A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPTER’S CHAIR
As my year as Chair of the Central Florida Chapter is coming to an end, I would to thank each and every Board
member, Sponsor, Committee Chair and Chapter Member that has contributed their time and efforts to making
this another successful year. Our Chapter continues to lead the way in organizing and hosting events such as:
FICPA Student Field Day, Play for Charity Day and our annual Putt-Putt Fundraiser, which raises thousands of
dollars each year for UCF Students to continue their accounting educations. I recently had the honor of
presenting scholarships to Jamie Manica and Doug Greenwald, two very accomplished and deserving students, at
the UCF Dixon School of Accounting Spring Banquet. These events draw the community, students and accounting
professionals together for a variety of wonderful causes and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow. All
of these events would not be possible without the continued support of everyone involved, including our Annual
Sponsor- USA Payroll, who has committed their time and resources to helping the Central Florida Chapter
continue to grow and achieve our goals.
This year, our membership has grown by 75 members, to a total of 1,992, including 234 student members. July
1st represents the start of a new fiscal year and a great time to meet your new Chapter Board and become
involved in all of the activities, CPE, and networking opportunities that are available to our members. I hope to
see our Chapter continue to grow and have our members take advantage of all of the great benefits that the
Central Florida Chapter and the FIPCA provide. I once again thank you for the opportunity to serve as Chair and
look forward to continuing on the Central Florida Chapter Board as Past-Chair.

FINANCIAL LITERACY TASKFORCE - UPDATE
It has been an exciting year for financial literacy. We see some moves on the horizon to help promote
awareness of how important it is to learn financial literacy at an early age. Two big events this year include:

An April 8, 2014 USA Today article entitled, “Financial Literacy Education has Lasting Impact” . It
states that the effects of financial literacy education in high school continue to influence
attitudes and behaviors toward money management for students well after graduation,
according to a newly released study of 65,000 students.

Seminole County Public Schools are pushing to make financial literacy a required course for
graduation. Think of the impact this will have on those students.
Through our efforts in Orange and Seminole County public schools, we have grown to reach some new
students. We have presented the Elevate Programs to Evans and Oak Ridge High Schools, and just recently
to the Tips for Success after-school program at Jones and Evans High Schools. These contacts were
generated from our successful presentations at various area high schools throughout the school year.
Our efforts are helping to provide the financial education our students need to be successful in handling
their financial affairs throughout adulthood. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please feel
free to contact me.

THIRD ANNUAL PUTT-PUTT TOURNAMENT
On April 26, 2014, the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Institute of CPAs hosted the Third Annual Putt-Putt Golf
Fundraising Tournament at the Congo River Miniature Golf Center on East Colonial in Orlando. The event was a big
success, thanks to a large number of sponsors and the 35 participants that came out to play.
This event offered a great opportunity to bring the whole family for a day of fun and support local Accounting
students. The funds raised from this tournament will be awarded to University of Central students in the coming 2014
and 2015 fall and spring semesters. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped to make this event possible. We
hope to see you again next year!
