We all want to belong; to be a part of and to be accepted. We belong to our natural family. Baptism celebrates our belonging to a larger family. Our larger family believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is a family in which caring about each other and the world takes place in a special way. St. Timothy’s joyfully welcomes those children who celebrated Baptism in August: Logan James Pevzner Jayden Gavin Rahnama Leonardo Gevan Starling Lucas Charles Haupert Sullivan Aiyana Milan Weber You are cordially invited The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is not a class or series of programs, but rather, it’s a process that allows the participants the opportunity to explore the Catholic faith gradually through sharing, formal teaching, liturgical celebrations, prayer and fellowship. Those interested in learning more about Jesus Christ and the teaching of His church, without any pressure or commitment, are encouraged to seek answers. Find out why Catholics believe Christ is the answer to their problems, and see how He can help you. Therefore, if you are thinking about becoming Catholic OR if you are an adult Catholic who desires to celebrate Confirmation and/or First Eucharist, please fill out this card and drop it in the collection basket. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the Lord, your God, heeding his voice, and holding fast to him….” Dt. 30: 19-20. A no-brainer. Of course we choose life rather than death, a blessing rather than a curse. What’s the problem? The problem today is, when we remember the events of September 11, 2001, and when our senses are bombarded again by those horrific images, we may find ourselves becoming full of fear, anger, hatred and despair all over again, and we can indeed resign ourselves to death as a choice. September 11, 2001 was a milestone in the history of what Pope John Paul called the culture of death, a hate crime of such incredible magnitude that it generated, and continues to generate, seemingly endless reprisals of violence in Central Asia, in the Middle East and throughout the world. The number of innocent civilians murdered in New York City has been exceeded by the number of innocent civilians killed or maimed in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last ten years. And we as a nation seem to be hated more than ever. So have the haters won? Has the culture of death triumphed over the Sermon on the Mount? What good does it do for a few of us to “choose life” in the face of such monumental evil? Only God knows the answer, but our Christian faith and every ancient wisdom tradition tells us that we cannot have peace in the world unless we have peace within ourselves. So we can start by acknowledging and asking forgiveness for the times we have treated others violently by our words or actions, and by committing ourselves to honor life in all its forms, to recognize the common humanity in all persons regardless of their beliefs and actions, and to treat others with the respect each child of God deserves. (by Bill Kramer, Peace and Justice Commission) Respect Life / Peace and Justice This fall we are forming a new Respect Life/Peace and Justice group. Our mission is to inspire awareness, through prayer, study and action, of the sacredness of human life and the principles of peace and social justice set forth in the Gospels and in the moral teaching of the Catholic Church. These principles include the following: • Human Dignity. Every human being is created in the image and likeness of God and redeemed by Jesus Christ, and therefore is worthy of respect as a member of the human family. • Respect for Human Life. Every person, from the moment of conception to natural death, has inherent dignity and a right to life consistent with that dignity. • Special Protection for the Poor and Vulnerable. The Gospels and the traditions of the Church instruct us to put the needs of the poor and marginalized first. • Solidarity. We are all brothers and sisters in one human family. • Equality. Despite their individual differences, all persons have equal fundamental rights as children of God. • Nonviolence. We are called by Jesus to be peacemakers, to rid our hearts of hatred, to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. We can make a difference. We invite you to join us. Watch for our table at the Ministry Faire. For more information, or to join the group, kindly contact Larry and Nan Ditto at 305-3566 or Bill Kramer at 218-5756. Bereavement Support Group: Bereavement and major life losses create the most challenging and painful passages in our lives. On Monday, October 3rd, we will begin a ten-week teaching and support group for those who have suffered the death of a loved one. The group will meet from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday evenings in the Fireside Room. For information or to sign up, please contact Terri Loquercio at 309-6055 or Sally Hotchkiss at 249-4096. Food Pantry Needs: Thank you so much for your ongoing support. We are extremely low in all areas, including pasta sauce and pasta, peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, dried rice and pinto beans. All donations are gratefully received. You may bring items to the cart in front of the church before the Masses on Saturday and Sunday or to the Parish Office during the week. For questions, please call Sally at 249-4096.
