Many students from the class of 2015 distinguished themselves through exceptional academic and athletic performance, and extracurricular activities. Hundreds of students, listed on the following pages, were recognized with many special awards and scholarships. Those students pictured on the front page earned the highest academic honors. Recognition programs at all high schools include weighted grades for advanced placement courses. Eastern High School and Northern High School honored all students with a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 and above as summa cum laude graduates. Central High School honored a valedictorian and salutatorian for having the two highest GPAs and also recognized all students with a 4.0 and above. All GPAs are based on eight semesters. Pooja Agrawal (FHE) is the daughter of Raj and Sunita Agrawal. Pooja will pursue a degree in neuroscience at the University of Michigan LSA Honors College. Madalyn Alm (FHC) is the daughter of Charles and Marilee Alm. Madalyn will pursue a degree in biomedical engineering at Purdue University. Walter has participated in football, basketball, track and lacrosse. Walter served as captain of the football and basketball teams, and has received Honorable Mention All-Conference and All-Conference awards in basketball. As a first-year lacrosse player his senior year, Walter was a defensive player on FHN’s state semi-finalist team. Walter graduated from Forest Hills Northern with a 4.03 GPA and will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Rachel Fanning and David Lange were chosen as this year’s winners of the Coaches’ Award. This year’s recipients are Jillian Kolster and Grant Lardieri. David Lange played football for the Huskies for four years. On the offensive line for the varsity team, David served as captain and received AllConference honors his senior year. He also participated in track for two years and was named All-Conference in 2015. While at Northern, he participated in choir. David will play football at Davenport University in the fall where he will pursue a degree in healthcare management. Jillian Kolster was a varsity soccer player for four years and received All-Conference, All-District, All-Region, and All-State Honorable Mention honors. A two-year soccer captain, Jillian has also competed on the basketball and bowling teams. Jillian has participated in Northern’s choir for four years and was a member of the multi-cultural club. She will play soccer for Trinity International University where she will pursue a degree in physical therapy and training. Outstanding Female Athlete Claire Aleck is the outstanding female athlete for the class of 2015. An All-State tennis player, Claire played on the varsity team for four years, serving as captain for three. Graduating with a 3.9 GPA, Claire has accepted a scholarship to play tennis at the University of Toledo where she will study occupational or physical therapy. While at Northern, Claire also participated in basketball and served in student government and the National Honor Society. Claire also is the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award. 12 Rachel Fanning was on the varsity swim team for four years, played varsity basketball for two years, and was a varsity rower for four years. As a senior, Rachel was selected as team captain each season. Rachel is a member of the USRowing’s Junior National team, a three-time indoor regatta champion, and among the top 20 rowers in the country. Rachel graduated with a 4.06 GPA, and will attend the University of Michigan as a scholarship athlete on the rowing team. Grant Lardieri is headed to University of Massachusetts-Lowell where he will play lacrosse while majoring in chemistry and Spanish with a premed track. Grant served as FHN’s varsity lacrosse captain for two years and goalie for four years. Grant is currently the state record holder for career saves by a goalie. Grant was named All-State three times and was selected as All-American for the third consecutive year. Graduating with a 4.29 GPA, Grant was also a member of the National Honor Society. (continued on page 20) Bond Update Many exciting projects are happening this summer due to the passage of the $45 million bond issue in 2013. Building improvements are occurring primarily at the Fine Arts Center; the Community, Aquatic and Senior Citizens Center; and on the campus of Forest Hills Eastern high school and middle school. Additionally, some roof repair will occur at Central Middle School. Playgrounds also are receiving upgrades, to include, but not limited to, ADA compliance. In the area of technology, wireless network expansions will continue. Audio upgrades will also take place in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms. Currently, the GSRP is held at Collins Elementary; however, based on additional enrollment, another GSRP preschool may be available at Ada Elementary School.
