS
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This winter walking route climbs from
Sedrun up to Cungieri at 1817 m. This
easy route along the sunny slope offers
a wonderful view out into the Tujetsch
Valley. On the way benches are placed,
from which the stunning countryside can
be enjoyed.
K
PARDATSCH
NEAR RUERAS
DURATION CA. 1 HOUR
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This short and sunny winter walking
route above the village of Rueras is ideal
for all those who want to spend some
time in the fresh air. The prepared path
starts at the public car park or at the
railway station. Coming back you follow
the same route to the village itself.
BATHING & WELLNESS
AT THE SOURCE OF THE RHINE
From the ski slope into the pool: what is more inviting after sunny hours
in the fresh air and powder snow than to plunge, happy and tired, into
the warmth.
For Winter enthusiasts the Bogn
Sedrun, the bath at the source of the
Rhine, is a must! The swimming pool
complex includes a 25 m pool to meet
the needs of serious swimmers as well
as a waterfall, millstream, wild-water
channel and hydro massage zone. In the
modern wellness zone, Roman steam
baths and saunas invite you to a gentle
kind of après-ski.

CLASSIC GLIDE OR DYNAMIC
SKATE – WE HELP YOU DEVELOP
YOUR CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING STYLE
Cross-country skiing is on trend. Out in the sunshine and fresh air,
you can train your whole body and keep fit during the winter months.
The railway ensures that you can reach the cross-country tracks in
Sedrun and Andermatt as well as those in Obergoms in the shortest
possible time.
URSERN VALLEY
OBERGOMS
28 KM CROSS-COUNTRY RUN
80 KM CROSS-COUNTRY RUN
The cross-country tracks run through
the valley from Andermatt via Hospental to Realp. They are groomed for both
classic and skating techniques. For those
who feel unable to cover this distance
there are circular routes laid out around
Andermatt and Realp. In Realp you can
also ski under the stars. The 3 km long
night track is lit on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Twelve typical Valais villages pepper the
trail in Goms from Oberwald to Niederwald. The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn
train stops in almost all of these villages.
Cross-country skiers and walkers can
hop on and hop off at any point, so you
can plan your trip, just as you wish. This
is what makes the trail in Obergoms so
appealing. It's no wonder that everyone
enjoys having their own kind of winter
here.
Changing facilities, toilets and showers
are available at the restaurant Zum
Dörfli in Zumdorf and at the Biathlon
Centre in Realp as well as in Andermatt
at the loipe access Bäzberg.

