The Shark Fund Annual Report Dear MHS Families and Friends,
Friday night football - the MHS Sharks score the winning touchdown. Proud parents and friends watch
magnificent performances from choirs, musicians and actors in the MHS auditorium. Writers and
artists put the finishing touches on The Current and Inkblot. Students in Math, Language Arts, History
and Science classrooms enjoy the latest technologies. All this and more are made possible by generous
contributions to The Shark Fund.

The outline of all grants appears on the facing page. Not surprisingly, given the economic downturn,
our income and, consequently, our grants to MHS, were lower last year than in previous years. By comparison, in the ‘07/’08 school year, The Shark Fund made $518,874 in grants to school programs. With
your help, The Shark Fund expects to reverse this trend and reach even higher goals.
Our school faces significant financial challenges in the years ahead because of budget shortfalls at the
state level. Per pupil funding has been reduced. For the Shark Fund to meet its goals, we must continue
to increase the percentage of families who take part in MHS’ success. We ask every family who did not
contribute last year to please give this year and experience the pleasure of knowing that you helped
MHS become the best school it can be. And to the 423 contributors listed in this report who generously
donated last year, please consider continuing, if not increasing, your contribution for the year to come.
The vital programs listed on the facing page require up-front funding. We depend on our fall direct
donation drive for the majority of our budget. If these programs are to continue, we need to know now
that the funds will be there. Please send your donation in the enclosed return envelope or visit our
website at www.thesharkfund.org and make a donation online. Your donations to The Shark Fund have
helped and continue to help make Malibu High School one of the finest public schools in the nation.
