Dear Committee,
I respectfully submit this bid for the 2012 USAPL Women’s National Powerlfting
Championships. I will bring original copies to the committee meeting in Cleveland.
LOCATION –
The location city is Boise, Idaho. Boise, the capital of Idaho, is a city of just over
205,000 in population surrounded by a valley population of approximately 400,000 more
residents. Boise’s elevation is 2800 feet and is considered a high desert area surrounded
by mountains. During the time frame of the championships the usual temperature ranges
from low 40s in the evening to the mid 70s during the day.
Boise is served by air by the following airlines: Delta, Horizon, Alaska, United,
Skywest, Frontier and Southwest with multiple daily arrivals and departures by the major
airlines to and from the closest regional hubs of Salt Lake City, Seattle and Denver.
VENUE –
The identified venue is The Grove Hotel in downtown Boise. The Grove Hotel is right in
the heart of downtown and is surrounded by restaurants, shopping and a wide variety of
entertainment. The Grove Hotel has free shuttle service from the Boise airport 4 miles
away.
The Grove Hotel has 250 guest rooms and a guaranteed a room rate of $99.00 for all
guests associated with this event and will host the competition in their Grand Ballroom.
The Ballroom will accommodate up to 650 patrons, but will be configured to hold
approximately 400 with attached open space for vendors and a separate warm up area.
Attached rooms will be utilized for Doping Control, Equipment check and changing areas
for lifters. A meeting room will be available for the committee meeting.
EQUIPMENT –
All competition equipment, racks, bars and weights will be USAPL/IPF approved. Racks
will be ER Equipment, competition bar and weights have yet to be determined.
This event is expected to be a single platform, two day event. Warm up room will be
approximately 1700 square feet and will be populated with 4 warm up platforms with
similar racks, bars and weights being used on the competition platform. Lifters will have
direct access to the lifting platform from the warm up area.
It is anticipated that the scoring will be accomplished through a contract with Joe &
Kathy Marksteiner utilizing their scoring software. Attempt tracking will be visible in
the competition and warm up areas.
Audio/Visual equipment will be contracted and installed to ensure the best experience for
the lifters and audience.
STAFF –
The promotional staff has been involved with powerlifting as lifters, referees and
promoters since the mid 1980s. We have directed state and regional level competitions
of up to over 100 lifters and requiring multiple platforms during that time.
I have been coaching powerlifting in the Boise area since 2003 and have attended the
High School National Championships every year since that time. I have been in
attendance at Women’s and Men’s and tested for my National referee status in May of
2009.
The opportunity of hosting a national level powerlifting event in Boise has been
discussed since 2007. We chose to host the Women’s event to help promote the sport of
Powerlifting in Idaho and especially to grow the interest in women’s related strength
sports. Idaho is promoted as a healthy environment with a multitude of sporting activities
year round but powerlifting in Idaho is still a fledgling sport with minimal local coverage
or sponsorship. Boise is a very attractive travel destination and in the late spring will
make a wonderful backdrop for this championship.
USA Powerlifting has had minimal growth in the west and especially in the northwestern
United States. Promoting this event in Boise will allow the opportunity to extend and
involve lifters from the northwestern region of the country and expose a new audience to
the sport of powerlifting on a very impressive national scale.
This national event will be promoted locally via all media outlets and throughout the state
via web and local television and print media. We will make use of the USAPL site and
our own Team Idaho web site. The 2012 Women’s National Powerlifting
Championships will have an accessible web site up and running no later than April 2011.
Initial identified Idaho sponsors are:
Bodybuilding.com
Optimum Nutrition
Power Bar
Idaho Ink Spot
Futures Corporation
I believe Boise to be the greatest location for the 2012 USAPL Women’s National
Powerlifting Championships.
Sincerely,
Steve Rayborn
Coach, Team Idaho Powerlifting &
USA Sub-Junior Team