MY OFF-PISTE WINTER
SNOWSHOEING IN ANDERMATT
Walk apart from the ski pistes and winter walking trails through
snow-covered countryside and experience undisturbed powder snow
beneath your feet. In the Andermatt Holiday Region and Region of
Sedrun there are over 100 km of marked snowshoe trails.
1 ANDERMATT
DISTANCE 3.0 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
This attractive circular route begins by
the Andermatt village bridge and travels
towards the Unteralp Valley by way
of Mettlen. The turning point is at the
highest point of the tour. Do not miss
the opportunity to photograph the impressive ice-falls at the Gurschenbach.
On your return journey you pass the
Brunnen Rifle Club. From here there is
a wonderful view out over the valley: to
the south you can see Hospental and to
the north, the Schöllenen Gorge. The
way home brings you by the Mariahilf
Chapel, built in 1735/36.
2 STÖCKLI
DISTANCE 5.5 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM
This snowshoe trail begins at the Stöckli
Bar on the Gütsch and offers fantastic
views of the mountains. Look across to
the peaks of the Pazolastock, Rossbodenstock and the Badus, the Gemsstock and the Gurschenalp, all the way
along the Ursern Valley to the Furka
massif.
PAGE 44
You reach the Gütsch using the two Andermatt-Nätschen and Nätschen-Gütsch
chairlifts. The MGBahn train also runs
to Nätschen. For a perfect winter experience, you are asked to remain on the
marked snowshoe trails and not stray on
to the prepared ski slopes.
3 HOSPENTAL
4 WINTERHORN
DISTANCE 6.8 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM
DISTANCE 7.8 OR 10.1 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM/DIFFICULT
Start from the barrier across the Gotthard Pass road at Hospental. Initially
the path follows the Pass road. Shortly
after the tunnel you bear away to the
right, climbing a steep ramp towards
the former ski slopes. Up on the higher
part of the trail a spectacular panorama
awaits you, from the Kastelhorn across
to the valleys of the Gotthard region.
Here the trail makes a loop that, in the
lower part, uses the same path as on
ascending.
The snowshoe route from Realp to the
Albert-Heim-Hütte (mountain refuge)
offers plenty of variety. In good visibility you can see far out over the Ursern
Valley to the Bünder Mountains. And
right beside you is the Galenstock peak.
For those who wish to reduce the route,
a short cut at “Tätsch” leads over to
Tiefenbach.
5 REALP
DISTANCE 6.2 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
DISTANCE 2.5 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
The snowshoe trail begins by the
Restaurant Central in Hospental. It
is laid out as a circular route with a
195 m height difference to climb. The
Gotthard scenery has its very own attraction in winter. Whereas in summer
the Pass traffic rolls north and south,
during winter there is not a single car to
be seen. Do listen carefully: a mystical
silence fills the snow covered mountain
world.
This short but variable snowshoe trail
leads towards the “Goldfinger bend”
from the James Bond film “Goldfinger”
(1964). The trail starts and ends on the
Furka Pass road in Realp. It runs as a
circuit to the Geren Bridge then on the
opposite side of the Furkareuss River
back to its starting point. Shortly after
the first ascent in “Biel” you can see
the bend in the road where Goldfinger,
alias Gert Fröbe, made a short stop to
purchase fruit.

On the return journey you can choose
between a variety of routes.
8 ARNISEE
DISTANCE 3.5 OR 5.1 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
In winter there are two marked trails
set out on the snow covered, sunny
terrace of Arni which lead you through
the beautiful countryside. Starting

9 PEAK TOUR
PIZ CAVRADI
DISTANCE 14.0 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM/DIFFICULT
This snowshoe trail can be either started
at the village of Tschamut, the first
village on the Rhine, or on the Oberalp
Pass. Both routes lead up to the barns on
the Milez Alp at the foot of the Maighels
Valley. From here the trail is marked
and leads to the Maighels Refuge, which
is also open in winter.
On the trail you will come across flat
as well as step sections. To experience a
true mountain peak you have to climb
from the Maighels Refuge for further
300 m in height to the large cairn on the
Piz Cavradi. Return by the same route.
11 UAUL CAVORGIA
DISTANCE 8.6 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL EASY
The snowshoe trail Uaul Cavorgia
begins in the village of Surrein. From
there you follow the easy-to-see road
towards Val Nalps. At the next turn-off
you cut through the Wildlife Protection
Zone of Uaul Cavorgia. Here the signs
will point you to the village of Cavorgia,
cutting directly through the woods.
Snowshoeing through the open countryside to the village is a pleasure for young
and old! In Cavorgia you can pack your
snowshoes in your rucksack and walk
back to Surrein.
12 SURREIN–CAVORGIA–

10 TGOM–STAVEL SISUM
DISTANCE 5.6 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM
Enjoy a sporting day on the snowshoe
trails, from the attractive Walser village
of Surrein up to the lookout point at
Tgom. The trail continues along the
wide ridge to Stavel Sisum at 2387 m,
where you can pause at the small alpine
hut. If it has recently snowed and the
trail has not been used before the tour
can be quite arduous.
PAGE 46
DISTANCE 7.2 KM
DIFFICULTY LEVEL MEDIUM
From Surrein you walk to the village
of Cavorgia on a little used road. This
snowshoe trail starts in the lower half of
the village and leads along a snow-covered forest road through a Wildlife
Protection Zone. The lowest point of
the trail is reached at the bridge over the
Rhine; thereafter it climbs steeply. The
MGBahn station awaits you in Mompé
Tujetsch.
