Hawk Ridge Putterings Volume 13, Issue 12 December 2014 Resident Spotlight Upcoming Events Flynn’s Corner Once again the year is coming to an end and we prepare for the holiday season. It has been an eventful 2014 and we have continued to welcome many new home owners to the community! As we continue to expand, we will need to be patient and work together through the growing pains, but I am confident a fabulous 2015 awaits all of us. As the days roll by, it is easy to get bogged down in the daily things that bother us and forget how truly blessed we all are.....there are many who are less fortunate, so please consider giving to local food pantries, toys for tots, or other great community out-reach programs! I wish you all continued health and happiness for 2015! When the call went out from the Progressive Dinner Party (PDP) chairmen that hosts were greatly needed, Gordon Wilkinson was drafted and answered the call. When he spoke with a chairperson he explained that he was an actuarial scientist by education and experience, not a person used to cooking and entertaining at home at an elegant dinner party. But Gordon, dedicated to HHR, agreed to serve; since the party was a grand success, he now says he actually enjoyed doing it. We can look forward to seeing Gordon’s name on the roster of future PDP hosts/hostesses. Gordon moved to HHR in 2005 where he enjoys tennis, ping pong, bike rides, cooking class, Dapper Dans, Hawk Ridge Boys, and the many other activities. One of his hobbies, internet research, is focused on archeological digs, especially in Egypt. His other hobbies include harmonic playing, investments, and caring for antique cars He still owns his first car, a 1933 Plymouth which he bought two months after his 16th birthday. He also owns a 1986 Chevrolet Corvette. Both cars are housed in garages on the HHR campus. Gordon loves old cars that are in good condition, so take care of yours-Gordon may want it someday. In 2006, Gordon retired after 40 years in the employee benefits industry. Initially, his responsibilities were as a Field Manager for a major insurance company in Columbus, Ohio. Later he was transferred to St Louis as a Regional Field Manager where he had responsibility for all areas of sales and services in a six state region. In 1993, Gordon became Group Field Vice President, Executive Accounts for a large local carrier; he had direct responsibility for the management of large executive accounts, including Anheuser-Busch, McDonnell Douglas, and CPI Corp (now you know why a small dinner party wasn’t a problem, even if he couldn’t cook). Gordon earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from the University of Nebraska (UN). His graduate work was in actuarial science and statistics also at UN. In addition to various industry course certificates, he holds a Chartered Underwriter (CLU) professional designation. He is a member of the National Life Underwriters Association and National Health Underwriters Association. A son lives in O’Fallon and a daughter lives In Millard, NE. He has 6 grandchildren. He loves HHR because of all the activities offered and of course all the wonderful people here. Thanks to all HHR residents for your generous donations of food on Saturday, November 15th to the 2014 Scouting for Food Campaign. Overall in the Greater Saint Louis/Saint Charles Area over 1.8 million cans were collected by Scouts. In spite of a frigid Saturday morning eleven Scouts and five adult leaders collected 1260 cans in our community. The adult leaders took the Scouts to Steak n Shake before the pick-up and fortified them against the cold with all the pancakes they could eat. The cans collected here were delivered to the food pantry operated by the 1st Baptist church in Wentzville. This food pantry provides food for 300 families in the Wentzville area. The Scouts who collected the food are members of Troop 968 and are sponsored by the Morning Star Church at 1600 Feise Road in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri. Fun HHR Style! Thanks to the 2014 Progressive Dinner Committee and their salute to the 250th Birthday of St. Louis! A great time was had by all who attended and thanks to Bob Harrison’s DVD, a great deal of St. Louis history was provided.
